do anything to protect their disabled daughter from the attentions of
the ruling Nazi regime.
I'm , of course, interested in the Dracula mini series, although I'm not originally from Transilvania where he had his headquarters, but from an other part of Romania.
ReplyDeleteThey say that the real Dracula (Vlad the Impaler) was even more terrifying than the blood drinking character in Stoker's book.
I'm quite close to Transylvania, and we have quite cheap tourist weekend tours going there but I've never found enough time so far for it, but I should.
DeleteVlad Tepes was rightfully bloodthirsty, he used to cover whole fields with evil Turks impaled on stakes, but he had to scare them away because the Ottomans were the horrid scourge of the Balkans, we all suffered terribly under them. They used to raid our villages, steal kids, train them as Jannisaries and then send them back to butcher their own mothers and fathers and countrymen. I also vaguely remember that Vlad's own brother was taken by Mehmed the Conqueror and held as a hostage for years (there are also rumours that during that time Mehmed constantly raped him as he was sexually totally mad, and not just sexually, of course)....
You should find the time and go visit Bran castle near the city of Brashov. It's quite an attraction, and I see you have a good knowledge of the historical background of Vlad Tepes.
ReplyDeleteWe do love Romania here actually :) It's the only neighbouring country that has never attacked us, put a knife into our back or misbehaved :) One of our last queens was Romanian.
DeleteI am looking forward to the Dracula mini series. If you do go on the tour, you must take pictures and share. I'd love to visit Transylvania some day. It will be one of those adult trips for just Jason and I that I am looking forward to some day. I don't think the girls would appreciate it as much as I would, because they are boring like that.
ReplyDeleteThey have an exquisitely interesting architecture in Wallachia and Transylvania, with extremely Gothic towers and castles, it is truly a sight to see. Tours cost less than 300euro here, but I've never got the time nor anyone to go with.
DeleteFind the time and go by yourself! I sometimes think I would love to be a solo traveler. I love my own company, plus the fam gets irritated that I like to study things and take way too many photos when they are ready to move along. I woke up early in Ireland, like 5am, and since the rest of the family was suffering a cold, I told Jason I was headed out and around Dublin to explore by myself while they slept. He did not like that one bit and insisted on coming with me. Pissed me off a bit, but what can you do? I would drop 300 euro in a heartbeat for the tours there. I love Gothic towers and castles and could make an entire vacation out of exploring them!
Deleteyes, but you is brave like that, unlike moi, I'm more of a scaredy lil' mouse :)
DeleteIt's a safe bet that Sean Bean's character will get killed off because doesn't that always happen?
ReplyDeleteusually, not always though, he is still alive in Frankenstein Chronicles, methinks. I haven't yet seen the second season of Medici Masters of Florence in which he is in, but I wonder if they kill him or not.
DeleteAll 3 sound pretty decent to me.
ReplyDeleteglad to hear it, Ray
DeleteWill Sean live in this one I wonder?
ReplyDeleteit's WW2, the odds are even smaller for him
DeleteI hope it doesn't suck.
ReplyDeletewe don't have that kind of luck
DeleteDamn, Dezzz :D
Deleteyou could've just said the F word for the rhyme!
