News coming from Ireland is that Gabriel Beristain has cast Jack Hudson as the lead in historical series THE RATH AND THE ROCK about 16th Century Irish chieftain Uaithne mac Ruairí Ó Mórdha. 
Jack Hudson will take the lead role
Hudson will play the charismatic and audacious Gaelic chieftain and rebel also known as Owney O’More in a sweeping story of the brutal Tudor Conquest of Ireland, spanning 1520 to 1653! The series will follow the fates of Irish Chieftains, English royals, ambitious nobles, the infamous pirate queen Grace O’Malley and the ordinary people caught in the crossfire. It will explore the intertwined destinies of pivotal Irish families, including the O’Mores, O’Neills, O’Donnells and O’Malleys, as they fight against the overwhelming forces of the Tudor monarchy!

CASTING NEWS: EMILY BLUNT TO LEAD WALK IN THE BLUE FIELDS LOVE MOVIE, CATE BLANCHETT TO STAR IN SWEETSICK FANTASY FILM

EMILY BLUNT IN WALK THE BLUE FIELDS
Some casting news with some of our favourite ladies, starting with Emily Blunt who has scored a lead role in WALK THE BLUE FIELDS based on a short story by Claire Keegan. Set in Ireland, the film will revolve around a woman faced with an impossible decision, when a past love triangle is almost uncovered on her wedding day. John Crowley will direct probably later this year or next year. Blunt is also producing the film.
 
CATE BLANCHETT IN SWEETSICK
Meanwhile, Cate Blanchett is set to topline a feature movie directorial debut of Alice Birch SWEETSICK. As Deadline reports, the fantasy movie, which Birch also wrote, follows a mercurial woman (Blanchett) with a strange and piercing gift – the ability to see what others most intimately need, often at great personal cost – who sets out on a journey home. The shooting will start as soon as this Autumn in the UK and Greece.

The Summer Book is out September 19th
 50 years ago, it follows nine-year-old Sophia (Emily Matthews) who spends the summers at her family’s seasonal home on a tranquil isle in the Gulf of Finland, but this will be the first summer without her mother. Her father (Anders Danielsen Lie) remains numbed by grief, while her grandmother (Glenn Close) guides her on a giddy, winding path towards young adulthood. With a sense of infinite possibility and a tender regard for the wonders of the natural world, Sophia and her grandmother explore the terrain, celebrate midsommar, and test the limits of faith in the face of life’s many storms. It is out September 19th in select theatres in North America.

MURDER BEFORE EVENSONG
A review of new mystery and detective series coming to the small screens this Autumn, starting with MURDER BEFORE EVENSONG in which Matthew Lewis plays Canon Daniel Clement, a rector, who finds himself entangled in a murder investigation after a cousin of the church's patron is discovered with a fatal stab wound inflicted by secateurs, leading him to unravel the mystery. The six episode series will hit Acorn TV September 29th after it premieres in UK on Channel 5. See trailer here
 
  LYNLEY WITH LEO SUTER
Already launched earlier this week over on BritBox is a new four episode remake of LYNLEY detective series in which our lovely Leo Suter plays DI Thomas Lynley who together with DS Barbara Havers forms an unlikely police detective duo. Their contrasting backgrounds create tension, but they unite to solve crimes, navigating class and gender issues. Tom Forbes and Daniel Mays also star in the series out from September 4th and you can see the trailer here.
 

NEW MAIGRET FROM PBS MASTERPIECE
Launching a bit later on, October 5th over at PBS Masterpiece is MAIGRET in which gorgeous Benjamin Wainwright plays Chief Inspector Maigret a rising star in the Paris Police Judiciaire, relentless in his investigations, with an uncanny ability to get under the skin of the criminals he is chasing and a matchless knowledge of Paris.  DEATH BY LIGHTNING OVER AT NETFLIX
Netflix is bringing us Matthew MacFadyen in their period set investigation series DEATH BY LIGHTNING which arrives November 6th also starring Michael Shannon, Betty Gilpin and Nick Offerman. This period set four episode drama dramatizes the stranger-than-fiction true story of 20th U.S. President James Garfield and admirer Charles Guiteau, who assassinated him. I will post the trailer when it is released.
 
 
THE RUMOUR FROM CHANNEL 5
British Channel 5 is ready to launch small town mystery thriller THE RUMOUR with Rachel Shenton from September 10th! She plays a mother who moves to a small town and gets entangled with a group of mothers. She exploits a rumor of a child predator living nearby, fueling gossip and heightening tensions while trying to safeguard her son amidst rising mistrust. See trailer here.

 THE STORY SET IN

GORGEOUS FIRST TRAILER FOR PBS AND CHANNEL 5 LAVISH NEW COSTUME DRAMA THE FORSYTES BASED ON FAMOUS SAGA BY JOHN GALSWORTHY

PBS Masterpiece and Mammoth Screen have unveiled stunningly gorgeous first teaser trailer for their new TV series version of famous The Forsyte Saga with six episodes based on John Galsworthy famous novel. THE FORSYTES will arrive to British Channel 5 this Autumn and then later on cross the ocean to visit American audience sometime next year on PBS Masterpiece which has already renewed the new costume drama for a second season.
 IN THE STORY THAT FOLLOWS
a rich British family in 1880s London Francesca Annis will play formidable Forsyte matriarch Ann. Stephen Moyer is Ann’s eldest son, Jolyon Senior, head of the family stockbroking firm Forsyte & Co.
