THE VILLAMIZARS
Here is a brand new costume series available on Netflix as of December 14th! THE VILLAMIZARS (Las Villamizar) is a 72 episode tele novella set in the midst of the Spanish Reconquest in 1816, and following three high society sisters on a mission to avenge their mother, killed by the Spanish army. The telenovela stars Shany Nadan, María José Vargas, and Estefanía Piñeres. You can also check out the rather dynamic, albeit a bit cheap looking, Spanish language trailer below as I did not manage to find one with English subtitles, sadly! Netflix has terrible marketing.
SET IN EARLY 1800s COLOMBIA
the
series follows Carolina, Leonor and Isabela, three sisters from the
high society of El Socorro. They join the Liberator Army as spies
motivated to pursue those responsible for the death of their mother,
Beatriz de Villamizar, at the hands of Captain José María Montenegro.
Gerardo Villamizar, using his military past within the Commoners
Movement, prepares his three daughters in different disciplines of
combat, infiltration and sabotage. The three sisters carry out missions
and assignments given to them by the Independence Army, and in return,
the army gives them information on the location of the culprits so that
they can intercept the murderers and accomplices of Montenegro and thus
bring justice.
I've always trusted Colombian telenovelas specially their period pieces but I cannot bring myself to watch this, perhaps the pictures of the sisters in samurai gear have something to do with it?
ReplyDeleteI find the casting very bizarre for some reason LOL It's been ages since I've seen a Latino telenovella. At some point they have been replaced by Turkish and Indian soaps in my country.
DeleteYou haven't missed much. The Golden Era of Telenovela is past, Turks and Koreans picked up the model and do it well.
DeleteAsian ones are something I don't think I will ever get into.
DeleteI have a feeling that I would fall asleep if I watched this one LOL
ReplyDeleteBut they are lady ninjas LOL
DeleteNetflix and cheap marketing you say? I never see any marketing from them at all other than on Facebook. I'd say for as much as they charge subscribers, they can afford to do a lot better of a job in the marketing department. Then again, they do have to pay the likes of those idiots Harry and Megan as well as the Obamas lots of monies for their trash projects, so I guess that's where their budget goes. In any case, I don't think this one is for me.
ReplyDeleteI mean sometimes they don't even upload a freaking trailer onto their YouTube, like in this case or that Smiley series a few weeks ago.
DeleteLots of period dramas out now it seems. Greetings!
ReplyDeleteThat is true.
