SEMMELWEIS TRAILER
FOR HUNGARY'S CANDIDATE IN OSCAR RACE
The film is on Netflix in some countries |
WHAT IS THE STORY?
This historical biopic centres around a famous Hungarian doctor Ignac Semmelweis (Miklós H. Vecsei)
who introduced antiseptic procedures at a Vienna maternity clinic. In
1847 a mysterious epidemic is raging in a maternity clinic in Vienna,
while the doctor Ignác Semmelweis tries to defeat puerperal fever by
going against all traditional theories. After playing in Hungarian
cinemas earlier this year it became their most watched movie in last
five years. The film is available for streaming on Netflix in some countries, methinks.
Semmelweis sounds so German to me...don't think I have ever watched anything from Hungry. If it's on Netflix over here, then we might just watch it.
ReplyDeleteWell, he is obviously Austrian, given that it was AustroHungarian empire. It is quite shocking to know that people started paying attention to sterile instruments and hygiene only in the 19th century.
DeleteI'll have to see if this is available here. And honestly, it is shocking how new the concept is of a sterile environment for medical procedures really is. Or the concept of hygiene in general. I mean, indoor plumbing and regular bathing is actually a fairly new thing too. My grandma had an outhouse and used magazines to wipe her butt with. We're even behind the times here in the US and are only just now catching on to the cleanliness of using a bidet.
ReplyDeleteYes, they bathed us once a week as kids, my mother still lives in medieval times when it comes to hygiene. Brother as well, I cannot stand it. Even antibiotics were invented in the 20th century.
DeleteIt amazes me how many people think toothpaste and deodorant are optional as well. I had to ride the train to Chicago in July and it was so hot and people smelled so bad. Like, it should be mandatory if you're going to be stuck in close proximity of other humans with no escape.
DeleteDa nastiness! My brother does not use anything, no deodorant, no shower gels, not even a tooth paste, nothing of cosmetics, like in medieval times.
DeleteEeek. You should show him the lovely scents I sent you last Christmas. Maybe that will entice him engage with some basic hygiene.
DeleteNope, he only uses goat milk soap and that is it.
