I have to admit that I have never seen the original film, as I'm not infatuated by criminals and gangs as most of you freaks, but Steven Spielberg has decided to do his version of the 1957 classic musical, which explores forbidden love and the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds. Set for a December 10th cinematic release (on the exact 60th anniversary of the original film), the two and a half hour long film will feature a host of young up and coming actors from both New Jersey and New York, for a reworking of the timeless love story between Tony and Maria, whose first on screen adaptation won an Oscar in 1961. After a whole bunch of amazing new epic TV series that I announced yesterday, here's another one, equally brilliant: Amazon has greenlit four episode mini series CORTES coming from Steven Spielberg's production house based on a half a century old script rewritten by Steven Zaillian who got an Oscar for Schlinder's List! Javier Bardem will take the lead role in the epic saga about the infamous conqueror, Hernan CORTES who, some 500 years ago, led a rebellious expedition to the heart of King Montezuma II’s Aztec empire, connecting two civilizations for the first time and changing the course of history. The producers promise a saga filled with drama and adventure. Cortes was celebrated in Europe as someone who expanded Spanish Empire and viewed as genocidal psycho by Aztec tribes who ended one of the greatest civilizations of that time. popular science fiction novel by Ernest Cline (who actually mentions

revolves around a young outcast named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan). In the
near future, Watts escapes from his daily drudgery by logging onto an
MMO game called 'The Oasis'. When the game's billionaire founder (Mark
Rylance who worked with Spielberg two years ago in The Big Friendly
Giant) dies, he offers players his fortune as the prize in an easter egg
hunt within The Oasis and also the control over the entire Oasis. Watts
gets in on the action then after five years finds himself facing off
against corporate foes who will go to any lengths to get the money -- in
both the real world and in The Oasis.
TONS OF CULTURAL REFERENCES
Alan Silvestri who composed the music in Van Helsing, Croods, Avengers, Captain America, Lara Croft, Night at the Museum and other films, is doing the score for this one and this is only the third time Spielberg is working with John Williams in the music department. Some of the characters that the movie mentions in its numerous references includes heroes from Lord of the Rings, Tron, Akira, Iron Giant, Back to the Future, Tomb Raider etc.
Among the many exclusives in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly was also the first photo of Antonio Banderas in the second season of anthology series GENIUS in which he is playing Pablo Picasso! In the National Geographic's series Alex Rich will portray the young Picasso, while Antonio Banderas will be portraying the artist from his 40s until his death in 1973 at the age of 91! He lived most of his life in Paris of the first half of the 20th century and crossed paths with writers and artists including Coco Chanel, Henri Matisse, Marc Chagall, Gertrude Stein, Georges Braque and Jean Cocteau, so you may expect them in the series too!

Whoever finds the Egg will inherit the creator’s $240 billion fortune.
Nobody thought beloved adventure classic The Mummy needed reboot and they still made it with Tom Cruise and the movie ended up being a major flop for Universal, but it seems they are still continuing with their Dark Universe franchise of monster movies since the latest rumours from 'Hollywood Reporter' say they want Channing Tatum as the famous vampire killer in the reboot of VAN HELSING, which, you will agree, also does not need a remake since Hugh Jackman was a perfect vampire slayer. They've already attached Johnny Depp for The Invisible Man and Javier Bardem for Frankenstein, and they apparently also want Angelina Jolie for Bride of Frankenstein which should be directed by Bill Condon.

He will be Pope Pius IX in the movie which recounts the story of a young Jewish boy in Bologna, Italy in 1858 who, having been secretly baptised, is forcibly taken from his family to be raised as a Christian. His parents’ struggle to free their son becomes part of a larger political battle that pits the Papacy against forces of democracy and Italian unification.

'LOST CITY OF Z' TRAILER

The first quite meh trailer has also been, rather quietly, released for the adaptation of DavidGrann's book THE LOST CITY OF Z which describes real events, about British explorer Percy Fawcett (Charlie Hunnam) who made several attempts to find an ancient lost city in the Amazon and finally disappeared in 1925 along with his son in the search for the city. Beside Charlie Hunnam as Colonel Fawcett, the movie also stars Robert Pattinson as his fellow explorer Henry Costin and Sienna Miller as his wife Nina Fawcett! Angus MacFadyen and Tom Holland are also in the cast in the Brad Pitt produced movie which will probably hit cinemas some time in Autumn.
And it seems Steven Spielberg has found his lead youngster for the movie adaptation of Ernest Cline's cult sf novel READY PLAYER ONE: young Cyclops from X MEN movies Tyler Sheridan will apparently play Wade Owen Watts, a poor orphan who spends most of his time in a massive online game and virtual society whose currency is the most stable in the very troubled world. Like other players, Wade wants to solve a puzzle hidden in the game by its creator, as doing so supposedly unlocks access to a mind-blowing fortune. Olivia Cooke and Ben Mendelsohn have been cast already.

latest word is that they want Sofia Boutella, Gazelle from KINGSMAN
movie, to play the title character of THE MUMMY making it this time a
female monster. The reboot which is to be set in modern times apparently
also wants Tom Cruise in the lead male role. Alex Kurtzman is
directing.
