Sony Pictures TV has unveiled lead cast for their new ten episode epic series CARLOTA on the empress of Mexico. It reimagines a visionary royal ahead of her time, following Carlota (pop star Belinda) of Habsburg’s arrival in Mexico full of idealism and determined to change the world. But as political unrest deepens and cultural tensions rise, she finds herself entangled in a far more complex reality, including a love story that defies fairy-tale expectations. As Carlota and her husband Maximilian (Jaime Lorente) attempt to build a new empire, they are drawn into a dangerous web of ambition, loyalty and betrayal. Miguel Ángel Silvestre and Mabel Cadena will also star.

First look at Miriam Margolyes and Stephen Fry in heartwarming movie A FRIEND OF DOROTHY has been released. The short film will premiere this June at Raindance Film Festival following Dorothy (Margolyes), an elderly woman living alone, whose unexpected friendship with her young neighbour, JJ (Alistair Nwachukwu), begins when his football lands in her garden. Exploring LGBTQ+ themes, loneliness in old age and intergenerational friendship,  the film will also screen privately at old age homes and schools across the country alongside its festival release. Lee Knight produces and directs this short movie.

Screen Daily have got their paws on the first image of Jack Davenport in charming new comedy movie BLUEBERY INN which also stars Chloe Lea, Alexander Arnold and Michael Maloney. Directed by Sonia Guggenheim it is about an emotionally stunted butler who is inexplicably gifted a broken-down inn in Yorkshire from the lord for whom he worked, He is tasked with uniting three chaotic employees and a cheeky pig to save the inn from disaster.

Coming to BBC One Sunday May 25th the comedy series will follow the unlikely crime-solving partnership between eccentric national treasure John Chapel (Timothy Spall), a retired actor and star of hit fictional detective TV show, and Welsh detective sergeant Janie Mallowan (Gwyneth Keyworth). Thrown together in DEATH VALLEY by the murder of John’s neighbour, John and Janie are an odd, yet hilarious duo with opposing instincts. Every week, they get to the bottom of gripping murders, with various stunning Welsh locations providing a backdrop to their investigations. When John and Janie are not arguing about a case, they’re inevitably up in each other’s personal business. Despite their differences, they soon realise they are the closest thing each other has to a best friend, and unwittingly help one another move on from the past. The series will also be available for streaming on BritBox.

STAR TREK SEASON 3 AIR DATE REVEALED

The series is back July 17th at Paramount Plus

It seems it's been years since the second season, but Paramount + promises the third season of STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS science fiction series is finally arriving July 17th this summer after such a long, long wait! To celebrate it they released the official poster
a month after the release of a teaser back in April, and a bunch of lovely new characters posters which you can all see below in the post, announcing what we can expect from the new season. It is interesting that the fourth season has already been ordered and is currently in production over in Canada. Hope we also get a full trailer soon for the new season.

 

IN THE BRAND NEW SEASON

 Anson Mount returns as Captain Pike at the helm of USS Enterprise in the conclusion of season two’s scary battle with the Gorn which ended with a cliff hanger. Now, new life and civilizations await the crew, including a villain that will test our characters’ grit and resolve and take characters both new and beloved to new heights, and dive into thrilling adventures of faith, duty, romance, comedy, and mystery, with varying genres never before seen on any other Star Trek. As you can see there will be a retro murder mystery aboard the ship which will also see the return of Paul Wesley as James T. Kirk. Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia all return as regular crew members, alongside guest stars Rhys Darby, Patton Oswalt,and Carol Kane. The series will again stream on Paramount Plus and in some parts of Europe on SkyShowtime. Beside the fact that one of the episodes will see the crew of Enterprise turn Vulcan, we also know that Cillian O’Sullivan will be joining the new season as a recurring guest star, playing the legacy role of Dr. Roger Korby, a renowned archaeologist and scientist known for his groundbreaking work in the field of medical archaeology. Martin Quinn, as a young version of future Enterprise chief engineer Montgomery Scott will also be a regular now.

She will play a young woman who copes with her sister’s death by leaving her voicemails chronicling her chaotic life in San Francisco. When the number is unknowingly reassigned, an elusive Austin real estate agent begins receiving the hilariously confessional messages.

REVEALS JULY START DATE AT AT UKTV'S ALIBI

UKTV's Alibi channel has shot a new six episode series from Mark Gatiss who also stars as a book shop-owning sleuth and we have the first clip from it. With the start date set for July, the series has also been renewed for a second season to arrive next year. Set in 1946 London BOOKISH will see him play the erudite and unconventional Gabriel Book, who helps the police to solve a variety of mysterious crimes from his antiquarian bookshop. With three main cases in the brand new series starting this July, each storyline spans two episodes.

 

  LONDON, 1946

is the dynamic, dangerous and chaotic setting for this stylish new detective drama, with the eccentric Gabriel Book at the very heart of the story: a self-appointed consultant detective to the local police. The thousands of books that line the shelves of his shop provide him with all the knowledge he needs. Book has gathered around him a host of lovable, damaged misfits whom he informally protects, cajoles, and mentors. 

 

 WHO IS IN  THE CAST?

 Polly Walker will play his wife Trottie, a charismatic adventuress whom Book loves but not physically, for they are in a ‘lavender’ marriage to conceal Book’s sexual orientation in a time when it was illegal to be gay. Joely Richardson, Daniel Mays, Jonas Nay, Connor Finch, Elliot Levey and Buket Kömür also star. Blake Harrison joins the returning core cast members as Sergeant Morris, with Rosie Cavaliero, Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, Tom Forbes, Amanda Drew, Luke Norris, Ella Bruccoleri and Michael Workéyè. The film will bring us the shocking untold story of Simpson’s final years. Isabella Rossellini joins her as Suzanne Blum, the formidable French lawyer and confidante of Simpson who at the hands of Blum found herself ensnared in a menacing grip of obsession and coercive control. Lambert Wilson also stars.
