THE SLAVE FURCY CASE
FIRST IMAGE FROM HISTORICAL MOVIE
First image is here of Romain Duris and Makita Samba in THE SLAVE FURCY CASE (L’Affaire de l’esclave Furcy) historical movie from Abd al Malik. Ana Girardot and Vincent Macaigne also star in the story of Furcy, a slave in a French colony who was able to achieve legal emancipation prior to the definitive abolition of slavery. The film should arrive next
year to the French cinemas.
INSPIRED BY A TRUE STORY
it is set on Reunion Island, 1817. Upon the
death of his mother, the slave Furcy discovers documents that could make
him a free man. With the help of an abolitionist prosecutor, he
launches into a legal battle for recognition of his rights. He then
fought twenty-seven years to obtain his freedom!
27 years fighting, idk if the taste of freedom would be bitter or sweet at that point. Relief of its end but man I’d harbor some strong anger having to fight that long!
ReplyDeleteEspecially as all slaves got their rights soon after him LOL poor sod. But French people really were nasty enslavers.
