THE LAST QUEEN TRAILER
FOR ALGERIAN EPIC MOVIE
A few months ago I gave you a spotlight on all the upcoming French historical movies, and today I actually have a trailer for one of them: THE LAST QUEEN has just had a world premiere over at Venice Film Festival. Inspired by the legendary Princess Zaphira, wife of the last King of Algiers Salim Toumi, and his fight to defend her community from pirate Barbarossa, it stars Adila Bendimerad, who also wrote and directed the film with Damien Qunouri.
IT IS THE YEAR 1516
Algiers is a small Arabian-Berber republic,
suffocated by the Spaniards, who have had control of the harbour for six
years. King Salim Toumi makes an alliance with the pirate Barbarossa in
order to free the city. After their victory, Salim is assassinated in
his bathtub. Barbarossa becomes the new ruler of Algiers, and is
confronted with a rebellion. Both history an legend tell that Salim
Toumi, the last King of Algiers, had a wife named Zaphira, and that
Barbarossa desired her. Barbarossa is supposed to have said: «I will
take his palace, and I will mount his horse and his wife.»
It's amazing how even in the 1500s people fought for power and other people's spouses!
ReplyDeleteThen even more than today. But Barbarossa is kinda hot in the film so I do not see why is she complaining LOL
DeleteMmmmmount... his... wife??? Damn.
ReplyDeleteMount her and ride her he will... did not check if he really did in the end.
DeleteI will mount his horse and his wife. Yep, sounds like something a man would say. lol
ReplyDeleteWell, men are better riders than women, after all.
DeleteYou sure made me smile, Mary.
DeleteGlad I wasn't a man back then. I don't want to ride a horse or a woman, thanks LOL
ReplyDeleteI only ride dragons myself...
DeleteHahaha! I need to get on that plan.
DeleteYou just need some good weed, deary....
