POLIDORI'S THE VAMPYRE
CASTS DEREK JACOBI AND MALCOLM MCDOWELL AS LEADS
One of the first English language novels to feature blood-sucking creatures, 19th century Gothic novel The Vampyre by John William Polidori will be adapted into a movie with Malcolm McDowell and Derek Jacobi! THE VAMPYRE: BLOOD AND INK will follow Lord Ruthven, a mysterious and magnetic nobleman who captivates London society with his charismatic charm. Aubrey, a young Englishman, becomes infatuated with Ruthven and is drawn into a world of secrets and supernatural horror. As Aubrey uncovers the truth about Ruthven’s sinister nature, he finds himself trapped in a perilous battle against the allure of the vampire’s deadly powers. Polidori was the personal doctor of Lord George Byron, who became an allegory for the character he has created – Lord Ruthven.
I've always wanted to see an adaptaion of this novel that was created simultaneously with Frankenstein, on the same Swiss sojourn, but who is playing Ruthven? and Aubrey? Not these elderly actors, for sure.
ReplyDeleteYes, Polidori even met with the Shelleys through Byron whom he compared to his own vampyre LOL We have no info on the roles, one of them will probably be Ruthven and another Polidori who will also be present in the film, I am guessing Jacobi.
DeleteDerek Jacobi is usually worth a watch. I've admired him (says she showing her age) since he played Hessling the titular 'Man of Straw' on the BBC in 1972 in an adaptation (in English obviously) of Heinrich Mann's 'Der Untertan'. Sadly if what I have read is correct the BBC kept no copy of this dramatisation so we won't be getting DVDs of this early example of DJ's TV acting.
ReplyDeleteDerek is one of my faves, I watched him in ALELUJAH movie with Judi Dench and Jennifer Saunders last weekend and he was amazing in it as always.
DeleteI am not a vampire fans...but both Malcolm McDowell and Derek Jacobi are excellent actors.
ReplyDeleteThey will have such fun together at the sets!
DeleteI'm sure there'll be more names to follow 😁😁🎥
ReplyDeleteHopefully even more names we like.
DeleteI do love a good vampire flick. We’ll be waiting for more info on this one!
ReplyDeleteWith bathed breath.
