PBS Masterpiece and Mammoth Screen have unveiled stunningly gorgeous first teaser trailer for their new TV series version of famous The Forsyte Saga with six episodes based on John Galsworthy famous novel. THE FORSYTES will arrive to British Channel 5 this Autumn and then later on cross the ocean to visit American audience sometime next year on PBS Masterpiece which has already renewed the new costume drama for a second season.

a rich British family in 1880s London Francesca Annis will play formidable Forsyte matriarch Ann. Stephen Moyer is Ann’s eldest son, Jolyon Senior, head of the family stockbroking firm Forsyte & Co. Jack Davenport plays Ann’s competitive younger son James.  Joshua Orpin stars as James’ shrewd son Soames, with  Millie Gibson  as his love interest. Tom Durant Pritchard  plays Monty Dartie, James’ son-in-law. Eleanor Tomlinson plays Louisa Byrne, a Soho dressmaker and Jo’s first love. 

THE SECOND SEASON ALREADY SHOOTING 

It is interesting that even before the airing of the first season, we know that Richard Rankin will be joining the cast in the second season next year. In this next chapter that is now shooting in Britain, the proud dynasty faces a new era of scandal, ambition, and shifting loyalties. As love, legacy and reputation collide, the cracks in the family’s polished façade grow ever deeper. The second season is currently shooting over in Great Britain.

FIRST EMILY BLUNT PHOTOS

Well, it has been a very, very long wait, but BBC has finally published first images from their new Western series THE ENGLISH with Emily Blunt in the lead role. Given that it will air in November on BBC Two not One, might it mean it is not good when they moved it to their less watched channel especially given the fact that we waited for years for it to arrive after being announced first? Well let us hope not. Emily Blunt stars in this six episode series as Lady Cornelia Locke and Chaske Spencer as Pawnee ex-cavalry scout Eli Whipp in high-octane western which will also stream on Prime Video in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The series’ acclaimed ensemble cast includes Stephen Rea, Valerie Pachner, Rafe Spall, Tom Hughes, Toby Jones and Ciarán Hinds!

 

   THE ENGLISH TAKES
 the core themes of identity and revenge to tell a uniquely compelling parable on race, love and power. An aristocratic Englishwoman, Lady Cornelia Locke (Emily Blunt) and Eli Whipp (Chaske Spencer) come together in 1890 mid-America to cross a violent landscape built on dreams and blood.Both of them have a clear sense of their destiny but neither is aware that it is rooted in a shared past. According to Screen Daily, Josh O'Connor has penned new movie BONUS TRACK in which he will also star next to Jack Davenport, Alison Sudol, Susan Wokoma, Ray Pathaki and young Joe Anders and Samuel Small in the lead roles. Set in 2006, the Sky film follows a 16-year-old who believes he is a future star musician, even when no-one else in his small town does. The arrival of the son of a famous musical duo who helps him rehearse for a talent show leads both boys to learn from each other and grow closer.

Marcus heads to New Hampshire to stay with his college professor, Harry Quebert (Patrick Dempsey), to focus on his writing. When the body of fifteen year old Nola Kellergan is found on his property 33 years after she went missing and Quebert is accused of her murder, Marcus works to uncover the truth. The result of his investigation becomes his next book. The cast also includes Virginia Madsen, Colm Feore, and Damon Wayans Jr. as the investigator in the case. The series will air on MGM's Epix cable channel.

OK, people, we're back after a three day break, the longest one in our history (not that any of you lazy bastards actually noticed - which makes the spy a bit depressed), we were without internet, but I do have delish news, beginning with new casting update for GUN POWDER epic mini series which I announced last winter. Joining Kit Harington in the lead role are now Liv Tyler and Mark Gattis!

It will be the story of GUN POWDER Plot, the 1605 attempt by a group of provincial English Catholics to blow up the House of Lords and kill King James I in order to help restore a Catholic to the throne. The plot was foiled on November 5 when authorities at Westminster Palace found Guy Fawkes guarding the explosives. While he played a pivotal role, Fawkes did not devise the plan. The man behind it was Robert Catesby (Harington), a 30 year old Warwickshire gentleman and committed Catholic at a time when Protestant England persecuted the church’s members relentlessly. Harington, who is a direct descendant of Catesby, is also producing!

'DOOMSDAY' ABC SERIES

Meanwhile, another of our fave epic stars, always delightful Jack Davenport has been cast by American ABC to lead the pilot for their DOOMSDAY about U.S. government's secret think tank featuring the most creative minds in science and entertainment that is tasked with dreaming up man made disaster scenarios and their possible solutions. When a catastrophe occurs that’s ripped from the pages of the missing doomsday book, the team is brought back to work to prevent the disasters of their own making. Davenport will play Warren, a well-known intellectual playwright turned middle brow action screenwriter. Member of the former Doomsday Project think tank, he is imaginative and creative and sees the world like a story which helps him think like (and even empathize with) the enemy.

'HOWARD'S END' MINI SERIES

I announced last week that BBC and Starz are going to produce period set mini TV series on HOWARD'S END with Matthew MacFadyen and now we have new cast members including Joseph Quinn (whom we fell in love with in Dickensian), Julia Ormond and Alex Lawther among others!

Telling the story of two couples caught in a swirling landscape of social and class divisions in turn of the century England, the four part series focuses on Margaret Schlegel (Hayley Atwell), an idealistic, woman who is courted by the older Henry Wilcox (Matthew Macfadyen), a conservative businessman, after his wife Ruth Wilcox (Julia Ormond) dies unexpectedly. Meanwhile, Margaret’s passionate and capricious younger sister Helen Schlegel (Philippa Coulthard) takes up the cause of Leonard Bast (Joseph Quinn), a young bank clerk who falls on hard times at work and at home with his partner Jacky (Rosalind Eleazar). In the absence of their parents, who have died, the sisters’ loving but interfering Aunt Juley (Tracey Ullman) tries to keep the young ladies and their brother Tibby (Alex Lawther) on the straight and narrow.

Not much to report this boring Monday, so I will entertain you with two heartwarming movies, starting with MILTON'S SECRET a movie about family and the uncertain times families live in. Milton (William Ainscough) is a 12 year old boy growing up in an economically and socially unpredictable world. His mother and father (Mia Kirshner, David Sutcliffe) are workaholics with marital and financial problems, and he is bullied at school. When his grandfather (Donald Sutherland) visits, Milton learns rehashing the past and worrying about the future are preventing him from finding true happiness. The movie is out September 30th!

Ooh, here's another period set drama coming to us from ITV in the future: they're preparing HARLOTS eight episode series together with Hulu! And they already have leading three - Jessica Brown Findlay, Samantha Morton and Lesley Manville!

Set against in 18th century Georgian London, HARLOTS is a family drama offering a new take on the city’s most valuable commercial activity: sex. Based on the stories of real women, the series follows Margaret Wells (Samantha Morton) and her daughters as she struggles to reconcile her roles as mother and brothel owner. When her business comes under attack from Lydia Quigley (Lesley Manville), a rival madam with a ruthless streak, Margaret will fight back, even if it means putting her family at risk. Jessica Brown Findlay is Charlotte, Margaret’s eldest daughter and the city’s most coveted courtesan who begins to grapple with her position in both society and her immediate family.

'MIRROR'S EDGE' GAME

Speaking of new series, 'Deadline' reports that Endemol is going to turn action adventure video game MIRROR'S EDGE into another female centred TV series! The story is set in a quasi futuristic dystopian society in which a network of “runners” act as couriers to transmit messages while evading government surveillance. The game’s main character and heroine is Faith, a runner and skilled warrior whose sister is framed for murder. The narrative follows Faith as she is drawn into the fight against the ruling Conglomerate and becomes enveloped in a conspiracy that could bring down society itself.
