After French La Maison over at Peacock, Spanish Telemundo is bringing us new fashion world set glamurous series. As of May 19th, VELVET: EL NUEVO IMPERIO is available on the Spanish streamer with our gorgeous Yon Gonzalez in the lead role. If I got it right the series will also be available on Peacock for US audience, but I am not sure. A seamstress and the heir to Galerías Velvet pursue a forbidden love, highlighting Latino generational challenges in America amid fashion and daily life. At the heart of the story is Alberto Márquez (Yon González), heir to the Velvet fashion empire, who returns home to save the family business but finds himself reigniting a romance with Ana Velázquez (Samantha Siqueiros), a brilliant young designer who dreams of redefining the industry on her own terms. Their romance sets off a chain of consequences, especially with the arrival of Cristina Otegui (Carolina Miranda), whose feelings for Alberto threaten to tear him and Ana apart.
It is a very sad truth that we have not had many new Non English period set series launch in the first half of the year even though your trusted spy is always scouring the globe searching for new costume dramas for you constantly. But there is one historical series that I announced to you last year and that has finally started airing: new Spanish ten episode historical series BEGUINAS starring wildly gorgeous Yon Gonzalez whom we drooled after in Heirs to the Land

THIS NEW SPANISH PERIOD SET TV DRAMA
is set in the 16th century, with the plot inspired by the communities of Beguines, communities of women who since the 13th century defended an alternative way of life independent of marriage and the Church. The Beguines dedicated themselves to contemplation, but also to action, through crafts, teaching or caring for the sick that provided benefits to society while allowing them to be self-sufficient. The beguines were spaces of relationship and freedom that, despite having popular support, were highly questioned by those in power.

this time it will be HEIRS TO THE LAND (Los Herederos De La Tierra) a follow up to the glorious historical drama Cathe- dral of the Sea which we watched a few years ago. It will also be based on the novels by Ilde- fonso Falcones just like Cathedral del Mar was. It is interesting that Netflix, who will stream the new eight part series on April 15th, will have exclusive first window rights to the new series for 12 months, after which the drama will also be available on Antena 3 and Spain's TV3 for three months! Directed by Jordi Frades it will have the main cast headlined by Yon González, Elena Rivera, Rodolfo Sancho, Michelle Jenner, María Rodríguez, Pere Arquillué, Manel Sans, Mercedes León and Natalia Sánchez.If it proves successful with the audiences around the world, the series
could get a second season order, but given that Netflix has given almost
no marketing to this new series, we probably shouldn't be overly
optimistic, but you never know, the books have millions of fans around
the world and have been translated in many different languages.
