TO PLAY LONG JOHN SILVER PIRATE

This adaptation has been in plan over in Hollywood for two decades now, but now it will be Ridley Scott who will direct the movie version of famous Robert Louis Stevenson classic TREASURE ISLAND with Hugh Jackman attached to portray pirate Long John Silver. According to Deadline, the package will be offered to the studios this week. The story follows a young boy who uncovers the map to a legendary buried treasure, and he embarks on a perilous sea voyage to claim a hidden fortune, only to find himself locked in a deadly battle of wits with the charismatic and treacherous pirate Long John Silver.

The local cop, on the other hand, has never solved a serious crime in his life, so the sheep conclude they will have to solve it themselves, even if it means leaving their meadow for the first time and facing the fact that the human world isn't as simple as it appears in books.

As Deadline reports, Sky and AMC have hired Julianne Moore to lead their new eight part historical series MARY & GEORGE about powerful royal family favourites Mary Villiers and her son George. In the series that will begin shooting at the beginning of 2023, she will play Mary Villiers, Countess of Buckingham, who in 17th Century England moulded her beautiful son, George, to seduce King James I and become his all-powerful lover. We finally got the first poster for Hugh Jackman's movie drama THE SON from director Florian Zeller and also starring Anthony Hopkins, Vanessa Kirby and Laura Dern. Jackman plays a man called Peter who has his busy life with new partner Beth, played by Kirby, and their baby thrown into disarray when his ex-wife Kate, played by Dern, turns up with their teenage son, Nicholas, played by Zen McGrath. This deeply moving movie will continue making it's journey through movie festivals around the world and will start opening in cinemas around Europe from January, February and March next year. It could be a strong awards season contender.

This is Hugh's second musical after Les Miserables, but he was the original choice for legedary Moulin Rouge together with Catherine Zeta Jones before the roles went to Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman.

I've reported earlier on this, but now British ITV is finally moving on with it: they have found the lead for their ultra lavish television series adaptation of Thackeray's Victorian saga VANITY FAIR! The seven episode epic series will also stream on Amazon. Mammoth Screen who is producing Poldark and Victoria will be doing this one as well!

Olivia Cooke (who recently went Victorian in Limehouse Golem) will take the lead role of Becky Sharp in the series that follows her stoic and unscrupulous attempts to make her way in English society in the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars and the rule of King George IV! The shooting starts this September in London and Budapest, so expect other casting updates this summer!

The psychological thriller drama is set in 1896, when a series of gruesome murders of boy prostitutes has gripped the city. Newly appointed top cop Teddy Roosevelt calls upon Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Daniel Bruhl), a criminal psychologist, aka alienist, and newspaper illustrator John Moore (Luke Evans) to conduct the investigation in secret. Joining them in the probe is Sara Howard (Dakota Fanning), a headstrong secretary at Police Headquarters.

 'KRYPTON' SUPERMAN'S GRANDAD SF TV SERIES

 Only a few days ago I've informed you that Cameron Cuffe will play the lead role in SyFy's KRYPTON sf series on Superman's grandfather, and now there are new cast addition lead by our beloved Beowulf and Da Vinci's Demons' star Elliot Cowan!

KRYPTON is set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet following Superman’s grandfather Seg-El, whose House of El was ostracised and shamed, as he fights to redeem his family’s honour and save his beloved world from chaos.

Game of Thrones' Ian McElhinney will play Val-El, grandfather of Seg-El, a rogue genius who believes that space exploration is a basic form of self defense, and he has tried, without success, to warn the Kryptonian elite about the arrival of an ancient threat. Elliot Cowan is Daron Vex, the Chief Magistrate of Kandor whose real business is defending Krypton’s established oligarchy against heretics and dissidents. Ann Ogbomo will be Primus Alura Zod, Lyta Zod’s (female lead played by Georgina Campbell) mother and a leader of Krypton’s military guild, an extremely tough training officer. Rasmus Hardiker will play Kem, a brilliant engineer as well as Seg-El’s best friend and partner in an underground tech repair business. Wallis Day will play Nyssa Vex, a junior magistrate and the daughter of Daron Vex. Aaron Pierre is Dev-Em, a cadet under the command of Primus Alura Zod.

In other sf news, 'Deadline' reports that the third instalment in Hugh Jackman's franchise WOLVERINE will see young Boyd Holbrook taking the lead villain role as Donald Pierce, a cyborg with superhuman abilities. His character is described as a relentless, calculating and intense head of security for a global enterprise who is set against Jackman’s clawed Wolverine/ Logan hero. Titled simply LOGAN, the third Wolverine movie, directed by James Mangold, will see Hugh Jackman playing the super mutant for the last time, with Patrick Stewart also appearing in the movie as Professor X!The movie should be out next March!
