THE GILDED AGE SERIES SEASON 4 

In their latest exclusive reel of what to expect in the second part of the year, HBO Max has unveiled, among others, first look at the fourth season of their popular costume drama THE GILDED AGE which arrives sometime this year and the trailer below shows Bertha dancing with her husband smiling which might mean the troubles in their marital paradise are over?  After Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon) changed society at a cost, her family must reckon with the consequences while Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski) seizes in the new season an opportunity to regain her position. Meanwhile, Marian (Louisa Jacobson) forges a new path for herself, and Peggy (Denée Benton) works to be accepted by her future in-laws. There will also be a whole line of new characters in the fourth season.

 

THE WAR SERIES WITH DOMINIC WEST

HBO has also shared glimpses at their new six part thriller TV series WAR with Dominic West as tech titan Morgan Henderson and Sienna Miller as his estranged wife in a series that follows two of London’s most prestigious rival firms, Cathcarts and Taylor & Byrne, as they go head-to-head in the divorce case of the century. Each side is certain they’ll win. But as the case spirals and loyalties fracture, reputations are on the line, and everyone’s  playing to win. This is just the beginning as the series has been ordered for two seasons - season one’s explosive case is the first in an anthology of headline-making legal battles. Sky will air the series in UK. BBC has released a new trailer for their upcoming period set series SAS ROGUE HEROES coming from Steven Knight. The six-part series stars Connor Swindells, Jack O'Connell, Alfie Allen, Sofia Boutella, and Dominic West, in a dramatised account of how the SAS was formed under extraordinary circumstances in the darkest days of World War Two. Cairo, 1941. David Stirling (Swindells), an eccentric young officer, hospitalised after a training exercise went wrong, is bored. Convinced that traditional commando units don’t work, he creates a radical plan that flies in the face of all accepted rules of modern warfare. He fights for permission to recruit the toughest, boldest and brightest soldiers for a small undercover unit that will create mayhem behind enemy lines. More rebels than soldiers, Stirling’s team are every bit as complicated, flawed and reckless as they are astonishingly brave and heroic. The series starts October 30th on BBC One.

First trailer has been released for the big screen adaptation of Denis Johnson's novel STARS AT NOON which will hit cinemas October 14th starring Joe Alwyn and Margaret Qualley. This year Cannes Film Festival competitor, follows a young American journalist (Qualley), who falls for a mysterious Englishman (Alwyn) while stranded in Nicaragua (not during the revolution like in the novel, but during today's covid outbreak). Though at first he seems like her best bet at getting out of the country, it is slowly revealed that her affiliation with the Englishman has put both of them in immense danger. TV broadcaster RTL are planning an elaborate film and six part series adaptation of HAGEN von Tronje novel by Wolfgang Hohlbein which combines the Nibelung saga with elements from other myths following Hagen von Tronje, the dark warrior of the Nibelung saga, now a lonely hero, and the radiant Siegfried, now an unscrupulous upstart, a representative of an authoritarian form of government, supported by a new religion, Christianity. Driven to right the wrongs of their past, the young couple’s survival depends on their skills of seduction and manipulation of not only the French nobility but of each other. Alice Englert and Nicholas Denton portray the notorious lovers: Camille who is taken in by the current Marquise de Merteuil (Lesley Manville) navigates her own path in a world of men, using the power of secrets to take back control, and Valmont who will stop at nothing to regain his title that was recently taken from him. Their on- again off-again love story is the heart of the series. It’s not love… it’s war. I must admit those two youngsters look terribly dull and miscast to me, no passion nor talent in them.
