Now this is probably the best news of the week: not only that Slingshot Global Media has announced their work on CLEOPATRA epic TV series, but it has also been revealed today that our absolute favourite director Shekhar Kapur (ELIZABETH, ELIZABETH GOLDEN AGE, FOUR FEATHERS) will helm it and write it!  Instead of focusing on the arch seductress made famous by her affairs with men like Julius Caesar and Marc Antony, the show will highlight the opposite – that these men were famous because of her. It will follow the narrative of an 18-year-old girl who came to be a Pharaoh and a queen – a woman who was brighter, more intelligent, richer and a better ruler than the men of her time. The series will reinvent her as the modern woman, a woman that understood the power of myth and turned herself into a myth, constantly reinventing herself. It will highlight her great loves and her survival in the face of repeated assassination attempts, which made her one of the most dangerous, yet most powerful, thrones of all time.

  'THE DURRELLS' PERIOD SERIES

Earlier this year I announced that British ITV is making a television series out of MY FAMILY AND OTHER ANIMALS memoir by Gerald Durrell and THE DURRELLS now have the cast! Our beloved Keeley Hawes will lead it alongside legendary Leslie Caron and Greek star Alexis Georgoulis. The 1930's six part series focuses on Louisa Durrell (Keeley Hawes), whose husband died years before and his money has almost run out. Her four children Larry (Josh O'Connor), Leslie (Callum Woodhouse), Margo (Daisy Waterstone) and Gerry (Milo Parker) are running riot and making life very difficult. Louisa decides to escape from Britain for a new adventure in Corfu, taking her family with her. Alexis Georgoulis will play the dependable Spiro Halkiopoulos, while Leslie Caron will  be shrewd Countess Mavrodaki, who hires Margo as her companion.

20th Century Fox has released the first trailer and poster  for this November's horror drama VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN following radical scientist Victor Frankenstein (James McAvoy) and his equally brilliant protégé Igor Strausman (Daniel Radcliffe) who share a noble vision. They want to aid humanity through their ground breaking research into immortality. But Victor's experiments go too far, and his obsession has horrifying consequences. Only Igor can bring his friend back from the brink of madness and save him from his monstrous creation. Paul McGuigan from BBC's SHERLOCK is directing!

The only thing the spy has for you today are the photos from BBC One's TV movie LADY CHATTERLEY'S LOVER which will air September 6th in UK. The adaptation of DH Lawrence's infamous novel has probably the hottest trio I've seen on the telly - magnetic Richard Madden, gorgeous Holly Grainger and seductive James Norton. Although a producer said it's borderline pornographic, I hear the three erotic scenes in the film won't show any titties, bums nor willies... sadly :(

  LOVE AND BETRAYAL 
In the lavish 90 minute long drama set after the Word War One, James Norton stars as Lord Clifford Chatterley and Holliday Grainger as his wife, Constance, who embarks on a torrid affair with their gamekeeper, the former miner Oliver Mellors played by Richard Madden with whom she gets pregnant. The story will have more of an emotional than sexual context.

Coming out next April with CGI animals and one live actor, the movie, which follows an orphan boy who is raised in the Jungle with the help of a pack of wolves, a bear and a black panther. Little Neel Sethi plays Mowgli, Ben Kingsley voices black panther Bagheera, Lupita Nyong'o is mother wolf Raksha, Scarlett Johansson is snake Kaa, Bill Mooray is bear Baloo, Idris Elba is Shere Khan, Christopher Walken is King Louie!

It's a Disney day today, people, since the studio has announced a number of great news today, starting with pop star Shakira who will lend her voice to Gazelle and she will also sing the main song TRY EVERYTHING written by Sia in ZOOTOPIA! Gazelle will be the biggest pop star next March in ZOOTOPIA, the modern mammal metropolis in which the main hero an optimistic police bunny  discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy!

'GIGANTIC' JACK & MAGIC BEAN ANIMATED FILM
But probably the biggest is the announcement of GIGANTIC, Jack and the Magic Bean animated Disney movie directed by TANGLED's Nathan Greno with the story  set in Spain during the Age of Exploration, and following adventure seeker Jack as he discovers a world of giants hidden within the clouds. He hatches a grand plan with Inma, a 60-foot-tall girl, and agrees to help her stop a group of villains called Storm Giants! The movie is set for 2018 release after MOANA in 2016.The music is being written by FROZEN composers!

They have also revealed the first image from FINDING DORY sequel arriving next summer to reunite Dory with friends Nemo and Marlin on a search for answers about her past. What can she remember? Who are her parents? With voices from Ellen DeGeneres and Diane Keaton, new characters will include a cantankerous octopus, a misguided beluga whale and  a kind hearted whale shark!

Anne Hathaway will also return as White Queen and Helena Bonham Carter as Red Queen and Stephen Fry as Cheshire Cat! Joining Alice in her quest to save Mad Hatter, will be Rhys Ifans as Zanik Hightopp, the Mad Hatter's father and Ed Speleers as James Harcourt.

Disney has also revealed the first cast photo from STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE spin off which includes Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen,  Donnie Yen and Riz Ahmed. The movie with deal with the stolen plans of Death Star and is directed by Gareth Edwards for December 2016 release.

First, a trailer announcing the second season of E!'s first scripted series THE ROYALS which has scored major success earlier this year following a fictional British royal family lead by Elizabeth Hurley as Queen Helena and William Moseley as Prince Liam. The new season will see them coping with the king's death this November. Joan Collins will also return as queen's mother.

Just two epic TV updates for you today, people, beginning with the first poster for FX's upcoming new historical series THE BASTARD EXECUTIONER which is bringing medieval weaponry to the small screens from September 15th! FX has also released a number of promo teasers for the new show and I'm showing you two of them below.

 Coming from Kurt Sutter (SONS OF ANARCHY), the ten episode historical action series THE BASTARD EXECUTIONER tells the story of a warrior knight (Lee Jones) in King Edward The Thirds charge who is broken by the ravages of war and vows to lay down his sword. But when that violence finds him again, he is forced to pick up the bloodiest sword of all: an executioner's sword. Part of the plot will deal with fallout from the Madog ap Llywelyn Welsh rebellion! Stephen Moyer, Matthew Rhys and Ed Sheeran are also in the cast!

Meanwhile, HBO has released the first teaser trailer for their own epic series, sf western WESTWORLD which boasts a rather stellar cast lead by Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Rodrigo Santoro and Ben Barnes! The story is set in a futuristic amusement park in which androids play people of the Wild West without knowing that they aren't real people! It is described as a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin!

Now, here's something wonderfully naughty and wonderfully historical to start your week in a regal mood. BBC 2 has released first cast pictures and a trailer for their upcoming TV movie THE SCANDA- LOUS LADY W starring Natalie Dormer (The Tudors, Hunger Games, Game of Thrones) who leads a cast of British actors in this gripping 18th century drama, detailing the scandalous life of Seymour, Lady Worsley, who dared to leave her husband and elope with his best friend, Captain George Bisset, played by Aneurin Barnard (The White Queen). The movie will air August 17th!

In the TV movie based on the book LADY WORSLEY'S WHIM by Hallie Rubenhold (who was inspired by the full length oil painting of Lady Worsley that hangs in Harewood House in Yorkshire in which she is depicted wearing a bright red riding habit.),  Natalie Dormer plays the passionate, courageous Seymour, Lady Worsley, who escapes her troubled marriage only to find herself at the centre of a very public trial brought by her powerful husband Sir Richard Worsley, played by Shaun Evans, who seeks compensation from her lover for the affair. As this extraordinary true story unfolds, Lady Worsley takes the brave decision to publicly expose the secrets of her marriage. The scandalous courtroom revelations challenge the hypocrisy of the law that brands a wife the property of her husband, calling into question the whole concept of a woman’s 'worth'.
