THE RAILWAY MAN PICTURES
COLIN FIRTH, NICOLE KIDMAN, JEREMY IRVINE, SAM REID
Check out the first pictures from the intense war drama movie THE RAILWAY MAN which is scheduled to premiere this month at Toronto Film Festival. During World War II, Eric Lomax (played by Colin Firth and Jeremy Irvine in his youth) is a British officer who is captured by the Japanese in Singapore and sent to a POW camp, where he is forced to work on the Thai-Burma Railway. During his time in the camp he is tortured by an officer and meets a fellow POW (played by Ben Rossberg). Years later, and still suffering the psychological trauma of his wartime experiences, Lomax is persuaded by his wife Patti (Nicole Kidman) to find and confront one of his captors. Accompanied by his best friend (played by Stellan Skarsgard and Sam Reid in his youth), Lomax returns to the scene of his torture and manages to track down his captor, Japanese officer Takashi Nagase (played by Hiroyuki Sanada), from the prison camp, in an attempt let go of a lifetime of bitterness and hate!
NEW BOOK ADAPTATIONS
JO BAKER'S 'LONGBOURN'
When it comes to book adaptations, two news today: Deadline reports that Angela Workman, known for her work on SNOWFLOWER AND THE SECRET FAN, will adapt one of our fellow blogger Jo Baker's, yet to be released, novel LONGBOURN that reimagines Jane Austen’s 'Pride And Prejudice' from the point of view of the servants at the Bennet family estate.
THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS
And over at Dreamworks they've given Derek Cianfrance (THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES) the helm behind the adaptation of THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS novel by M.L. Stedman which is set right after WW2 and follows a lighthouse keeper and his wife who find a boat washed ashore on their remote Australian island with a dead man and a baby girl inside. They choose to bury the body and raise the child as their own, with devastating consequences.

Oh man, I haven't been to the movies in what feels like forever.
ReplyDeleteme neither, I Torrent all my movies and shows...
DeleteHey, I couldn't remember if you were no coupons or just some. I would miss coupons if I couldn't use them. It's like a giant puzzle of savings. A fun little hobby, at that.
Deleteyep, it would save our lives here, since we live in a very poor country with very high prices :(
DeleteI'm not for sure where you live, but I've read about UK couponers. So is it just certain areas that don't get coupons?
DeleteAnd if you did have one and went to the store? Would they not take it?
I live in Serbia, dear, Southern Europe...
DeleteWhat a bummer because I think you'd be killer good at couponing.
Deletewell, what can you do...
Delete"Longbourn" has an interesting premise! And speaking of Mr. Darcy, sounds like my long Colin Firth drought will soon be ending -- looking forward to The Railway Man!
ReplyDeleteshould be a good one, hope we get a trailer soon, I couldn't find even clips at YouTube!
DeleteSo many good stories! I love the premise of The Railway Man. That could be intense. And I'm really looking forward to The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. I think that's going to be a good one with all the great special effects. :)
ReplyDeleteYep, I reckon I will like the scenes from their youth better, since I love both Sam Reid and Irvine.
DeleteDid you know that Jim Carrey was originally meant for Mitty?
Oh, glad they didn't go with Carrey. He would have been right maybe ten years ago, but I like Stiller in the role. He has that right every man quality for Walter Mitty. And he directed too, right?
Deletehe did. And Carrey just isn't believable in dramatic roles.
DeleteHmm. Can I take Ben Stiller seriously? I don't know if I can. I'm so used to him being a goofball that I don't want to see him in a role where he's all dramatic.
ReplyDeletegood thing that the film will be tenderly dramatic... I don't like the presence of Penn and Wigg in the cast. they don't have the warmth for such a movie...
DeleteMitty I'm curious to see this movie, general Ben Stiller made beautiful movies .
ReplyDeleteit should be a heartwarming one, Vincent!
DeleteYIKES! What did they do to Colin's face????
ReplyDeletenature took its toll :) He aint young anymore, you know?
DeleteNo! He can't look THAT bad!!!
Deletewas he ever looking dashing? :P
DeleteLongbourn sounds interesting! I always like to hear a different angle on a good story.
ReplyDeleteI think ladies will like that one :)
DeleteI loved the book, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. I bet the movie will be great!
ReplyDeletefingers crossed, Sherry
DeleteI like a good war movie and never heard of "Railway Man," but I hope it does get released in the U.S. and does well at TFF. For some reason, I'm surprised that Sean Penn is in the Walter Mitty movie, given that it seems like a comedy (or is it not? Ben Stiller is in it, so I just thought it would be funny) and I usually see him as more of a serious dude. The last I saw of Penn was in "Fair Game" about the CIA agent lady. I'm not familiar with the Walter Mitty book. I hope it's good...the movie, that is :)
ReplyDelete~Nicole
I hope so too, Nicole, we really do more heartwarming films in today's world of dark movies...
DeleteYEA, a Ben Stiller movie!!! Love that guy!
ReplyDeletehe is a funny one
DeleteThe Mitty movie looks really good. Thanks for the info.
ReplyDeleteglad you like it, Breena
DeleteI don't know if I will see Mitty. I saw the secret life of Mitty Romney last year and it was terrible.
ReplyDeleteThat Mitty is terribly disgusting...
DeleteI'll be interested to see Mitty?
ReplyDeletewhy not, Ray!
DeleteColin Firth ... I do love, Colin Firth!
ReplyDeleteMost ladies do :)
DeleteLongbourn sounds like an interesting twist.
ReplyDeleteAnd love that Colin Firth.....
I think ladies will love those two projects
DeleteMitty has a lot of potential. I'm looking forward to it.
ReplyDeletea Christmas present for cinemagoers
DeleteI used to be so on top of movie news back when I worked in theaters, but I didn't know about any of these. The Railway Man and Walter Mitty both sound intriguing in their own ways.
ReplyDeleteShannon at The Warrior Muse
well, people usually hear for the first time about most movies and shows here at HOLLYWOOD SPY :)
DeleteNot a Ben Stiller fan but everything else looks wonderful - especially The Light Between the Oceans and The Railway Man.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to hear the casting for LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS!
