Although the film seems rather striking visually, I'm not quite convinced that young Ben Barnes has enough charisma to carry such a huge cinematic role.
Looking forward to this one. I have been a fan of the character since The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen in which Gray was played by Stuart Townsend.
ReplyDeleteI agree Dez, it is going to be interesting to see if Ben can pull off such a 'deep' role. I sincerely hope he can because if he can't, it will pretty much ruin the film and that would be a shame.
I'm also one of the rare fans of TLOEG, and of Stuart Townsend.

Yes it is going to be very interesting. I hope he does not try to play the part as if he was Prince Caspian though. Hopefully he will lend some 'maturity' to the role, you know what I mean?
ReplyDeleteyes, but not maturity within the character, since Dorian Gray is immature and superficial as a person, but maturity in the form of deeper acting skills. We shall wait and see.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen Prince Caspian. Or anything else from Barnes. But I'm looking forward to Easy Virtue. I've seen its trailer and Barnes looks respectable there, even surrounded by much more experienced colleagues.
ReplyDeleteAnd about this new Dorian Gray... It looks to me like they will try to make Dorian a good guy. Maybe young and reckless, with some questionable decisions, but basically a good guy.
I could be wrong though. This trailer is the only thing I've seen/heard of this movie so far.
Well, you can see from this trailer that Barnes isn't one of those expressive actors, he just seems very cold and numb. But that's what Dorian should be like as well. Let's just hope that he'll show some inner fire in the last scenes when he is faced with the ultimate truth and his destiny.
