NEW MULTICAM SITCOMS
TO EXPECT IN THE FUTURE
Multicamera sitcoms are kinda experiencing a revival of the genre with the success of Night Court at NBC which already has second season ordered, and beside the revival of Frasier at Paramount, there are some
others currently in preparation. After Carol's Second Act Patricia Heaton is currently working on a new sitcom at Fox in which she will play the host of an upscale lifestyle show, sent to prison for embezzlement and tax evasion. She gets out after two years, forgotten and broke, and moves to Tennessee to live with her estranged sister. Netflix has renewed That 90s Show for a second season. CBS has a Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. comedy about a talk radio host and happily divorced “Poppa”, who has to drag his grown son, who has all his charm and none of his drive, kicking and screaming into adulthood before he turns 40. That one is from Tim Allen's Last Man Standing executive producer, and, speaking of Allen, as Deadline reports, he is apparently looking for a new family sitcom after he finishes Santa Clauses at Disney. CBS also has in works THEY'RE WITH ME, about two soulmates whose souls come with so much baggage — each has a messed-up 20-something kid and a dependent parent. They also have THE HILSONS black multicam about mother who suddenly has to live again with her two grown up sons. ABC has a sitcom with Ty Burrell,
FORGIVE AND FORGET, about a man whose life-of-the-party father is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and he is forced to take in the one man he’s worked his whole life not to become. I've told you before that NBC has a sitcom with Jon Cryer, whose ex wife Abigail Spencer starts a relationship with Donald Faison as the owner of his favourite sports team!

That's lots of sitcoms! I just hope they are good.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed, we have not had a lot of the good ones recently.
DeleteLooks like there ill be plenty of sitcoms to check out.
ReplyDeleteHope they all get ordered for full seasons.
DeleteBring on the sitcoms! So many to choose from, let's hope a few stick around for a few seasons at least. The Wayans one I'll probably like. I always liked what I have watched from both father and son.
ReplyDeleteI am currently watching juniors Happy Together sitcom and it was nice, do not know why it was cancelled, although I do prefer the actress that plays his wife over him, he does not have his fathers or uncles acting chops.
DeleteHis skills definitely aren't as strong as the rest of his family, but he is ever so cute, so I give him a pass.
DeleteMarlon is defo the hottest in that hot family, and the funniest. Junior is cute, but does not have facial expressions of his daddy and uncle, although it is difficult for me to see Marlon as his uncle, as he looks younger than Junior LOL
DeleteI think Marlon was one of my first crushes when I was young. I never missed In Living Color just so I could swoon over him.
DeleteHe is still very shagadelic. Too bad his own sitcom Marlon turned bad in the second season and got cancelled, he overdid it with his gags which are good only in small doses.
DeleteI still only have access to terrestrial TV channels so wouldn't be able to watch Liaison. I had a look at the trailer and Eva Green is playing someone with an English sounding name. Why the heck do showrunners cast her as English? I know some folk gush about her alleged "English" accent but before I tapped out of the awful Camelot I wondered why Morgan Le Fay had a French accent. She sounds like a French person speaking English to me - to be fair she's not cut the accent with a breadknife bad but my English ears would never mistake her speech for that of an English woman. I thought the show might possibly be promising because it's apparently written by someone who worked on scripts for Engrenages/Spiral. Still as I don't have the network it will be broadcast on it's all academic for me.
ReplyDeleteOy, Camelot was so atrocious, I watched just two or three episodes and could not handle the rest. She is currently at court because she is suing a producer who hired her and then opted out of shooting the movie and she still thinks she need to be given money for it. I've heard she is terrible at the sets and that the crew cannot stand her.
DeleteTo be fair I know nothing of EG's character so I can't judge that aspect. I haven't in all honesty seen her in many shows but I tapped out of both Penny Dreadful and Camelot early on. I Penny Dreadful did have a following and someone in The Guardian comments said they had forgiven EG for Camelot because of PD. PD wasn't my cuppa unfortunately but I'm not the TV police. I suppose the court case will depend on EG's contract - sometimes there is a protection clause to ensure payment for an actor in case the production folds though no fault of the actor.
ReplyDeleteShe is trying to portray herself as a victim but she is not. It is a very small movie, the director does not have that kind of money, she just wants to ruin him.
DeleteWell if the director is really skin, if EG were to win she'd end up getting paid in instalments - something like £1 a week maybe. BTW I didn't do my proofreading of my above comment was sub-par. "I Penny Dreadful" doesn't make sense. I think I meant "I know Penny Dreadful"......
DeleteI meant 'skint' not 'skin'.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about spelling, dear, I make typos all the time myself and I'm a professor of English LOL although English is not my mother tongue.
