CATE BLANCHETT IS GUARDIAN OF DRAGONS IN 'HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON II' NEW PICTURES WITH JAY BARUCHEL, GERARD BUTLER, DJIMON HOUNSOU! FIRST ENGLISH 'GRAND PIANO' TRAILER WITH ELIJAH WOOD AND JOHN CUSACK

'HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2'

CATE BLANCHETT IS GUARDIAN OF THE DRAGONS

Definitely one of the most anticipated 2014 movies is HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON II the sequel to the adorable animated adventure which will fly into theatres next June. Today you can check out the first picture of Cate Blanchett's character Valka, a mysterious guardian of the dragons. Directed by Dean DeBlois ('How to Train Your Dragon', 'Lilo & Stitch'), this sequel follows Toothless and Hiccup (Jay Baruchel ) five years down the road, as Hiccup heads towards adulthood while trying to hold onto those last few precious moments of his childhood. He is faced with a lot of new responsibilities, and is being groomed to eventually take over for his dad (Gerard Butler). But before that can happen, he sets off on one last adventure to the Arctic, where he stumbles upon Valka. A tough warrior, this woman is seen as a vigilante who springs dragons from traps, hiding them from a vicious dragon hunter by the name of Drago Bludvist (Djimon Hounsou) and his No. 2, Eret (Kit Harington).

DID YOU KNOW?

Cate Blanchett was offered the role at the Oscars' ceremony with Dean DeBlois approaching her right there at the red carpet. Her character can communicate with dragons in non verbal ways and is distrusting of humans. Unlike Hiccup's dragon Toothless who looks like a panther, Valka's dragon Cloudjumper looks more like an owl and has a second set of wings hidden under the main ones!

I've already shown you the Spanish version, but here is the first English trailer for GRAND PIANO thriller! SPOTLIGHT ON HISTORICAL WORLD WAR II ACTION DRAMA 'THE MONUMENTS MEN' WITH GEORGE CLOONEY, CATE BLANCHETT, JOHN GOODMAN, BILL MURRAY, HUGH BONNEVILLE, MATT DAMON, JEAN DUJARDIN!

THE MONUMENTS MEN

SAVING ART FROM THE NAZIS

Human lives are the most important, but how important are human achievements? In the times of peril and danger would you risk your life to save works of art, the cultural heritage nurtured and admired for hundreds of years, in order to save what the foundations of civilization and society are? This is what THE MONUMENTS MEN actually did in World War II and you will watch their story in historical action which opens up in cinemas next February starring George Clooney and Cate Blanchett!

MONUMENTAL STORY

 GREATEST ART HEIST IN HISTORY

Based on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history, THE MONUMENTS MEN is an action drama focusing on an unlikely World War II platoon, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys - seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 - possibly hope to succeed? But as THE MONUMENTS MEN, as they were called, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect mankind's greatest achievements.

MONUMENTAL TIDBITS

GEORGE CLOONEY & CATE BLANCHETT
Beside George Clooney and Cate Blanchett who lead the cast (this is their second time to act together in a war movie after THE GOOD GERMAN), the movie also has Bill Murray, John Goodman, French star Jean Dujardin, DOWNTON ABBEY star Hugh Bonneville and Matt Damon (the role was originally meant for Daniel Craig). THE MONUMENTS MEN are both directed and written by Clooney who based the story of the film on the book 'The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History' by Robert M. Edsel! Thousands of extras were used in some of the military scenes!

THE STORY OF TOMORROW

William "Bill" Cage (Tom Cruise) and Special Forces soldier Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt) team up to fight a hostile alien race known as Mimics, with Cage continually returning to a fatal battle through a time loop. The action of EDGE OF TOMORROW  unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world. In the beginning of the story, Cage (Tom Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again and again. But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces  warrior Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.

TOMORROW'S TIDBITS

Brad Pitt was originally eyed for the role! During the shooting of the film last year, Trafalgar Square in London was completely shut down to allow the production team to film shots for the movie.

BBC'S 'GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY' TRAILER WITH LUKE EVANS & JIM BROADBENT! BETTE MIDLER TO STAR IN HBO'S 'MAE WEST' BIOPIC! NEW BIBLICAL SERIES: 'KING DAVID' & 'THE DOVEKEEPERS' ON THE HISTORICAL SIEGE OF MASADA

BETTE MIDLER TO PLAY

MAE WEST IN AN HBO TV MOVIE

We're having a TV day today at HOLLYWOOD SPY: First, Deadline reports that Bette Midler will play legendary actress Mae West in a HBO biopic movie on the Hollywood diva. MAE WEST will be based on her autobiography 'Goodness Had Nothing To Do With It' and will follow West’s rise into stardom when she takes New York by storm after writing and starring in her scandalous Broadway show 'Sex' and battles authorities over obscenity charges. Instead of taking the road of a wide-eyed Hollywood ingénue, West forged her own path, writing and starring in her own risqué play which had her prosecuted and sentenced to 10 days in prison for “corrupting the morals of youth.” She signed her first Hollywood movie deal at 39 and then became one of the highest-grossing stars of the 1930s!

NEW BIBLICAL TV SERIES

'KING DAVID' EPIC DRAMA
In other television news today, we're getting two new Biblical TV series: EOne will produce KING DAVID one hour drama described as a “mafia show in biblical clothing” which focuses on the contradictory character of the legendary warrior-king and patriarch – a man who must make monstrous choices that betray his personal ideals and turn his family against him.
THE DOVE KEEPERS HISTORICAL SERIES
Meanwhile, CBS, together with THE BIBLE producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, will adapt THE DOVEKEEPERS historical novel by Alice Hoffman into a four hour mini series. The mini series will revolve around four extraordinary women whose lives intersect in a fight for survival at the siege of Masada! Masada is the mountaintop fortress near the Dead Sea where the Romans found the last pocket of resistance after they conquered Jerusalem in 70 AD.

BBC'S GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY

LUKE EVANS IN THE CRIME OF THE CENTURY

And something to look forward to next week is BBC One's new two part TV film THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY which will air December 18th in UK. Starring THE HOBBIT THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG,  IMMORTALS and DRACULA star Luke Evans alongside Jim Broadbent and Martin Compston, it will dramatise the 1963 Great Train Robbery from the perspective of its perpetrators and their pursuers! The first film, 'A Robber's Tale', focuses on Bruce Reynolds (Luke Evans) as he plans the now folkloric raid on a London-bound Royal Mail train that netted a then-record haul of £2.6 million. The second film 'A Copper's Tale', meanwhile, concentrates on DCS Tommy Butler (Jim Broadbent), the detective chief superintendent charged with bringing the robbers to justice. Both men are driven perfectionists who will stop at nothing to achieve the lofty goals they have set themselves. Reynolds was arrested only six years after the robbery and he then spent ten years in jail. The movie will include a scene with Luke Evans' naked bum too :)
