Elizabeth, who has been called one of America’s first international celebrities, was known for her fashion, wit and independence. Although she gave him a son, Jerome later on annulled their marriage and married a German princess, and Liz returned to America where she kept flaunting her royal connection. After the Battle of Waterloo, she returned to Europe, where she reportedly was well received in the most exclusive circles and much admired for her beauty and wit.
