Joely Richardson, Julian Ovenden, Gemma Whelan, Michael Landes, Sally Phillips, James Fox and Patricia Hodge are just some of the well known names appearing in this delightful story about two sisters and their families who spend - or rather, endure - Christmas at their late parents' dilapidated country house. 1. There's so much comic stuff on the subject of "surviving" holidays! I remember reading in some article that we have to look at the festive family gathering as 'business not pleasure' and that we 'go in with an open heart and the relatives do surgery'.

Anyway, the movies of the "Surviving Christmas" kind are highly enjoyable and a real treat that help people along with the relatives, the food, the extra pounds.

    1. I absolutely adore festive movies even these ones with dysfunctional families (aren't they all?)

  2. My dysfunctional family stopped getting together for the holidays. I think a few of our gatherings could have made for movie gold. Jason's family is way tamer, which makes celebrating with the family a lot nicer than the craziness I had to deal with at mine.

    1. so now you're celebrating just with the in/laws? I guess it is still better than celebrating with no one like moi :)

  3. Yep, just at the in-laws. Christmas Eve will be at my moms though, but the others won’t come then since they know that’s my holiday to spend with her and the niece and nephew. I’ll be thinking of you on Christmas, dahlink. If you lived here, you would be welcome to spend holidays with us. We did celebrate Friendsgiving yesterday and my besties daughter brought her foreign exchange student friend from Sweden to dinner. Lovely kid that we had a great time sharing his first American Thanksgiving with.

    1. How wonderful! I love foreign exchange students! They will probably remember forever the dinner with you! I bet you already found something lovely for your niece and nephew! I will send them an imaginary hug, poor kiddos! Is their momma around often?

    2. I love them too! Her daughter called and said "I'm bringing Albert. Don't embarrass me". Wrong move because that meant we were going to embarrass her even more. When they walked in, everyone walked up to Albert (our first time meeting him) and gave him a big hug lol. He was very receptive though and hugged everyone back. Sweet kid. We're a rowdy bunch, so I don't think he'll ever forget the visit. He kept laughing at our antics and saying "Oh, Jesus Christ!" every few minutes. I told him I was sending him a friend request on Facebook and when we go to Sweden in a few years, he better return the hospitality and make us dinner :P

The kid's moms will see them Christmas morning. They just don't come on Christmas Eve because they know that I would prefer not to be in their company. They are teens now, so they'll be getting a little candy and gift cards from me this year. That's all they want instead of gifts to open.

    3. He'll make you some nice fish :) We like to hug over here too! We actually kiss thrice in the cheek in greeting! And it is offensive here not to eat everything from the table when being a guest :) I think that's the opposite of the Japanese.

Will their other brother (I remember you mentioned the one that got adopted by some family) visit them too?
