According to Deadline, Chris Cottam is set to direct dance movie THE LIGHT FANTASTIC with Jeremy Irvine as Jason, a thirty-something gay firefighter who dreams of becoming a professional ballroom dancer. Set in the vibrant heart of Blackpool, Jason battles the rigid traditions of the ballroom world under the close watch of his ultra-traditional instructor Reynolds (Rupert Everett), while embarking on a journey of self-discovery, he is learning to listen to his heart before he can truly dance to its rhythm. Nathan Stewart-Jarrett will also star.

Earlier this month I gave you a list of holiday treats over at Netflix, and one of them was THE MERRY GENTLEMEN which arrives to Netflix November

The movie will stream from November 20th

20th with Britt Robertson and Chad Michael Murray in the lead roles and today we have the trailer for it. To save her parents' small-town performing venue, a former big-city dancer decides to stage an all-male, Christmas-themed revue. Chad Michael Murray plays one of the dancers in the film that also has Beth Broderick, Michael Gross, Maxwell Caulfield, Hector David Jr., Colt Prattes and Marc Anthony Samuel in the cast. The story of a steamy musical revue that just might save Christmas was directed by Peter Sullivan (Secret Obsession) and written by Marla Sokolof. See the trailer below and tell us what you think.

There are a couple of new period set series coming from Spain presented at this year's Mipcom in Cannes and I will present them to you in the coming days, starting with LA FAVORITA 1922 seven episode mini TV series which will launch sometime next year. Love, intrigue, humor and a touch of thriller come together in a carefully crafted production. It will air next year on Telecinco.

 

  SERIES SET IN MADRID

 follows Seville’s Marquise Elena de Valmonte (Veronica Sanchez), who battles to turn an abandoned restaurant into the capital’s finest eating establishment. With the story set in the 1920s, Marquise Elena de Valmonte explores her passion for cooking, as a means of evading her authoritarian husband. An incident makes her and maid Cecilia (Raquel Querol) fugitives. They reopen an abandoned restaurant as 'La Favorita Bistro'. Luis Fernández stars as Julio, the owner of the premises. Andrea Duro, Maribel Salas, Elena Maroto give life to Ana, Lourdes, Rosa, employees of the restaurant; Fernando Cayo as César, the father-in-law of Elena Valmonte; Joel Sánchez in the skin of Roberto, waiter and friend of Julio; Javier Lago and Manuel de Andrés as the mobster Don Benito and his henchman Armando; and Ángela Vega plays Consuelo,the owner of the fill-master.

According to Variety, ZDF Studios and BlackBox Multimedia will produce romantic comedy drama THE LITTLE ITALIAN HOTEL based on the book by best-selling author Phaedra Patrick.

The feel-good romantic comedy is set in the idyllic Italian region of Umbria. Ginny Splinters is 50 and at the top of her game. Her advice show “Ginny Listens” is vying for the No.1 slot on the U.K.’s premier radio station and she has a self-help book about to be published. Her private life is equally glittering and to prove it, she’s booked a luxurious anniversary celebration in Italy with her husband, Adrian. But, during a live phone-in, a caller throws doubt on Adrian’s faithfulness and her perfect life comes crashing down. Accompanied not by her husband but by five equally heart-broken listeners, whose problems she has rashly vowed to solve, Ginny goes on a journey of self-discovery and learns that not all heartaches can be easily healed.

Coming from director Ladj Ly and Pathe, who scored huge success with movie versions of Alexandre Duma's Musketeers and Count of Monte Cristo, is a film on his father DUMAS: BLACK DEVIL which will also be an expensive, big budget historical epic. Thomas Alexandre Davy de la Pailleterie Dumas, was born a Caribbean slave in 1762 and beat the odds by rising through the ranks to become a revolutionary French general. The son of a nobleman, Marquis Alexandre Antoine Davy de la Pailleterie, and an African slave, Marie-Cessette Dumas, he became the first and highest ranking Black leader in the French military and served under Napoleon Bonaparte. But despite his many exploits, which earned him the nickname of “Black Devil,” his role in the French Revolution was underplayed and he was even denied a full pension and legion of honor by Bonaparte. Although he was not even 4 years old when his father died of stomach cancer, Alexandre Dumas cherished his legacy.

AT UKTV'S ALIBI REVEALS FIRST IMAGES

UKTV's Alibi channel has shot a new six episode series for 2025 from Mark Gatiss who also stars as a book shop-owning sleuth and we have the first images from it. Set in 1946 London BOOKISH will see him play the erudite and unconventional Gabriel Book, who helps the police to solve a variety of mysterious crimes from his antiquarian bookshop. With three main cases in the series, each storyline spans two episodes.

is the dynamic, dangerous and chaotic setting for this stylish new detective drama, with the eccentric Gabriel Book at the very heart of the story: a self-appointed consultant detective to the local police. The thousands of books that line the shelves of his shop provide him with all the knowledge he needs. Book has gathered around him a host of lovable, damaged misfits whom he informally protects, cajoles, and mentors. 

 

 WHO IS IN  THE CAST?

 Polly Walker will play his wife Trottie, a charismatic adventuress whom Book loves but not physically, for they are in a ‘lavender’ marriage to conceal Book’s sexual orientation in a time when it was illegal to be gay. Joely Richardson, Daniel Mays, Jonas Nay, Connor Finch, Elliot Levey and Buket Kömür also star. Blake Harrison joins the returning core cast members as Sergeant Morris, with Rosie Cavaliero, Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, Tom Forbes, Amanda Drew, Luke Norris, Ella Bruccoleri and Michael Workéyè.
