Straight from France comes the first trailer for a mix of fantasy and a period set movie THE BEAST which should be released February 28th next year after winning a number of festival awards. The film was originally supposed to star Gaspard Ulliel who sadly passed away.

THE MOVIE IS SET

in the near future where emotions have become a threat. Lea Seydoux plays Gabrielle who finally decides to purify her DNA in a machine that will immerse her in her previous lives and rid her of any strong feelings. She then meets Louis, played by George Mackay, and feels a powerful connection, as if she has known him forever. A melodrama crossed by the genre, which unfolds over three distinct periods, 1910, 2014 and 2044.

DANCE FIRST BIOPIC

A bunch of new movie images for you today, starting with Gabriel Byrne as Samuel Beckett in DANCE FIRST biopic on the Waiting for Godot writer. With him as the famous Irish playwright, Aidan Gillen plays James Joyce. Maxine Peake also stars and Sandrine Bonnaire too as his wife. The story covers various phases in Beckett’s life from Parisian bon vivant, to World War II Resistance fighter, Nobel Prize-winning playwright, philandering husband and recluse. Its focus, however, is on Beckett’s reaction to winning the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1969, which was a turning point in his life as he grappled with his own inner demons. 

DYSTOPIAN THE BEAST

We also have first photos from Venice Film Festival dystopian romance THE BEAST from Bertrand Bonello set in a near future where artificial intelligence reigns supreme and human emotions have become a threat. Gabrielle (Lea Seydoux), a woman haunted by an irrational fear, is being told that she must purify her DNA to heal from past traumas in order to get a proper job. Through the process, Gabrielle revisits past lives and immerses herself in buried memories from 1910 and 2014, where she reunites with Louis (George MacKay), her great love. While their bond has transcended lifetimes and eras, it’s also at the root of her premonition that something tragic will happen. Beside Venice, the movie will also hit Toronto, New York and London film festivals.

WORLD WAR 2 SET IRENA'S VOW

There are also first two images from World War Two set movie IRENA'S VOW coming from director Louise Archambault and with Dougray Scott in the lead role. The movie will premiere September 10th at Toronto Film Festival following the life of 19-year-old Irena Gut (Sophie Nélisse), a housekeeper at the home of a high-ranking Nazi officer in Poland who hides a dozen Jewish workers in the basement of the German major’s house after she learns that the Jewish ghetto is about to be liquidated. The story is based on the true life of  Polish nurse Irene Gut Opdyke who was awarded the Righteous Among the Nations medal for showing remarkable courage in her attempt to save Polish Jews during World War II.

Jencarlos Canela will lead the new sitcom

After cancelling One Day at a Time, Netflix has ordered a new Latino multicamera sitcom THE EXPANDING UNIVERSE OF ASHLEY GARCIA, which will have Jencarlos Canela leading the 16 episode season.

Created by Mario Lopez and Melissa & Joey producer Seth Kurland, if revolves around Ashley Garcia (as Deadline reports, she will be played by newcomer Paulina Chavez), the world’s only 15 and a half year old robotics engineer and rocket scientist, who gets the chance to work for NASA. She moves across the country to live with her fun loving Uncle Victor (Jencarlos Canela), a pro football player turned high school coach who’s never met a responsibility he can’t shirk.

This one has already finished its sail around most of the globe, but it will plunge into US and UK cinemas this June and July. THE COMMAND (also known as Kursk) has an international cast lead by Colin Firth, Matthias Schoenaerts, Max von Sydow and Lea Seydoux. Directed by Thomas Vinterberg (Far From the Madding Crowd) and based on a book by Robert Moore,  the film follows the 2000 K-141 Kursk submarine disaster and the governmental negligence that followed. As the sailors fight for survival, their families desperately battle political obstacles

Speaking of Lea Seydoux, the French actress will also join Joel Kinnaman in HORSEBOY drama, in which they will play Emily and Jonathan whose son Noah, is an autistic child. He rarely talks and isn't improving despite his parents' efforts to connect with him. Yet, there is a silver lining: Jonathan notices that Noah is more peaceful and seems more able to communicate while riding horses. It sparks a crazy idea: he will take his family for a ride through the Mongolian plains to meet shamans. The journey will be transformative. It is the powerful story of two parents' love for their child as they decide to take the biggest risk imaginable. As 'Deadline' reports today, while she's waiting to see if GHOSTBUSTERS will flop or fly, Melissa McCarthy has another new project just signed: she will lead CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME? based on Lee Israel memoir.

  Israel was a magazine writer and author in the 1970s and ’80s who specialized in profiles of big name entertainment figures. But when the work dried up, she turned to selling letters she had forged from dead writers and actors, and eventually she began stealing actual letters from various archives before she was arrested in 1993. She is no longer alive.

In the trailer department here's an international one for Lea Seydoux's DIARY OF A CHAMBERMAID set  in the early 1900s, in the French provinces. Célestine a beautiful and libertarian young woman, who has been hired as a chambermaid by the Lanlaires, arrives from Paris at the train station. Joseph, her masters' gruff gardener takes her to the house where she is to work. She is "welcomed" by Mr. Lanlaire who immediately starts fondling her. She then meets Mrs. Lanlaire, a very unpleasant woman with a class superiority. All this bodes ill for the future...

It seems that Lea Seydoux and Vincent Cassel will star together again after BEAUTY AND THE BEAST since they've been just cast in last year's Cannes winner Xavier Dolan's new movie IT'S ONLY THE END OF THE WORLD! Rounding up the stellar cast are Marion Cotillard and Gaspard Ulliel. As 'Deadline' reports, the movie follows a writer who, after 12 years of absence, goes back to his hometown, planning on announcing his upcoming death to his family. As resentment soon rewrites the course of the afternoon, fits and feuds unfold, fuelled by loneliness and doubt, while all attempts of empathy are sabotaged by people’s incapacity to listen, and love.

Yet another movie adaptation of a YA book will be the big screen version of  Daniel Water's BREAK MY HEART 1,000 TIMES which is going to star Hailee Steinfeld in the lead role. Described as a mix of 'The Fault In Our Stars' and 'The Sixth Sense' it is set after a cataclysmic event that has torn the barrier between our world and the next, leaving ‘Remnants’, ghost-like essences of the deceased, part of everyday life. After years of quiet coexistence with the living, a Remnant sends a threatening message to a young girl, propelling her on a mission with consequences that will forever change the course of her life. Scott Speer (STEP UP REVOLUTION) is directing!

Staying in the field of foreign films, check out a rather intriguing teaser for Oscar Winner Paolo Sorrentino's YOUTH which stars Michael Caine and Harvey Keitel as two longtime friends vacationing in the Swiss Alps. Caine plays Fred, an acclaimed composer and conductor and Keitel is Mick, a renowned filmmaker. While Mick scrambles to finish the screenplay for what he imagines will be his last important film, Fred has no intention of resuming his musical career. The two men reflect on their past, each finding that some of the most significant experiences can come later in life. Rachel Weisz, Jane Fonda and Paul Dano also star!
