NEW TV SERIES ADAPTATION IMAGES FROM NETFLIX

With Florence Pugh and Christopher Abbott in the lead roles, Netflix has announced October 1st as the streaming date for their new  EAST OF EDEN mini series adaptation of Steinbeck's classic novel produced by Zoe Kazan, whose grandad Elia directed the original film! Also starring in the new series adaptation are Ciaran Hinds, Mike Faist (in the role originally played by James Dean) and Hoon Lee. 

WHAT IS THE SERIES ABOUT?

 Set in California’s Salinas Valley over a period that stretches from the Civil War to the end of World War I, the epic novel tells the interconnected stories of the Hamilton family, an Irish immigrant family with nine children, and the Trask family, lead by the wealthy Adam Trask (to be played by Abbott in the seven part series). The story eventually narrows its focus to center around the Trask family and the drama surrounding Adam, his wife Cathy and their sons Cal and Aron. Florence Pugh will star in Garth Davis directed movie as Nora Seed, who finds herself in a library between life and death with the chance to experience all the potential lives she could have lived. 

 

THE MAP OF LONGING TV SERIES 

New series will stream from July 17th

Netflix has, meanwhile, issued the first trailer for their TV series adaptation of THE MAP OF LONGING based on the novel by Alice Kellen, about Greta, a young woman who has always believed that her reason for existing was to help her sister Lucy, who suffers from leukemia, through her stem cells. However, everything falls apart when Lucy dies, leaving her with a deep sense of emptiness and unsure of what to do with her life. Before passing away, Lucy leaves behind a game that pushes Greta to confront her pain and rethink who she really is. Along the way, Greta meets Will, an enigmatic boy with a troubled past. Can you love someone if you haven’t first learned to love yourself? The series arrives July 17th.

Paramount Plus has officially ordered a ten episode return of classic multicam sitcom FRASIER with Kelsey Grammer as psychiatrist and radio host Frasier Crane. After starting in Boston within Cheers and moving to Seattle in Frasier, he will now move to a new city and will be surrounded by new characters, with original Frasier cast members not appearing as series regulars but making guest appearances. The show won 37 Emmys in 11 seasons.

It is still in very early stages of production, but rumour has it that Netflix is turning EAST OF EDEN novel from John Steinbeck into a mini series to be directedby Zoe Kazan whose grandad Elia directed the original movie adaptation. Florence Pugh is apparently attached to star in the story set in California’s Salinas Valley over a period that stretches from the Civil War to the end of World War I. As Variety reports, the epic novel tells the interconnected stories of the Hamilton family, an Irish immigrant family with nine children, and the Trask family, lead by the wealthy Adam Trask. The story eventually narrows its focus to center around the Trask family and the drama surrounding Adam, his wife Cathy and their sons Cal and Aron. Back in the 80s there was also a TV adaptation with Jane Seymour while the four time Oscar nominated movie version had James Dean as the lead.

In our favourite period set genre news today, after her critically acclaimed role in Lady Macbeth (which wasn't overly great if you ask me, though), Florence Pugh is returning to the big gowns and historical costumes in THE WONDER a big screen adaptation of Emma Donoghue's novel with director Sebastian Lelio behind the helm. To start shooting in Ireland this August, it will have the story set in Irish Midlands, 1859 and follows an English nurse, Lib Wright (Florence Pugh), who is summoned to a tiny village to observe what some are claiming as a medical anomaly or a miracle – a girl said to have survived without food for months. Tourists have flocked to the cabin of eleven year old and a journalist has come down to cover the sensation. The Wonder is a tale of two strangers who transform each other’s lives, a psychological thriller, and a story of love pitted against evil. Stay tuned for more casting news on the project.
