HOLLYWOOD SPY SPOTLIGHT ON FALL 2012 NEW SITCOMS: MATTHEW PERRY'S "GO ON", JESSE BRADFORD'S "GUYS WITH KIDS" & JUSTIN BARTHA'S "THE NEW NORMAL"

It's been a very slow period in movie news world, people, so I'm going to entertain you next two days with the overview of the new sitcoms coming to TV this Fall season.
MATTHEW PERRY'S GO ON
I know you've all been missing our favourite Chandler from FRIENDS a lot, but now Matthew Perry is back with his new sitcom GO ON over at NBC. Matthew Perry stars as Ryan King, a recent widower and sports talk radio host ready to get back to work after the loss of his wife.
Ryan's alpha-male boss, Steven (John Cho "Star Trek"), has a different plan in store for Ryan, making him attend grief counseling before returning to the air. A reluctant Ryan finds himself in a support group for "life change," where he meets an oddball cast of characters, all with their own backstories filled with varying degrees of loss. On his very first
visit, Ryan convinces the group to deviate from their normal session and starts a tournament-style competition (March Sadness!) to find out whose story is the worst. Ryan's total lack of interest in "the healing process" proves distracting and he soon butts heads with the by the
books group leader, Lauren (Laura Benanti "The Playboy Club"). Back at work, Ryan is confronted with the fact that he hasn't really processed his grief and realizes Lauren and the other members of the group might be key in helping him move on.
GUYS WITH KIDS
This one seems really adorable. GUYS WITH KIDS is about three 30-something dads who try to hold on to their youth as they face the responsibilities of having kids. Thankfully, Gary (Anthony Anderson "Law & Order"), Chris (Jesse Bradford "The West Wing") and Nick (Zach Cregger "Friends with Benefits") have each other to help
navigate the highs and lows of fatherhood - while still trying desperately to remain dudes. Balancing work or staying at home, happily married or happily divorced, taking care of the "littles" while maintaining a social life is a daily challenge. Whether it's hosing down their babies in the kitchen sink or hitting the bar strapped with "babybjorns," these guys are taking on fatherhood in ways no one has ever seen before. Nick and
Gary's wives - Emily (Jamie-Lynn Sigler) and Marny (Tempestt Bledsoe) also offer their own parenting advice. Dads today are more involved in their kids' lives than ever, and these guys are no exception. No tantrum is too loud, no diaper is too dirty - Nick, Chris and Gary are up to the challenge.
 THE NEW NORMAL
Yet another deeply delightful new sitcom at NBC this season is THE NEW NORMAL: These days, families come in all forms - single dads, double moms, sperm donors, egg donors, one-night-stand donors... It's 2012 and anything goes. Bryan (Andrew Rannells) and David (Justin Bartha) are a Los Angeles couple, and they have it all. Well,
almost. With successful careers and a committed, loving partnership, there is one thing that this couple is missing: a baby. And just when they think the stars will never align, enter Goldie (Georgia King), an extraordinary young woman with a checkered past. A Midwestern waitress and single mother looking to escape her dead-end life and
small-minded grandmother (Ellen Barkin), Goldie decides to change everything and move to L.A. with her precocious eight-year-old daughter. Desperate and broke - but also fertile - Goldie quickly becomes the guys' surrogate and quite possibly the girl of their dreams. Surrogate mother, surrogate family.

HOLLYWOOD SPY SPOTLIGHT ON "VIKING" EPIC SERIES FROM "THE TUDORS" MICHAEL HIRST WITH TRAVIS FIMMEL, GABRIEL BYRNE, CLIVE STANDEN, KATHERYN WINNICK

Well, great news my epic shows lovers! One of our favourite writers of period set series, Michael Hirst, has started shooting new period set series VIKINGS over in lovely Ireland. Let us keep our fingers crossed that it will have the quality of Hirst's legendary show THE TUDORS and his amazing films ELIZABETH and ELIZABETH THE GOLDEN AGE and not of that horrid CAMELOT which flopped big time last year at Starz. VIKINGS will chronicle the world of the Norsemen during medieval times and will be aired sometime next year at History Channel as their first scripted series and it will have ten episodes with budget of E30 million.
VIKING STORY
VIKINGS will be a series high on adventure, exploration, conflict, warfare and bloodshed, for these were extreme times, but, at its heart, it will also be a family saga.
It follows the adventures of Ragnar Lothbrok, a historical figure, and the greatest hero of his age, and the gripping sagas of Ragnar’s band of Viking brothers and his family, as he rises to become King of the Viking tribes. Ragnar Lothbrok  is based upon the real-life Viking leader who literally exploded out of Scandanavia and onto the world stage in the 8th Century. A young Norwegian farmer with a wife and family, Ragnar is deeply frustrated by the unadventurous policies of his local chieftan, Earl Haraldson, who continues to send his Vikings raiders east every summer, to the Baltic states and Russia, whose populations are as materially poor as themselves. Lagertha is the first wife of Ragnar’s and
their marriage is a love-match. Ragnar was first attracted to Lagertha when she came to fight for a local Norwegian ruler against an invading Sweden. Floki, based partly on the Norse god Loki, is an impish character and ship builder who designs and builds the prototype of the new generation of Viking ships which can sail across the open ocean but also up the shallowest of rivers. He is a design genius and he allows Ragnar to fulfill his dreams of sailing west and discovering new lands and new civilizations. Siggy is Earl Haraldson’s beautiful wife and an enigmatic character. She performs her duties impeccably and with style, but she may not be completely loyal to
her husband. Rollo is Ragnar’s cousin and initially one of his closest friends, involved in his early raids. But soon becomes jealous of his fame and success.
VIKING CAST
Swedish director Johan Renck will helm the first three episodes of VIKINGS with Ireland’s Ciaran Donnelly ("The Tudors") and Ken Girotti
("Rescue Me") to take the reigns of the second and third block of episodes respectively. Travis Fimmel ("The Beast", "Baytown Outlaws") will play the lead role of Ragnar, the first great Viking leader, a man of both history and myth, Jessalyn Gilsig ("Glee", "Heroes", "CSI: NY", "Nip/Tuck", "Friday Night Lights") will appear as Siggy, Earl Haraldson’s beautiful wife, Gustaf Skarsgard ("The Way Back") as Floki, a close friend of Ragnar’s who is an eccentric jokester yet an inventive, creative boat-builder, Clive Standen ("Camelot", "Robin Hood") as Rollo, Ragnar’s excessive, cruel cousin, and Katheryn Winnick ("Stand Up Guys", "Bones", "Love and Other Drugs") as Lagertha, Ragnar’s first
wife and famous shield maiden who often fights alongside him. They all join Golden Globe Award winner and Emmy Award nominated actor Gabriel Byrne ("Usual Suspects", "Millers Crossing") who will portray Earl Haraldson, the most important local ruler in Ragnar’s district, and George Blagden ("Les Miserables", "Wrath of the Titans") who will play Athelstan, an Anglo-Saxon monk captured by Ragnar on his first raid on England. Irish actors Eric Higgins ("The Tudors") as warrior Knut and Gerard McCarthy ("The Fall") as Bronsted have also landed roles. The costumes will be done by amazing Joan Bergin who made costumes in THE TUDORS, CAMELOT, REIGN OF FIRE.
VIKING TIDBITS
Unlike past movies and dramas that caricatured them as barbarians VIKINGS will not look at Viking culture from the outside, but from within the heart
of Viking society. It will be a series high on adventure, exploration, conflict, warfare and bloodshed — for these were extreme times — but, at its heart, it will also be a family saga. The show will boast a polished, stylized look that pushes the boundaries of television drama. Imaginatively choreographed battles will emphasize individual points of view, strategies and ruses rather than mindless, graphic slaughter. Fast-paced battle sequences will be balanced against the astonishing beauty of the fjords and Viking longboats, works of art on a bloody canvas.

STUNNING POSTERS FOR CW'S NEW SHOWS "ARROW" & "BEAUTY AND THE BEAST"! CIARAN HINDS IS KING BEYOND THE WALL IN "GAME OF THRONES"! LUCY LAWLESS IN "PARKS AND RECREATION"

CW's has released two great posters for their two new shows, the first being  ARROW which has also added TORCHWOOD'S John Barrowman as a "mysterious" and "well-dressed" man. After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in
the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira,  sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he's become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow - a vigilante - to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be - flanked by
his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle - while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel's father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver's own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on - and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine.

TELEVISION HEADLINES
According to "Entertainment Weekly" Ciaran Hinds, whom you remember as the glorious Caesar in one of the best epic series in history
ROME, will return to HBO again since he has just gotten the role of Mance Rayder in GAME OF THRONES. In the third season of the epic show, Ciaran will portray the King Beyond the Wall. In the "Song of Ice and Fire" book series, Rayder broke his vows as a Night's Watch member and went to live with the wildlings, where he was very influential and become their leader. Although Rayder has been mentioned on the first two seasons of "Game of Thrones", he has yet to be seen on the series. The second season ended with Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) being taken to him. Meanwhile, Lucy Lawless, whom we shall miss terribly in SPARTACUS, will have a guest role in PARKS AND RECREATION as a single mother who enlists the help of the Pawnee Parks Department with a neighbourhood dispute.

 BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
The second poster is for another of CW's Fall series BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. Detective Catherine Chandler is a smart, no-nonsense homicide detective. Several years earlier, Catherine witnessed the murder of her
mother at the hands of two gunmen. Catherine would have been killed too, but someone - or something - saved her. No one has ever believed her, but she knows it wasn't an animal that attacked the assassins...it was human. Years have passed, and Catherine is a strong, confident, capable police officer. While investigating a murder, Catherine discovers a clue that leads her to a handsome doctor named Vincent Keller, who was reportedly killed by enemy fire while serving in Afghanistan in 2002. Catherine learns that Vincent is actually still alive and that it was he who saved her many years before. For mysterious reasons that have forced him to live outside of traditional society,
Vincent has been in hiding for the past 10 years to guard his secret - when he is enraged, he becomes a terrifying beast, unable to control his super-strength and heightened senses. Catherine agrees to protect his identity in return for any insight he may have into her mother's murder. Thus begins a complex relationship between Catherine and Vincent, who  are powerfully drawn to each other yet understand that their connection is extremely dangerous for both of them. The series stars Kristin Kreuk (Smallville) as Catherine, Jay Ryan (Terra Nova) as Vincent, Max Brown (The Tudors) as Evan.

NBC "CLEOPATRA" EPIC SERIES! CHRIS HEMSWORTH GETS "SNOW WHITE & THE HUNTSMAN" SPINOFF! WENTWORTH MILLER TO ADAPT "STORY OF EDGAR SAWTELLE"! AARON PAUL JOINS TONI COLLETTE IN "LONG WAY DOWN"

Now, if you read HOLLYWOOD SPY regularly you already know that Wentworth Miller isn't only an actor, but also a writer whose scripts are getting made into films. One of his new gigs is writing a script for the movie adaptation of THE STORY OF EDGAR SAWTELLE bestseller written by David Wroblewski. The Hamlet like story follows a mute young boy whose parents are dog breeders who has to run away from home following his father's mysterious death, and hatch a plot to expose his uncle as the murderer. It is interesting that the film will be produced by Oprah Winfrey and Tom Hanks. When it comes to acting, Wenty will appear this year next to equally amazing Karl Urban and James Marsden in THE LOFT, about businessmen who share a secret loft where they take their lovers, but the things get complicated when a dead girl is found there.

HOLLYWOOD SPY HEADLINES
Ah, don't you just love how many new epic shows we're getting in the near future? NBC has decided to jump on this train and give us some
CLEOPATRA. According to "Deadline" they have ordered a pilot for the period set series on legendary Egyptian queen which is described as an epic romance that takes place in a world of sorcery, gods and monsters. The characters of Mark Antony and Julius Caesar will also appear in the potential series, which will follow Cleopatra as she unleashes a terrible curse to win back her throne. Good news also come from SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN sequel which has just fired that horrid Kristen Stewart and is now focusing on making the sequel a spin-off which would actually focus on Chris Hemsworth's huntsman! That was actually the original plan as well, but her cheating scandal has fast-tracked the idea.

LONG WAY DOWN
And more news on our favourite TV stars: amazingly charismatic Aaron Paul from
BREAKING BAD has joined a stellar cast including Toni Collette, Pierce Brosnan and Imogene Poots in LONG WAY DOWN. As I've told you before this big-screen adaptation of British author Nick Hornby's 2005 novel revolves around four strangers who happen to cross paths atop a tall building in London on New Year's Eve as each attempts to commit suicide, but their meeting ends their plans and they eventually become friends. Brosnan plays a television talk show host, Collette is a single mother who has to raise her disabled son, Poots is a teenage girl, while Paul will play a pizza delivery man.

HOLLYWOOD SPY SPOTLIGHT ON NEW NBC'S SF APOCALYPTIC SHOW "REVOLUTION" SET IN THE WORLD WITHOUT ENERGY SOURCES

As you remember, a number of new shows awaits us this Autumn on TV, and since apocalyptic projects are very trendy thanks to the super popular worldwide hit drama THE WALKING DEAD which awaits its third season later this October, one of the most interesting new shows will definitely be science fiction series REVOLUTION which is ready to air September 17th at NBC in its first season set in the world without energy sources in which the Earth has gone very primeval.

REVOLUTIONARY STORY
Our entire way of life depends on electricity. So what would happen if it just stopped working? Well, one day, like a switch turned off, the world is suddenly thrust back into the dark ages. Planes fall from the sky,
hospitals shut down, and communication is impossible. And without any modern technology, who can tell us why? Now, 15 years later, life is back to what it once was long before the industrial revolution: families living in quiet cul-de-sacs, and when the sun goes down lanterns and
candles are lit. Life is slower and sweeter. Or is it? On the fringes of small farming communities, danger lurks. And a young woman's life is dramatically changed when a local militia arrives and kills her father, who mysteriously - and unbeknownst to her - had something to do with
the blackout. This brutal encounter sets her and two unlikely companions off on a daring coming-of-age journey to find answers about the past in the hopes of reclaiming the future.

REVOLUTIONARY CAST
From director Jon Favreau (“Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2”) and the fertile imaginations of J.J. Abrams (“Lost,” “Person Of Interest”) and Eric Kripke (“Supernatural”), comes a surprising “what if” action-
adventure series, where an unlikely hero will lead the world out of the dark. Literally. The series stars Billy Burke (“The Horrid Twilight Saga”), Tracy Spiridakos (“Being Human”), Anna Lise Phillips (“Terra Nova”), Zak Orth (“Romeo + Juliet“), Graham Rogers
(“Memphis Beat”), J.D. Pardo (“A Cinderella Story”), Giancarlo Esposito (“Breaking Bad”), David Lyons (“The Cape”), Maria Howell (“The Blind Side”), Tim Guinee (“Iron Man”) and Andrea Roth (“Rescue Me”). Kripke, Abrams, Favreau and Bryan Burk (“Lost,” “Star Trek”) serve as executive producers. REVOLUTION
is produced by Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Bad Robot Productions, Kripke Enterprises and Warner Bros. Television. The pilot was directed by Favreau.

SAOIRSE RONAN IS "MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS"! "LIBERAL ARTS" TRAILER WITH JOSH RADNOR & ELIZABETH OLSEN! 80'S "ALF" SITCOM GETS A MOVIE ADAPTATION!

Amazing news for all you historical dramas fans! "Deadline" reports today that after seeing the amazing Shekhar Kapur's saga
about ELIZABETH I with Cate Blanchett we shall see the story of MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS on film too!  It's not surprising that it will be produced by legendary Michael Hirst who wrote ELIZABETH THE GOLDEN AGE and THE TUDORS. He also wrote the screenplay for the film on the Scottish queen and is currently looking for a director. But he has already found his actress: Saoirse Ronan will play Mary who was crowned the Queen of Scotland before her first birthday. Her first husband also became the King of France, making her the queen consort in 1559. Her reign went downhill from there, after marrying her first cousin before he was murdered. She then married the man accused of killing her former husband, which caused an uprising that resulted in her imprisonment. She was executed at the age of 18, for her alleged part in an assassination attempt on England's Queen Elizabeth I, Mary's cousin.

HOLLYWOOD SPY HEADLINES
I've mentioned this project a year or so ago, but it seems the movie adaptation of famous 80's sitcom ALF is now going ahead again: according to "Heat Vision" it will be produced by THE SMURFS producer and by the original creators of the show which followed the suburban Tanner family, who find a furry alien from the planet Melmac that crash landed in their garage. The Tanners take in the extraterrestrial, who has a penchant for eating cats and cracking wise. The title is an acronym for Alien Life Form.

LIBERAL ARTS TRAILER
Your trailer this Saturday is for funny and moving romantic drama
LIBERAL ARTS in which two adorable people Elizabeth Olsen and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER's Josh Radnor play an unusual couple. Radnor plays a thirty-something Jesse who is invited back to his alma mater, where he falls for a young 19-year-old college student and is faced with the powerful attraction that springs up between them.He has to conquer the age difference and his inner fears. It is interesting that the film was both written and directed by Radnor himself. Check out the clip. The film is out September 14th.
