'SPEAKS THE NIGHTBIRD' 17TH
CENTURY WITCHTRIAL SERIES
The book might be turned into series at FX
If, for some peculiar reason, you are into witches, here's a possible new TV series for you: FX has set Stephen Susco to adapt Robert McCammon's period set horror saga SPEAKS THE NIGHTBIRD into small screen series. The 2002 best selling two volume novel tells the dark and chilling tale about a witch-hunt in the seventeenth century Carolina colonies. The series centres around the main character Matthew Corbet, a clerk of a travelling magistrate who arrives to a Carolina town in 1699 to investigate the appearance of a witch who might not really be a witch but a victim? The novel later on spawned a whole series on Corbet's adventures.

Ad Astra finally arrives into cinemas this September
Your trailer for today comes from a movie that has been postponed many times (when you see the rather uninspired trailer below you will get the feeling why) but will finally land into cinemas this September! AD ASTRA (To the Stars in Latin) stars Brad Pitt as astronaut Roy McBride who travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet. His journey will uncover secrets that challenge the nature of human existence and our place in the cosmos. The movie directed by James Gray also stars Liv Tyler, Tommy Lee Jones and Donald Sutherland.

  1. Speaks the Nightbird - sounds pretty spooky. South Carolina has an history of witch trials. I thought this theme is obsolete, but no it's getting a tv series.

I see Donald Sutherland is still active as an actor(Ad Astra). I remenber him as very impressive, with his over 1.90 m height and good acting! His son Kiefer is not bad either.

    1. I'm surprised they are doing it, as there were a few witch hunt series in recent years, such as Salem.
I did not know Donald was so tall!

  2. Witches are good. Not heard anything about Ad Astra before?

  3. The book was excellent, though I don't recall any witchcraft being performed. It was more historical.

  4. We're headed to Salem this summer on our vacay, so I'm in the mood for some witch stories.

Ad Astra does have some big names in it. Does not really pull me in with the trailer, but might catch it on movie night with Jason when we have nothing else to watch.

    1. Yes, not really a very attractive trailer.

  5. It’s amazing that they would even bother with that Brad Pitt movie. It doesn’t seem appealing at all. I love witchy anything but after Discovery Of Witches I think I need a witch break!

    1. I wish they cast an actress who knows how to act in Discovery of Witches.
