THE GREATEST EXPEDITION
Amundsen will hit cinemas this spring in USA |
THE STORY OF THE MOVIE
After reading in a newspaper about Roald Amundsen's missing in the North
Pole, his brother Leon (Christian Rubeck) leaves his house to walk next door to the Roald's house, to await news. Taking him wrongly as a
thief,
Leon is hit by Bess Brigads (Katherine Waterston), Roald's
younger love interest. Introducing each other, Bess learns from Leon
about the childhood of Roald Amundsen, who rose with a happy family with
his parents and other three brothers fascinated by North and South
Pole, after the unknown and uncharted lands due to the extreme
conditions of survival by the so much below zero temperatures. When
their father died during one of his usual sea voyages and their mother
died by disease some time later, Roald and Leon strengthened their bond
in their wish to be the first men to arrive to North Pole, where Roald
would be the explorer and Leon the financier to get a team and the
enough money for the travel. But in 1908 Frederick Cook's claiming to
have arrived North Pole forced them to change the plans.
The movie was directed by Espen Sandberg |
This intrigued me until I saw the trailer. I found myself clenching my teeth one too many times during the second half. Who dreams of going to The North Pole?!
ReplyDeleteThat was my thought as well, what is exactly the point of going there or climbing Himalayas? Waste of money and lives.
DeleteI guess we have many people who enjoy testing their limits or find life too blah without adventures. I am not one of them, but I enjoy sitting at home and watching them do it :-))
DeleteYes, but imagine being a parent who dedicated his life raising a child and worrying every moment of it of his child's wellbeing only to see that child climb Everest and die there.
DeleteNow these two movies seem right up my alley.
ReplyDeleteThat is just one movie, not two LOL
DeleteDon't think I've watched literally any of these actors & actresses before... 😏 Doesn't have to be a bad thing, though! 🤷♂️
ReplyDeleteThey starred before in Oscar nominated Kon Tiki. Nordic people are the hottest ever :)
DeleteI can see gathering a team for research to less than safe places, but just to say you're the first one to reach it? Ridiculous. Like you said, a waste of money and a waste of life.
ReplyDeleteIt boggles the mind indeed. One of our citizens here died a few years ago climbing Everest. God rest his soul, but what a daft idiot....
DeleteSo many idiots take unnecessary risks. I suppose it's nature's way of weeding the stupid people out of the gene pool.
DeleteAnd did you know that they waste other people's money to die like that? Just permits for climbing Everest cost something like $100,000 or more. The authorities there are like - if we will be getting up with choppers to find their dead bodies we better get money for it in advance LOL
DeleteThe tax payers shouldn't have to foot the bill for their foolishness, so I'd demand such high payment up front as well. I hear that on the climbs sometimes they are stepping over dead bodies. Like, how can you continue such a climb when you are stepping over bodies of those who didn't make it. If that isn't a sign you're an idiot, then I don't know what is.
DeleteEspecially as they're wasting money from other people, money that can be used to feed the kids.
