Ready to start shooting next January, Tom Ford's new movie project CRY TO HEAVEN has gathered an almost insanely stellar cast which even includes a movie debut from Adele! Based on Ann Rice's novel the costume movie is set against a backdrop of opera in 18th century Italy and follows a Venetian noble and a castrated Calabrian singer as they try to find success in that world. Aaron Taylor Johnson, Nicholas Hoult, Owen Cooper, star next to Ciarán Hinds, George MacKay, Mark Strong, Paul Bettany, Thandie Newton, Daryl McCormack and Colin Firth who already worked with the fashion designer director in A Single Man.

Four years ago I told you that Paula Beer will lead the English language biopic LADY NAZCA about German mathematician Maria Reiche

Lady Nazca is out in Germany and France

 who pioneered research into Peru’s mysterious Nazca lines in the 1940s, and then fought for their preservation throughout her life. But Beer was replaced by Empress star Devrim Lingnau and the film is playing in cinemas in France and Germany this Autumn. The Nazca lines, a 50 square km area in the Nazca Desert in southern Peru, are a mysterious group of geoglyphs, forming geometric designs and the shapes of birds and animals when viewed from the sky. Reiche first moved to Peru in the 1930s to work as a governess after studying mathematics and languages at university in her native city of Dresden. She became fascinated by the lines after a trip to the Nazca Desert in the early 1940s and made it her life’s mission to research their meaning and protect them. This passion brought with it trouble and danger but also give her a sense of peace. Guillaume Gallienne plays her co-archaeologist Paul Kosok in the Damien Dorsaz helmed movie.

Merv will stream from December 10th

Prime Video has sent us a trailer for their new comedy movie MERV which will be ready for streaming December 10th with Charlie Cox and Zooey Deschanel in the lead roles. It is a contemporary comedy about ex-couple Russ and Anna, who discover that Merv - the dog they share custody of - has become depressed due to their breaking up. Attempting to lift Merv's spirits at Christmas, Russ takes him on a "boys' trip", leaving freezing Minnesota for a dog-friendly beach in sunny Florida. Anna unexpectedly shows up, rekindling romantic feelings. Patricia Heaton also stars.

HBO continues with the production of the second season of their sf series DUNE PROPHECY and they have just added Tom Hollander, Ashley Walters and Indira Varma to the cast led by Emily Watson, Olivia Williams and Travis Fimmel. Based on Frank Herbert's famous books, and set 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, the series follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit. The eight episode season two is being shot in Spain, Jordan and Hungary.

New series started streaming last week

Straight over from Russia, which never has a shortage of new period series, we have a poster and a trailer for their new historical drama KING OF THE NIGHT (Царь ночи) which actually started last week November 6th on their streamer Premier depicting the history of one family against the backdrop of tragic events. Elizaveta Boyarskaya, Vladimir Vdovichy chenko, Alexander Galibin, Maxim Mityashin, Alexey Yarmukchi, Alice Refer, Alexey Ukhov star in the series which was shot last year over in the Northern imperial capital of St. Petersburg.

 

NEW SERIES HAS THE STORY SET  

at the beginning of the 20th century in St. Petersburg. After the death of their father, young brother and sister, Jacob and Sophia, lose each other. To meetagain, they have to go through street gangs, a revolutionary underground, intrigues of political police and high society and be at the center of a conspiracy, the purpose of which is the destruction of the Russian Empire. Will they be able to hear the only person who calls for salvation through love and faith and make the right choice between good and evil when the world is collapsing around them? The Artist starts this November

After I remind you that next week is bringing us the premieres of The Beast in Me, Malice and The Seduction, when it comes to new TV series, I will present you with the trailer and poster for new period set drama THE ARTIST which will hit The Network free streamer November 27th with first three episodes with the other three available December 25th. The series is set in the same period as Gilded Age but it is more of a quirky comedy with Mandy Patinkin, Janet McTeer, Danny Huston, Hank Azaria, Zachary Quinto and Clark Gregg, as well as Katharine McPhee, Jill Hennessy in the lead roles.

 SET IN THE TWILIGHT OF GILDED AGE

 it follows an ensemble of the era’s celebrities who meet at the home of Norman Henry, an eccentric and failing tycoon (Mandy Patinkin), and his wife Marian (Janet McTeer) which ends in his untimely demise. Zachary Quinto will play Delphin Delmas, a white shoe lawyer from San Francisco. Hank Azaria will be Thomas Edison, the esteemed inventor who visits Norman Henry to pitch his latest technological device. Clark Gregg portrays Harry Kendall Thaw, the spoiled son of an American coal and railroad baron. Danny Huston is Edgar Degas, the celebrated and controversial French Impressionist artist. And it is such a massively stellar ensemble movie: Sir Ian McKellen's movie FRANK AND PERCY which also stars Roger Allam will also have Hugh Skinner, Sir Stephen Fry, Dame Joanna Lumley, Sir Derek Jacobi, Rob Brydon and Dame Sian Phillips in the cast. The story follows two older men who meet while walking their dogs on Hampstead Heath. What begins as a casual conversation about the weather and aching hips gradually deepens into an unexpected friendship – and perhaps something more.

Michael Matthews is directing the film about a hostage crisis which erupts inside New York’s landmark Clybourn Building, and firefighter Rhett (Butler), his squad, and his NYPD wife Dani (Atwell) must fight and navigate their way through the building to rescue the captives.

ITV has surprised us today with the first images from their upcoming new six part thriller TV series THE PARTY which boasts quite a stellar leading duo with Luke Evans and Tom Cullen! Evans plays Martin Gilmour, a journalist shaped by his lifelong friendship with the wealthy and charismatic politician Ben Fitzmaurice (Cullen). Raised alone by his working-class mum, Sylvia (Joanna Scanlan), Martin wins a scholarship to an elite boarding school, where he first meets Ben. They forge an unbreakable bond, as Ben and the Fitzmaurices give Martin the sense of belonging he has always craved. In turn, Martin remains unflinchingly loyal to Ben through even the greatest crises. Three decades on, Martin is invited to Ben’s lavish birthday party at the Fitzmaurices' country pile. The news of the Conservative leader’s resignation threatens to derail Ben’s party, as he considers announcing his intention to stand. Martin fears the publicity that Ben’s bid would bring, dredging up the secrets of their past with tragic consequences. The drama moves between the shocking events of the party and the police investigation that follows, with flashbacks to Martin and Ben’s lives at school, university and London party days. Sarah Solemani stars as Martin’s pregnant wife, Lucy.Lydia Leonard is Serena, Ben’s formidable wife, whilst Lindsay Duncan and Douglas Hodge play Ben’s parents, Lady Katherine and Lord George Fitzmaurice.
