THE NEWSREADER
SECOND SEASON IS HERE!
Two years ago we proclaimed it the series of the year and it went and won numerous awards from Australia's Film and TV Academy, and now THE NEWSREADER is finally coming back with six episode long second season which starts September 10th on ABC. The first season also aired on BBC, Roku and many other streamers boasting outstanding performances from our dearest boy Sam Reid, Anna Torv and the rest of the flawlessly brilliant cast. The immersive series explores the personal and professional lives of
journalists and crew within a 1980s Australian newsroom.

STORY OF THE SECOND SEASON
set
across 1987 and 1988, will revolve around Dale and Helen contending
with rising public profiles, intensifying office politics, and a
ruthless new CEO of the network. They are now the Golden couple of News!
To the outside world, they present a glowing image of success and
romance but the truth is more complex. Helen and Dale grapple with who
they really want to be in life – and whether that path can be
together. News events covered in the season include the 1987 federal
election, the stock market crash, the separation of
Prince Charles and
Diana Spencer, the heroin crisis, and the Hoddle Street shootings.

WHO IS IN THE CAST?
With the cast from the first season returning (William McInnes, Robert Taylor, Michelle Lim Davidson, Stephen Peacocke, Chai Hansen, Chum Ehelepola, and Marg Downey) they will now also be joined by Daniel Gillies as the new network CEO, Phillipa Northeast as Geoff and Evelyn's 'complex' daughter Kay, Fleck Byrne as superstar variety host Gerry, and Hunter Page-Lochard as firebrand activist Lynus. The second season was ordered before the airing of the first one which turned out to be a massive success with critics and the audience, so there is hope we might get a third season as well venturing into the 90s. The shooting ended in September and after that both Reid and Torv became stars over in USA as well, he as vampire Lestat in Interview with the Vampire series and she as the star of The Last of Us apocalyptic hit series at HBO. Each episode will be followed by a podcast covering the real life events from the episode's story. In UK, the series became BBC2's most watched Sunday drama in almost half a decade.
I haven't watched this. Sounds interesting though.
ReplyDeleteIt was really good, one of the best series of the decade.
DeleteOh, I forgot all about this one. Need to check it out, for sure!
ReplyDeleteYou must, it was brilliant! You can catch it on Roku.
DeleteI don't have a roku but my mom does. I'll have to see about borrowing hers.
DeleteI really loved the series, one of the very few good ones in last ten years.
DeleteHave never watched anything your favourite Sam Neid...what's his well known series or film?
ReplyDeleteHe is known as my secret husband. He has been acting in many films, especially costume ones, for more than a decade now. Lambs of God series is probably my fave from his work.
