THE WARLOCK EFFECT TO
When it comes to new book adaptations, the news of the day is that Hartswood Films has bought TV rights on THE WARLOCK EFFECT Cold War thriller about a magician who flees Nazi Germany and is lured into espionage, written by Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman!
Their debut book, which is effectively out in the bookshops since
Thursday, centers on Ludvik Weinschenk, a boy who escapes tyranny in
Germany to become the most famous magician in 1950s Britain under the
stage name Louis Warlock. His talent for deception attracts the
attention of the British secret service and he is thrown into the world
of espionage on a mission across Europe. THE REGIME TEASER
KATE WINSLET IS IN POWER
HBO Max, soon to be known as just Max and including also Discovery offer, has released first teaser trailer for new limited series THE REGIME which will start its tyrannical rule sometime next year with Kate Winslet in the lead role and Matthias Schoenaerts and Hugh Grant in supporting roles. Martha Plimpton, as you can see in the teaser, plays a confused US emissary. Known previously as The Palace, THE REGIME is directed by the amazing Stephen Frears, and tells the story of a year inside the palace of a modern European regime as it starts to unravel.
Wish these two were on Netflix!
ReplyDeleteNope, the second one will be on Max, and probably on regular HBO which you probably have in your cable offer.
DeleteI haven't been able to access HBOMax since New Year's, hope this move to just Max may solve the problem. Dying to meet this Warlock. If Netflix picks it up will mean it's not worth it.
ReplyDeleteI have heard that HBO service is especially difficult for customer help. Here we can pay an additional fee for HBO with our monthly cable price, but it is not the same HBO programme like there and they include some series from other networks too, methinks. Fox channels come free with the cable and they air most of the better US shows and sitcoms. Epic Drama that airs our historical shows is not available at all cable providers, but our two state broadcasters, RTS and TV Vojvodina air some of the nice shows, even British ones and Russian ones.
DeleteA lady from New Zealand mentioned that a murderess from New Zealand who re-invented herself as an author "Anne Perry" has died recently. In the film 'Heavenly Creatures' Kate Winslet a young Kate Winslet played one of the two teenage girls who murdered the mother of one of them (it was the mother of the friend of Kate Winslet's character). Kate Winslet played "Anne" before she changed her name to Anne. Apparently Anne had some success as an author.
DeleteYes, I read yesternight that she died, I did adore Heavenly Creatures, probably my fave film as a teenager. Melanie Linski or what is her name also starred in it, and she is now in the spotlight again with her role in a new hit series.
DeleteAs long as she isn't on a ship that sinks, I'm all for it. Howdy, Dez.
ReplyDeleteIsn't??? She is stirring the ship to its doom, brother....
DeleteWow!
DeleteShe's the dictator!
DeleteHas there ever been a magician who doubled as a spy, I wonder? It sounds like an interesting idea for a story/adaptation of said story.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what nationality Matthias Schoenaerts' (Schoenaerts's?) character will be. I know of (did I mention this before?) a married couple who spent much of the most recent movie version 'Far From the Madding Crowd' trying to decide what nationality the actor playing Farmer Oaks was.
I bet it has. I know that one of our old Yugoslav agents served as a role model for Flemyng's Bond. Matthias is from Belgium, so he had that accent.
DeleteOh, Kate is playing a hard core biyatch this round. I want to hate it, but dang it, I’m drawn to her playing a hard ass.
ReplyDeleteShould be a fun series, methinks.
