THE LAUNCH OF THE EPIC SERIES
Just two more days people, two days before the biggest epic fantasy TV adventure of 2016 starts on the small screens with the two hour premiere episode of MTV's THE SHANNARA CHRONICLES on Tuesday January 5th! The ten episode series will bring us the television adaptations of Terry Brooks' best selling fantasy saga following the elves and trolls of Shannara!

THE STORY OF ELVES
The most expensive series in MTV's history follows the inhabitants of the Four Lands, a place set thousands of years into the future where cataclysmic war among humans has yielded a new order after wiping out most of the humans, leaving various troll, dwarf, elf and other species to battle one another and a set of demonic presences in a place called the Forbidding. The lead characters are Wil Ohmsford (Austin Butler), a healer who suddenly discovers his powers, and Amberle Elessedil (Poppy Drayton), who becomes one of the Chosens (guardians of a mystical tree that provides peace in their lands), and sets on a quest outside her elfin kingdom, where she will meet Wil. They will be joined by outlawed scavenger Eretreia (Ivana Baquero). Daniel Macpherson and John Rhys Davies also star in John Favreau directed and produced series.

 Austin Butler leads the cast in the lead role of Wil Ohmsford - half human and half elf - who discovers that he is the last of the legendary Shannara family.

Elven princess, agile, fit and capable, she has become the first female to be accepted as one of the Chosen, the special group of Elves responsible for the protection and care of the ancient Ellcrys tree. But unlike the rest of the Chosen, Amberle’s dangerous and heroic journey is just beginning.

A young woman from the wrong side of the tracks who’s been forced touse her beauty and wits to survive. She’s a human who has been raised in a den of thieves known as the Rovers. MANU BENNET IS ALLANON
 Manu Bennett from HOBBIT and SPARTACUS will play a powerful druid named Allanon, the last of his kind. He is preserving the knowledge of ancient times as a practitioner of the mystic arts.

It seems that gorgeous movie star Jennifer Lawrence is a bit sick of epic adventures so she is turning over to romantic movies. While she is currently shooting sf romance THE PASSENGERS (in which she is the only awaken traveller on a space ship together with Chris Pratt) she will take on the lead role in the big screen adaptation of Graeme Simsion's THE ROSIE EFFECT. The movie titled THE ROSIE PROJECT will revolve around a socially anxious, awkward professor who formulates a survey to find the perfect partner. His stringently tested plans are thrown off track when he meets Rosie Jarman (Jennifer Lawrence), whose personality goes against every requisite his survey demands.

The first very long and unexpectedly stunning trailer for MTV's epic TV series THE SHANNARA CHRONICLES has been revealed and it seems our worries that MTV might do it wrong weren't justified, at least judging from the first scenes and mind blowing sets and visuals! Arriving to the small screens next January, the television adaptation of Terry Brooks popular epic fantasy novels will follow Elven princes and princesses trying to save the post apocalyptic world fighting with Humans against Demons. The ten episode first season has been shot over at New Zealand so the look is very reminiscent of LORD OF THE RINGS movies. Manu Bennett, Poppy Drayton, John Rhys Davies, Ivana Baquero, Daniel MacPherson lead the cast!

IT'S A LOVELY DAY FOR EXORCISM

Now, you know we don't do horrors, but this is a new movie from our dear friend Shaun Smith who was special make up effects supervisor on EXETER (in UK THE ASYLUM) a new horror thriller out this August in cinemas! With the cast lead by Stephen Lang and directed by Marcus Nispel (PATHFINDER, CONAN THE BARBARIAN) the movie revolves around a group of young people who, after a party in an abandoned asylum, accidentally release an evil spirit that starts to possess them one by one.

Beside reading the interview we did with Shaun Smith earlier, check out what Marcus Nispel had to say on his cooperation with the ultra talented special make up effects supervisor: Shaun impressed me with the work that he did on 300 and we've worked together ever since CONAN. He does the most amazingly realistic masks and prosthetics and he designs creatures that would blow you away, but what makes me pilgrimage to him again and again is his conceptual understanding and methodology when it comes to something that we are both firm believers in: camera effects. Too many movies look like blown up video games these days. On the set actors, stunt men, puppeteers, people pulling wires, applying make up, prosthetics, smoke and mirrors all need to work in concert and when we are staging a “Big Kill” Shaun is King. He comes up with many production savvy ideas that make a impossible budget possible. It is Shaun’s infinite ingenuity and flexibility that brings it all together. I consult with him before I embark on a project and our relation is a relation of great trust and faith in each other.

In other news from the epic series front today, after hitting success with MARCO POLO historical series, which is getting its second season, Netflix is planning another adventure series: they will adapt LEGEND OF ZELDA popular video game into epic series! This light hearted swords and sorcery saga revolves around an ordinary boy named Link who must save Princess Zelda and her fantasy world Hyrule. Netflix will work closely with Nintendo on the possible development of this project.

We did lost track of the casting process for BEN HUR remake after the choices have turned out to be rather bland, but now they have a very interesting choice for the role of Jesus: according to 'The Hollywood Reporter' 300's Persian Emperor Xerxes Rodrigo Santoro could take the role! The epic drama will follow Judah Ben-Hur (Jack Huston), a prince in Jerusalem who is betrayed and sold into slavery. The story of his redemption runs parallel to the life and crucifixion of Jesus!. Morgan Freeman will be Ildarin who teaches BEN HUR how to drive chariots, Sofia Black D'Elia will play Ben-Hur's sister Tirzah, Toby Kebbell is Messala who sells him to slavery, HOMELAND's Nazanin Boniadi is BEN HUR's love interest Esther, while GAME OF THRONES' star Pedro Pascal is Pontius Pilate.

In TV news, first info is that LORD OF THE RINGS star John Rhys Davies has joined SHANNARA epic fantasy series in which he will play King Eventine, Amberle’s (Poppy Drayton) grandfather, who has ruled the Elvin kingdom of Arborlon for decades!
NOAH REID IS 'KEVIN FROM WORK'
Over at ABC Family they have found lead stars for their two new sitcoms. First up is KEVIN FROM WORK in which  Noah Reid will play Kevin, an adorable but lonely young man unlucky in love who professes his love to his beautiful and quirky co-worker Audrey (Paige Spara), thinking he’ll never see her again after he accepts a job offer overseas. But then that job offer is rescinded and now they have to continue to work with each other. Matt Murray will be his best friend and confidant who is also a bit of a prankster; he’s always giving Kevin the not smartest advice.
SHOSHANA BUSH IS 'TOUGH COOKIE'
The other one is TOUGH COOKIE centring around a young mother who isn’t ready to parent and her daughter who doesn’t want to be parented. Shoshana Bush will play the lead role of Lilla, a strong-willed, successful publicist who got pregnant at a young age by a man she loved who dumped her, and she gave her baby girl up for adoption so she wouldn’t have to be reminded of him ever again. Now, she learns that her daughter, Eleanor, is slated for another round of foster care unless Lilla gives her a chance in a three-day trial that neither of them is looking forward to. Definitely not mother material, Lilla is shocked to see so much of herself in the outspoken, confident, take-no-prisoners Eleanor, and to her surprise, she doesn’t want Eleanor to go. Arturo del Purto will be Mickey, one of Lilla’s roommates, a neurotic hipster and something of a neat freak.

In other quick TV updates, beside the info that Netflix has ordered the second season of MARCO POLO epic series, they have also set March 6 date for UNBREAKABLE KIMMY SCHMIDT sitcom and May 8 for GRACE & FRANKIE sitcom with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin! And over at CW they have hired another SPARTACUS star, Liam McIntyre to star in THE FLASH! Mark returns to Central City to get justice for his brother’s untimely death and uses his powers, similar to Clyde’s, to go on a rampage and find the man that shot Clyde.
