The movie is out this week over in France
week over in France helmed and adapted by Marc Dugain! Felix Grandet (Olivier Gourmet) reigns supreme in his modest house in Saumur where his wife and daughter Eugenie (Josephine Japy) lead a distraction free existence. Extremely avaricious, he does not take a favorable view of the beautiful parties who rush to ask for his daughter's hand. Nothing should damage the colossal fortune he hides from everyone. The sudden arrival of Grandet's nephew (Cesar Domboy), an orphaned and ruined Parisian dandy, turns the young girl's life upside down.

Sadly, the first reviews are not favourable, citing the flatness in acting and script and no chemistry between the stars which is rather obvious in the trailer itself.
French period set films are sometimes dreary as hell with dull actors and costumes and overly long time, but sometimes they can be nice too. I do much prefer Eiffel and Delicieux this year to this one.
Honestly, I agree with the reviews. There was nothing in the trailer that screamed "watch me". Like you, I'll stick to the other more interesting French pieces coming out this year.
I've noticed that the French will often cast the most dull actresses as leads in their shows and that has started happening with British shows as well. Like, in the old times, you had to have some kind of charisma, now they just pick them bland and lifeless.
Yes, that period was fugly costumewise! And I don't recall watching a French period set film with good costumes, their designers always make the dullest ones.
I'm watching their Voice currently and none of them knows how to dress properly, sadly, but then again I hate the revival of 80s in fashion with all my heart.
