THIS NEW SPANISH PERIOD SET TV DRAMA
is set in the 16th century, with the plot inspired by the communities of Beguines, communities of women who since the 13th century defended an alternative way of life independent of marriage and the Church. The Beguines dedicated themselves to contemplation, but also to action, through crafts, teaching or caring for the sick that provided benefits to society while allowing them to be self-sufficient. The beguines were spaces of relationship and freedom that, despite having popular support, were highly questioned by those in power.

We are watching a Spanish series Iron Reign now...
ReplyDeleteHaven't heard of it.
DeleteSpanish period drama has become a used chamber pot, tied to an ideology that is destroying Spanish society and culture and reeking of presentism. And I don't understand since they target the Church and religion in general, how can they make a series about a semi monastic society of lay celibate sisters. Why celebrate such lifestyle? How could you have romance in there?
ReplyDeleteWell, it is obviously a forbidden romance LOL It is interesting that it looks like Heirs to the Land as many of the same actors, sets and costumes repeat in this one. And as usual Spaniards always have an unlikeable female lead.
DeleteUnlikeable female lead, but we swoon over Yon, so we give the rest of the casting a pass.
ReplyDeleteI will watch it if I manage to find it, which I doubt I will.
