SEVENTH SON
As you people know, winter is usually the month for fantasy epics, and beside the long awaited THE HOBBIT THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG one of the biggest of the upcoming movies in the genre will be SEVENTH SON which hits cinemas January 17th! The fantasy spectacle is a loose movie adaptation of the first instalment in Joseph Delaney's best selling fantasy saga 'The Wardstone Chronicles', known in the US as 'The Last Apprentice'. As you can see in the trailer below, the film will feature enchanting sets, extravagant costumes, stunning battle scenes and some very naughty dragons!
In a time long past, an evil is about to be unleashed that will reignite the war between the forces of the supernatural and humankind once more. John Gregory (Jeff Bridges) is a Spook, a person who fights against the Dark, who had imprisoned the malevolently powerful witch, Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore), centuries ago. But now she has escaped and is seeking vengeance. Summoning her followers of every incarnation, Mother Malkin is preparing to unleash her terrible wrath on an unsuspecting world. Only one thing stands in her way: John Gregory. In a deadly reunion, Gregory comes face to face with the evil he always feared would someday return. Now he has only until the next full moon to do what usually takes years: train his new apprentice, Tom Ward (Ben Barnes) to fight a dark magic unlike any other. Man’s only hope lies in the seventh son of a seventh son.
SEVENTH SON'S CAST
KIT HARINGTON, BEN BARNES, JULIANNE MOORE, JEFF BRIDGES, DJIMON HONSOU
Directed by two times Oscar nominated famous Russian moviemaker Sergei Bordov (ABRAHAM LINCOLN THE VAMPIRE HUNTER, NOMAD, MONGOL) the film has a starstudded cast which beside Jeff Bridges as Spook, Julianne Moore as evil witch Malkin and Ben Barnes as Spook's apprentice, also includes GAME OF THRONES superstar Kit Harington (this is the first of the two epic films in which you will see him next year, since he also has the lead role in historical epic POMPEII) as Billy Bradley, Scandinavian actress Alicia Vikander as Alice Deane, MAN OF STEEL's Anthe Traue as Bony Lizzie and Djimon Hounsou as Radu. Olivia Williams and Jason Scott Lee are also in the cast. The story is only vaguely inspired by the books as most of the characters, settings and general storyline have been edited and retain very few similarities with their novel counterparts.

SEVENTH SON'S TIDBITS
HUNGER GAMES and PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN star Sam Claflin was originally supposed to play the lead role (after Alex Pettyfer bowed out of the project) which later on went to Ben Barnes from DORIAN GRAY and CHRONICLES OF NARNIA PRINCE CASPIAN. At the same time Alicia Vikander took the female role only after Dianna Agron, Jennifer Lawrence and Imogen Poots dropped out. The movie had problems during the production and was postponed, partly because a visual effects studio which worked on the movie had a bankruptcy and had to be saved by Universal Pictures. It will now premiere in January 2014 almost a year after its original release date.
Moore is a great actress
ReplyDeleteshe had good roles
Deleteit looks like everything else the film world has been offering i didn't know all of the struggles it had. they should straight to dvd and bypass the release nightmare it might be. people are being more choosy on films, not every film is going to be the success like the avengers.. stop making them look like that. i think i went of the rail on this...
ReplyDeletethe film got a January spot, which could actually work for it... since HANSEL AND GRETEL had a success this January, people like to see epic fantasy in winter.
DeleteI wish only epic fantasy films would be huge hits and superhero flicks not.
Some really nice epic films such as JOHN CARTER, JACK THE GIANT KILLER etc went bad at the boxoffice because this world is filled with cynical fanboys who enjoy only gore and torture porn and hate everything which has imagination and creativity.
I'll see it just for Jeff Bridges.I got to support the Dude!
ReplyDeletehe is having a revival of his career, kinda like most other mature actors these days.
DeleteThe Seventh Son trailer looks great. I had to crack up at the old dude standing in front of the roaring dragon. Then the next clip was of him drinking some booze to make him brave. He must've been awfully drunk to stand up to that dragon!
ReplyDeletepffft dragon shmragon.... I'd face them too :)
DeleteJeff Bridges does get better and better with age!
ReplyDeleteas do we, Fran,as do we :)
DeleteI don't care what season it is, I'll always take a heaping of cinematic fantasy. Toss in a dragon or two, and just about anything failings it may have are entirely forgivable. :)
ReplyDeletethat would be HOLLYWOOD SPY's manifesto too, Bob :)
DeleteSounds ace. On my to watch list in 2014 :D
ReplyDeleteI've already put it on mine :)
DeleteI'll catch this on DVD just for Kit. But, really, it's a great cast all around. :D
ReplyDeleteand the trailer promises an epic fun :) And we do love dragons. don't we?
DeleteAmazing movie and trailer , i love it Dezmond ;)
ReplyDeleteCheers
It's brilliant, isn't it?
DeleteCan you believe that I haven't even seen The Lord of the Rings trilogy yet? I need to get on it because The Hobbit looks really good!
