FELLOW TRAVELERS
PAIRS UP JONATHAN BAILEY AND MATT BOMER AS LOVE COUPLE!
Well, that couple will be hot as hell! Matt Bomer's mini TV series FELLOW TRAVELERS over at Showtime has just added Jonathan Bailey as his lover (he is gay in real life too, last time I heard he was with Hugh Skinner). Bomer is handsome and charismatic Hawkins Fuller who avoids emotional entanglements – until he meets Tim Laughlin (Bailey), a young man brimming with idealism and religious faith. They begin a romance just as Joseph McCarthy and Roy Cohn declare war on “subversives and sexual deviants,” initiating one of the darkest periods in 20th-century American history. Over the course of four decades, Hawk and Tim cross paths through the Vietnam War protests of the 1960s, the drug-fueled disco hedonism of the 1970s and the AIDS crisis of the 1980s, while facing obstacles in the world and in themselves.
CATHERINE THE GREAT
FIRST SEASON TWO PHOTOS
And your epic treat for today are first photos from the second season of Russian historical series CATHERINE THE GREAT (Velikaya - not to be confused with their rival series CATHERINE II in which the tzarina was played by Marina Aleksandrova and which already had two seasons). Kinopoisk was the first to show footage with Elizabeth Boyarskaya in the role of older Catherine II from the sequel to the series "Catherine the Great".
The first part, where Julia Snigir played the Empress, was released in 2015. Now the action takes place in 1763, the first year after the coronation of Catherine. The series also stars Anton Khabarov (Grigory Orlov), Alexei Morozov (Gregory Potemkin), Pavel Vorozhtsov (Nikita Panin), Alexey Filimonov (Lev Naryshkin), Igor Gordin (Alexey Bestuzhev), Sofia Sinitsyna (Ekaterina Dashkova) and Philip Ershov (future Emperor Paul).
Filming is currently taking place in palaces, parks and mansions of St. Petersburg and Leningrad region, as well as on the ship "Poltava". The project involves more than 560 historical costumes, which were sewn and rented in Spain and the Czech Republic. Mars Media is working on the 12-episode second season ordered by Russia's Channel One.
Thought Matt Bomer is married to Simon Halls and have 3 kids? No? The world is for sure changing...
ReplyDeleteHe is and they do, it is Jonathan Bailey who is with Hugh Skinner :)
DeleteI'm so glad they finally got to do a second part. Although I'll miss Julia, Velikaia deserved a longer story. Right now, people in USA can watch Velikaia (and Ekaterina) totally free and with English subtitles either in Tubi or Ytube donde también pueden verla en otros paises .
ReplyDeleteIt has been such a long time that I cannot even remember the difference between that one and the other one which I know I did watch LOL Even the actresses that play empress Elizaveta in both series look borderline identical.
DeleteYesss, the two actresses did look alike. Obviously, Ekaterina was a much more involved show since it had three seasons, Velikaya only one, but Ekaterina’s last season was devoted entirely to Pugachev and Princess Tarakanova. Velikaya was, from an aesthetic point of view, more elegant, emphasis on pastels, delicate lighting. Ekaterina had coarser vibrant colors, was much more dynamic, it took place in many different settings and countries. Both were lovely but they complemented each other. in Velikaya we saw Catherine’s relationship with princess Dashkova. She did not appear in Ekaterina. In Velikaya we saw in detail the romance of the empress with Poniatowski, the birth of their daughter and how her death broke her. In Ekaterina’s second season, Poniatowski appears from nowhere and talks about visiting little Anna’s grave, if I hadn’t seen Velikaya I wouldn’t know what that was about.
ReplyDeleteDo we have that third season on YouTube because I do not remember watching it? I have noticed that Russian audience is not thrilled with this new actress replacing Marina as they say she is not talented, but we shall have to wait and see. I'm a bit sick of Catherine, we've seen so much about her in recent years. But at least Russians have made series on almost all of their biggest rulers in last twenty years, we only need one about Peter the Great although he was present last year in Cathedral series (Sobor). Maybe they could do one on his wify Catherine I who was the first ever Russian tzarina, but she is not that interesting as she was weak as a ruler and did not even protect her daughters tzarinas Anushka and Elizaveta.
DeleteI watched the Third season in Tubi. It is only in Russian in YT. But it is free in Amazon. I left you two links, see if you can get inside. This is definitely the year of queens and you under what would be the next biopic. Russia has covered her greatest empresses and emperors (Ivan the Terrible has landed on Tubi, so I have something to watch in August), all that is left is rather boring. Martha (Peter’s wife) was a charwoman, a bit on the vulgar side and a lush, an empress by accident. No need to see her.
DeleteNo, the Russians are the only ones to get into Catherine, her psyche, and her mind. Those Anglo attempts have been laughable (and in The Great) obscene.
Time to make our bets about which kings and queens should make it to streaming next. Great Britain ha also run out of good candidates. Although there is talk of making something about Eleonore of Aquitaine. I saw you were translating something on her, quite a character.
The Great got Emmy noms again, I find it so offensive and scandalous, both the noms and the series itself.
DeleteShows on Eleonor were announced many times before but never went into production. The books is amazing, it is from a Spanish writer, very well written and you know how interesting she was as a character. The king sends his men to rape her at age 8, she has to keep quiet about it so that Aquitaine would not go to them, but then marries his son and becomes the queen to destroy their family from within, a life born for TV series LOL
Indeed, since she has only appeared in older version in The Lion in Winter. The Emmy Award is a sewer
DeleteI actually have Lion in Winter, amazing series, but I cannot find the right subs for years now LOL I loved the gay romance between Richard and French dauphin in it.
DeleteAre you talking about the Sir Patrick Stewart-Glen Close TV movie? I’ve never seen it. Jonathan Rhys Mayers played the Dauphin.
DeleteI saw the Katherine Hepburn version with Sir Antony Hopkins playing Richard and Timothy Dalton as Philippe II
Yes, that one, you must watch it if you can find it as it is really outstanding not just Glen and Patrick but also the chemistry between Rhys Meyers and then still very young Andrew Howard was insane, like I literally needed my smelling salts. Unlike the old version which is a classic historical epic, this one is more of an acting masterclass and a battle of outrageous talent.
DeleteI haven't seen Matt Bomer since Magic Mike! (Not that I'm complaining about that.. LOL)
ReplyDeleteYou don't like him?
DeleteI do like him. I meant that I enjoyed watching him in Magic Mike.
DeleteThat might be too much hotness for one screen! Jax, how can you not like Matt? He’s adorable. What was the tv series he was in? White Collar, maybe? I liked that show. I think he played a jerk in magic mike, maybe that’s why you’re not feeling him.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen Magic Mike which is rather shocking.
DeleteYou must see Magic Mike right away!!
DeleteMatt Bomer was in Chuck. Which, he also he also played a jerk. lol
I cannot imagine him as a jerk.
DeleteYou need to fix that, pronto! It's a stupid movie, but ohh la la, there is eye candy for days there.
ReplyDeleteI do love Alex Pettyfer and would mind seeing his magic.
