I already told you that Apple TV is turning Philip Kerr's novel series BERLIN NOIR into a period set TV drama with Jack Lowden in the lead and now he has been joined by Colin Firth. Set in 1928 it will follow

With the political and social world shifting to a new norm, we see Bernie fighting for truth, whatever the cost. Firth will be Paul Lohser, a brilliant but prickly Murder Detective with the Berlin Police. Meticulous, anti-social and well-educated, he’s everything Bernie isn’t. And as his partner and unlikely mentor, Lohser is Bernie’s best and only hope of catching the killer.

Jack Lowden will lead the new series

According to Screen Daily, our dearest boy Jack Lowden will, beside shooting the seventh season of Slow Horses, also lead a TV series adaptation of METROPOLIS, the final novel in the Berlin Noir novel series by Philip Kerr. He wrote 14 novels in the series before he died in 2018. Tom Shankland, who recently helmed The Leopard saga for Netflix, is directing the period set drama for Apple TV Plus. The series focuses on the character of detective Bernie Gunther. METROPOLIS, set in 1928, tells the origin story of Gunther, a police officer newly promoted to the elite Berlin Murder Squad who must investigate what seems to be a serial killer targeting victims on the fringes of society.

After the first look pictures and new names to join Hugh Bonneville, Charlotte Spencer, Emun Elliott, Tom Cullen, Stefanie Martini and Sam Spruell in the second season of BBC's THE GOLD series that were revealed in February, we now have the trailer and also June 8th as the return date for the new season. Some of the new cast members joining series two, include: Tom Hughes, Stephen Campbell Moore, Joshua McGuire, Tamsin Topolski, Joshua Samuels and Rochelle Neil as well as Antonia Desplat, Lorna Brown, Thomas Coombes, Sean Teale and our gorgeous Olivia Grant! As you probably remember the first season also included some famous names  such as Jack Lowden who is back again and Dominic Cooper. In Australia it hits Stan June 9th.

 

THE SIX PART TV SERIES

is inspired by the true story of the 1983 Brink’s-Mat robbery and the decades-long chain of events that followed. Following the conviction of some of those involved in the theft and handling of the Brink’s-Mat gold, the police (Hugh Bonneville, Charlotte Spencer, Emun Elliot) realised that those criminals only ever had half of it. Series two explores what happened to the other half, and the criminal fortune it created. As the police investigation continues, it becomes a tense, high-stakes journey into international money laundering and organised crime, the police embark on a series of dramatic manhunts as they desperately try to solve the longest and most expensive investigation in the history of the Metropolitan Police.

Dolly Alderton has already written the scripts for the 19th century novel adaptation that tells the story of Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy, who eventually fall in love but have to navigate various obstacles as Elizabeth’s father seeks a male heir. That is third Austen project recently beside The Other Bennet Sister series from BBC and recently aired Miss Austen series with Keeley Hawes also at BBC and PBS.

A trailer has been released for a very weird period set action thriller TORNADO which will be out soon set in the rugged landscape of 1790’s Britain. Tornado (Kōki) finds herself caught in a perilous situation when she and her father’s travelling puppet show crosses paths with a ruthless criminal gang led by Sugarman (Tim Roth) and his ambitious son Little Sugar (Jack Lowden). In an attempt to create a new life, Tornado seizes the opportunity to steal the gold from the gang’s most recent heist; what follows is a thrilling tale of adrenaline-fueled action as Tornado fights to escape a violent demise. It has been two years since the first glorious season aired, but Prime Video is finally preparing August 29th as the start date of the brand new season of the epic THE RINGS OF POWER series from the Lord of the Rings universe and today we are celebrating it with a spectacular official trailer which you can feast your eyes upon below and tell us what you think.

Arriving to Cannes Market is John Maclean's period set movie TORNADO with Jack Lowden in the lead role! Set in the rugged landscape of 1790s Britain, Tornado (Kōki), is a young and determined Japanese woman who finds herself caught in a perilous situation when she and her father’s (Takehiro Hira) travelling puppet Samurai show crosses paths with a gang of ruthless criminals led by Sugarman and his ambitious son Little Sugar (Jack Lowden). In an attempt to create a new life for herself, Tornado seizes the opportunity to take matters into her own hands and steal the gold from their most recent heist.

Our latest info from the upcoming movie market in Cannes comes from Screen Daily: according to their sources Callum Scott Howells has been set to portray Holly Johnson in RELAX movie biopic on his famous 80s pop band Frankie Goes to Hollywood and the creation of their biggest hit "Relax" which was storming the charts back in its day. The film was written and directed by Bernard Rose who, very interestingly, directed the original music video for the said music hit. The film is based on Holly's memoirs A Bone In My Flute.

Screen Daily also reports on Mads Hedegaard's stone age set movie drama STRANGER which is set to shoot this summer for an Autumn

Danica Curcic will be the hunter tribe queen

2024 release. The film is set around 4,000 BC, during the transition from Hunter Stone Age to Peasant Stone Age. The story follows a 19-year-old girl, Aathi (Angela Budalovic), whose family are the first farmers to arrive in what is now Denmark; when her family is killed by a local tribe of hunter-gatherers, she and her brother are forced to live with the tribe in the vast and eerie forest and learn new traditions in order to survive. As the culture crash becomes more ruthless, Aathi must decide if she will take her revenge. Serbian actress Danica Curcic is playing the leader of the hunter-gatherer tribe. A Pre-Indo-European language has been developed especially for the film to ensure authenticity!

The disposal of the bullion caused the birth of large-scale international money laundering, provided the dirty money that helped fuel the London Docklands property boom, united blue and white collar criminals and left controversy and murder in its wake.

Jack Lowden plays south London/Kent criminal Kenneth Noye who was involved in helping the robbers with the disposal of the gold bullion. Hugh Bonneville is Brian Boyce the top Met detective who heads up the investigation by speical request of his superiors. Dominic Cooper is dodgy solicitor/businessman also caught up in schemes to hide and invest the money raised by the stolen bullion. Charlotte Spencer is eager young detective Nicki Jennings who helps on the investigating team. Tom Cullen plays criminal John Palmer while Emun Elliott stars as Met detective Tony Brightwell. Daniel Ings, Adam Nagaitis, Sam Spruell, are also in the cast!

It will air at Berlin Film Festival this year before hitting theatres next March, but we already have a poster and trailer for Willem Dafoe's new movie INSIDE coming from director Vasilis Katsoupis. In the film, which is a co production between United States, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium and Greece, Dafoe plays Nemo, a high-end art thief, who ends up trapped in a lavish New York penthouse after his heist doesn't go as planned.
