PREMIUM SPOTLIGHT ON RUSSIAN 19TH CENTURY COSTUME SERIES DETECTIVE ANNA WHICH YOU CAN FIND ON AMAZON PRIME!

    'DETECTIVE ANNA'
FROM 19TH CENTURY MOSCOW!
You can catch Anna over at Amazon Prime
I forgot to mention this one before, but better late than never, especially as you can still catch the first season (a mammoth one with more than 50 episodes) of Russian period set series DETECTIVE ANNA over at Amazon Prime! Shot in 2016 and 2017, it stars young and captivating Aleksandra Nikiforova as a nineteenth century female detective in Imperial Russia! A whole little town was constructed for the purpose of the shooting near Moscow with streets filled with shops, palaces, mansions. A TV movie which would answer everything that was left unanswered after the end of the series was also announced, and
The series aired for a whole consecutive year at Russian television
earlier last winter Russian national television also started airing prequel series THE SECRETS OF MRS KIRSANOVA starring Olga Lerman. I might spotlight that one soon as well! The character of Anna is based on a real
A whole city with palaces, shops and a police station was built for the series
person, Russian noblewoman, religious philosopher, occultist and spiritualist Elena Blavatsky who, in the second half of the 19th century, founded the Theosophical Society. Many contemporaries considered her clairvoyant!

  THE STORY OF THE SERIES
Nineteen year old Anna, living at the end of the nineteenth century in the town of Zatonsk, unexpectedly discovers that she possesses supernatural powers.
Aleksandra Nikiforova plays the lead role of clairvoyant Anna
The spirits of the dead literally haunt her, begging to help. Aided by her visions, Anna manages to investigate and solve a number of mysterious crimes
I think that you can also find most of the episodes at YouTube
which have baffled the police. An experienced detective, 37 year old Yakov Shtolman (Dmitriy Frid), who chances to visit the town, teams up with Anna and becomes her partner in hunting down criminals.

  1. Too many episodes ("more than 50"..)!!
Anyway, perhaps the Russians are going to teach here the Brits a thing or two about detective drama, costumes, acting, filming.

    1. It was aired a few days a week, thus so many episodes. Yep, Russians almost always have better production both for films, series and even music videos.

    2. And of course it' s in Amazon that I have no access to...Whereas, Netflix brings garbage like "Trotsky" or "The Last Czars".

    3. You should get Amazon as they also have Godunov and Sofia :) and also most of your Spanish series, methinks.

  3. 50 episodes? And here we are complaining that our seasons only have 8 episodes. It does sound like one I'll have to add to my Amazon watch list, though I have many others to catch up on over there before I dive into this one.

    1. I remember Turkish series, which sometimes have up to forty or fifty episodes, but each of them lasts for two and a half hours as they air them as all night entertainment! They shoot them just a few weeks or months ahead of airing and each episode is shot in just a few days even though it lasts like a very long movie.

    2. That's quite impressive to get that much film shot in such a short amount of time. It takes me like 5 years to shoot and edit a 30 second clip. Then again, I don't know what the hell I'm doing when it comes to video, so maybe that's my problem.

    3. That actress that played sultana Hurem in Suleiman the Magnificent actually quit in the middle of the show because she could not handle all day and night shootings. But, admittedly, she was paid about 20,000 buck for an episode.

    4. For that kind of money, I’d work until my body dropped.

    1. It does not have a second season, just a prequel series which I mentioned in the post, Mrs Kirsanova, but I don't know if that one will be available on streaming services.
