New series starts September 9th

Come this September, Apple TV + is ready to serve us a new six part TV series LAST SEEN with Patrick Brammall in the lead role. Out September 9th with a two episode premiere, it will see him play police detective Ian Ridley whose life fell apart 11 years ago when his young daughter, Maggie, disappeared without a trace. Now working as a police dispatcher, the only thing that has kept him going is his implacable refusal to accept that she might be gone forever. When he receives a distress call from a teenage girl he is certain is Maggie, he will stop at nothing to find her and reunite his broken family, whatever the cost. Maxine Peake, Daniel Henshall, Brendan Cowell also star.

DANCE FIRST BIOPIC

A bunch of new movie images for you today, starting with Gabriel Byrne as Samuel Beckett in DANCE FIRST biopic on the Waiting for Godot writer. With him as the famous Irish playwright, Aidan Gillen plays James Joyce. Maxine Peake also stars and Sandrine Bonnaire too as his wife. The story covers various phases in Beckett’s life from Parisian bon vivant, to World War II Resistance fighter, Nobel Prize-winning playwright, philandering husband and recluse. Its focus, however, is on Beckett’s reaction to winning the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1969, which was a turning point in his life as he grappled with his own inner demons. 

DYSTOPIAN THE BEAST

We also have first photos from Venice Film Festival dystopian romance THE BEAST from Bertrand Bonello set in a near future where artificial intelligence reigns supreme and human emotions have become a threat. Gabrielle (Lea Seydoux), a woman haunted by an irrational fear, is being told that she must purify her DNA to heal from past traumas in order to get a proper job. Through the process, Gabrielle revisits past lives and immerses herself in buried memories from 1910 and 2014, where she reunites with Louis (George MacKay), her great love. While their bond has transcended lifetimes and eras, it’s also at the root of her premonition that something tragic will happen. Beside Venice, the movie will also hit Toronto, New York and London film festivals.

WORLD WAR 2 SET IRENA'S VOW

There are also first two images from World War Two set movie IRENA'S VOW coming from director Louise Archambault and with Dougray Scott in the lead role. The movie will premiere September 10th at Toronto Film Festival following the life of 19-year-old Irena Gut (Sophie Nélisse), a housekeeper at the home of a high-ranking Nazi officer in Poland who hides a dozen Jewish workers in the basement of the German major’s house after she learns that the Jewish ghetto is about to be liquidated. The story is based on the true life of  Polish nurse Irene Gut Opdyke who was awarded the Righteous Among the Nations medal for showing remarkable courage in her attempt to save Polish Jews during World War II.

Peterloo arrives tomorrow in Venice

Mirallegro and Rory Kinnear! An epic portrayal of the events surrounding the infamous 1819 Peterloo Massacre, where a peaceful pro democracy rally at St Peter's Field in Manchester turned into one of the bloodiest and most notorious episodes in British history. The massacre saw British government forces charge into a crowd of over 60,000 that had gathered to demand political reform and protest against rising levels of poverty. Many protesters were killed and hundreds more injured, sparking a nationwide outcry but also further government suppression. The Peterloo Massacre was a defining moment in British democracy which also played a significant role in the founding of The Guardian newspaper.

Period set delights for you today, beginning with photos arriving from the sets of Armando Iannucci's big screen version of THE PERSONAL HISTORY OF DAVID COPPERFIELD based on Charles Dickens’ semi autobiographical chronicle of the life of the iconic title character!  They show Dev Patel who takes the role of the titular hero.
