This is the life story of the great Russian poet Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin from his lyceum days to the fatal duel. In the film, Pushkin will appear as a modern and multifaceted hero, in whom the dark and terrible fights with the light and enlightened.

The cast of the movie directed by Felix Umarov also includes French actor Florian Desbiendras as Georges Dantes, Ilya Vinogorsky as Ivan Pushchin, Anna Chipovskaya in the role of Countess Elizaveta Vorontsova, Ilya Lyubimov as Vasily Zhukovsky, Evgeny Schwartz as his imperial highness Emperor Nicholas I of Russia and Sergei Gilev as Alexander Benckendorff. I have to admit that I have never seen the original film, as I'm not infatuated by criminals and gangs as most of you freaks, but Steven Spielberg has decided to do his version of the 1957 classic musical, which explores forbidden love and the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds. Set for a December 10th cinematic release (on  the exact 60th anniversary of the original film), the two and a half hour long film will feature a host of young up and coming actors from both New Jersey and New York, for a reworking of the timeless love story between Tony and Maria, whose first on screen adaptation won an Oscar in 1961. This time the lead duo

But as far as I've got it, it won't be a direct big screen adaptation of the famous opera by George Bizet, but a musical based on it. Benjamin Millepied, a dancer and a choreographer, is directing this as his first movie with  Paul Mescal in the male lead, Melissa Barrera in the titular role and Spanish icon Rossy de Palma in a supporting role. The film that starts filming over in Australia this January will see Mescal playing Aidan opposite Barrera's Carmen in this tragic love story. Not sure who Aiden is, but in the opera, the male lead was Don José, a naive soldier who is seduced by the wiles of the fiery gypsy Carmen. Written by Oscar winner Alexander Dinelaris, Jr. the film will have an entirely original score and nine new songs! I'm guessing they'er aiming at new Moulin Rouge.

It is not exactly a biopic, Elton calls it a sort of a movie of fantasy stories based around his greatest hits but it does also describe how he started writing some of world's biggest ever hits and how he developed his unique image enjoying love and fun along the way.

It is interesting that Fletcher has just finished helming another musical biopic Bohemian Rhapsody on Queen in which Rami Malek plays Freddy Mercury. While we're waiting for the second season of National Geographic's anthology series GENIUS to start this month with Antonio Banderas as Picasso, after Geoffrey Rush played Albert Einstein in the first one, the channel has renewed the series for third season as well revealing that it will focus on Mary Shelley, the writer of what is considered to be one of the first horror novels in history, Frankenstein. Later on she also pretty much created the Post Apocalyptic genre with her novel The Last Man. She was inspired by her mother Mary Wollstonecraft who was also a writer and by her husband famous poet Percy Shelley. She was one of few women to support herself as an author during the early 18th century, and her inner circle included countless literary and scientific luminaries of the day, including Lord Byron, Samuel Taylor Coleridge! She died of brain tumour after pretty much outliving all of her family, including three of her four children.

If you grew up on Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales such as The Snow Queen, The Little Mermaid or The Ugly Duckling, you will be happy to hear that Fox 2000 is planning a musical movie about him starring Ansel Elgort!

The musical fantasy will feature original music from Wicked's Stephen Schwartz and will, as 'Deadline' reports, follow Andersen who as a young man gets trapped in a world of his own imagination. As he searches for a way back to reality, he comes face-to-face with characters from his own fairy tales, nearly all of whom try to trap him in their world forever.The project is planned as a potential musical movie franchise. Life of Pi's David Magee is penning the script! The studio apparently paid a seven digit sum for the pitch.
