character Doctor Garcia, with Tamar Novas as Arroyo. The female lead went to the godawful Veronica Echegui. The series, based on the novel written by 
Almudena Grandes set in the Civil War and the Spanish post-war years, was produced by Spanish national broadcaster RTVE and Netflix Espana. The series already started in Spain on April 19th. THE STORY OF THE SERIES
After Franco's victory, Dr. Guillermo García Medina (Javier Rey) continues to live in Madrid under a false identity. The documentation that
freed him
from the firing squad was a gift from his best friend, Manuel Arroyo
Benítez (Tamar Novas), a Republican diplomat whose life he saved in
1937. 
Doctor García believes that he will never see him again but, in
September 1946, Manuel returns from exile with a secret and dangerous
mission. The 
republican diplomat intends to infiltrate a clandestine
organization, the evasion network of war criminals and fugitives from
the Third Reich led from the Argüelles quarter by a German and Spanish,
Nazi and Falangist woman named Clara Stauffer.

Why is Veronica Echegui godawful?
ReplyDeleteBecause she is a terrible actress and yet keeps getting roles. Cannot watch anything with her.

DeleteIt has been a long wait, I just hope it is worth it. On one hand, before dying , the author Almudena Grandes checked and approved the scripts so they are supposedly faithful to the book. On the other hand that Netflix has put money on the project frightens me.
ReplyDeleteYes, just heard that Sarandos got over 50 million salary. For what exactly? By some miracle they got 2 million users this year. Either they are lying or we live in a world we do not understand.
DeleteI'm up in the air on this one. It's nice when Netflix has little gems like this out, but as Malena pointed out, it is from Netflix after all. I've gotten excited about more of their shows lately only to be let down most times. I've been on the fence about resubscribing to Apple TV lately and nixing Netflix for some time.

DeleteI don't know how. With their constant price hikes and complete garbage, I can't believe they are still gaining new customers. It's insane!

DeleteOr we are not coping well with the internet era that has ruined humanity and ate its soul. I like to blame internet for everything, the mankind was not prepared for it....
DeleteTheresa and Gattocito, it’s not that we are old whiners. We are really living in awful times, just look at how unhappy and troubled the younger generation is. Even the causes they embrace do not bring them joy. We have a rising rate of mental illness among children (hence the label “special” for many of them) a high rate of teenage suicide, identity problems, depression, one out of five kids are in some sort of medication. I don’t foresee a rosy future with such a flawed generation.
DeleteAbout the new Netflix sunscriptors, most come from India the highest populated country in the world, where Netflix charges like two dollars. About the funds they get, I’m no conspiracy theorist, but there is a force behind Netflix willing to invest millions in a platform that is able to transmit a particular agenda to all over the world. In fact, several African countries have tried to ban Netflix accusing it of being a cultural imperialism weapon.
What matters is that, at least in the USA, Netflix hasn’t had a program that can compete with the leading shows in the land: The Mandalorian, Succession, Ted Lasso and Yellowstone. Even the most popular Netflix shows like Bridgerton won’t go above the 7. something approval.
Netflix cancels shows every day, has taken desperate measures to get rid of shared accounts, created a pitiful service that costs less but includes ads, is making cheaper shows, investing in cheaper markets (Korean) and the video game industry, that doesn’t sound like it’s a buoyant business.
They have also let off a number of their big executives cutting down certain sectors, kinda like Disney who today or yesterday? fired half of the planned 7,000 layoffs. And with the insane jump of prices of food and basic stuff and so many people unemployed, we are ripe for a benevolent alien invasion, methinks. Either that or a good old revolution, but who will lead revolution with these little idiots as our new generations???
DeleteMalena, you've definitely hit the nail on the head. Coupled with Dezzy stating that we were not ready for the internet. I'd love to get back to simpler times where parents could parent without so many outside influences coming in to put their two cents in. We have so much brain washing from "influencers" (actors, politicians, TikTok stars, athletes) that the younger generation look up to and take their word for gold. I don't remember being celebrity obsessed when I was a kid (minus the teeny bopper boy bands that I had posters of on my walls) and I never would have been able to tell you their political views or what causes they backed because they weren't shoving them down our throats in real time. Then we have big pharma pushing pills for everything these days instead of getting to the root of the cause. It's easier and more profitable to pill push and the politicians do nothing to stop it. No, I do not foresee a rosy future either with the issues we are facing with the younger generation. Dezzy, they will not stand up and fight a revolution. They will scream into their megaphones and stomp their feet and call everyone a racist, bigot, homophobe, or whatever the new buzzword of the day is, and that will be the extent of it. Keyboard arguing and name calling is all they are good for. They cannot handle confrontation and that's why we have designated safe spaces now.
