Photo exclusives today, people! 'Entertainment Weekly' has revealed the first photos from Hugh Jackman's new movie THE GREATEST SHOWMAN an original musical movie on P.T. Barnum, the founder of a modern circus. With Michelle Williams playing his wife the colourful film will bring glitz to the big screens next Christmas! Zac Efron plays his business partner with Rebecca Ferguson also in the cast. Even though the story is set in the middle of the 19th century, it will be filled with dance numbers and pop sounding hits.

THE FATHER OF MODERN CIRCUS  
The story of P.T Barnum, a visionary who rose from nothing to create a mesmerizing spectacle that became a worldwide sensation. Directed by Michael Gracey, it will track Barnum's rise from poverty-stricken childhood to the launch of his first circus in New York.

'STAR TREK: DISCOVERY'

In the television department, CBS has revealed the first image from their new STAR TREK: DISCOVERY series showing Michelle Yeoh, playing a captain of a starship, and lead star Sonequa Martin Green who plays a commander of the Discovery helmed by Jason Isaacs. Set before the original series, the series will air sometime later this year. Maybe.

'THE ALIENIST' SERIES TRAILER

TNT has, meanwhile, released the first trailer for their period set series THE ALIENIST  based on the novel by Caleb Carr. The psychological thriller drama is set in 1896, when a series of gruesome murders of boy prostitutes has gripped the city. Newly appointed top cop Teddy Roosevelt calls upon Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Daniel Bruhl), a criminal psychologist, aka alienist, and newspaper illustrator John Moore (Luke Evans) to conduct the investigation in secret. Joining them in the probe is Sara Howard (Dakota Fanning), a headstrong secretary at Police Headquarters.

HIRES JASON ISAACS AS CAPTAIN

Although it has been postponed again, for Borg knows which time, and will now air sometime late summer instead of May, STAR TREK: DISCOVERY new sf series has just drafted its captain! Jason Isaacs will take the helm of Star Fleet's starship Discovery as Captain Lorca opposite Sonequa Martin Green who will be the commander and actually the lead character of the new show which will air on CBS and Netflix around the world. The story will follow the first adventures of the crew at the beginnings of Star Fleet's exploration of space and will also feature Michelle Yeoh as the captain of another Star Fleet Starship. The series will also feature first gay character in a Star Trek series. 

'VERSAILLES' EPIC TV SERIES

Meanwhile over in France, Canal + has released the first English language trailer for the second season of their smash hit historical series VERSAILLES charting the life of the famous Sun King which starts airing in France March 27th and will again be broadcast later this year for US audience by Ovation, after the first season became their best watched programme ever. BBC Two will again air the English language series over in Great Britain. The first season was sold in 135 countries around the world.

Our beloved George Blagden will put on the lace, silk and royal frills as the Sun King again! The biggest budgeted French series ever has been greenlit for second season even before the airing of the opening one in Winter 2015! Season two looks at the dark underbelly of power as Louis sees the dream of his grand palace crumbling before his eyes. With phase one complete, most of France’s eminent lords and ladies now live under the Sun King’s roof. Drugs, gambling and alcohol are rampant, as nobles begin to poison each other in order to get closer to him. Blinded by passion for his mistress, Louis refuses to listen to the advice of the church and his closest advisors and leaves for war against arch enemy William of Orange, but he must discover the path back to light and redemption to save his vision of Versailles. Alexander Vlahos will return in the role of his royal brother Monsieur Philippe Duke of Orleans.

Something that is shaping up to become one of our most anticipated sitcoms, the pilot for Carol Burnett's multi camera comedy TV series HOUSEHOLD NAME, has just got new cast addition: ABC has cast Matt Oberg to play Tim, a teacher who views life as a never ending education. He’s a people pleaser, who always tries to do the right thing and make everybody happy, only to find that he can’t. HOUSEHOLD NAME revolves around a family who gets a chance to buy the house of their dreams but under extremely abnormal circumstances: They must live with the current owner — an eccentric, larger than life movie diva(Burnett) — until she dies.

ANNIE POTTS JOINS 'DISTE- FANO'
 Meanwhile, rival CBS has cast comedy veteran Annie Potts to play Chris Distefano's passive aggressive yet vulnerable Irish Catholic mother in the multi camera sitcom pilot for DISTEFANO in which he plays an Italian American from Brooklyn and a new dad who married a Puerto Rican woman and together they are  raising their newborn daughter and merging their meddling families – one Puerto Rican, one Italian.

In other TV news, CBS has also cast new names for their new STAR TREK: DISCOVERY sf series which will start this May following a commander of a new Star Fleet ship played by Sonequa Martin Green with Michelle Yeoh playing the captain of ship Shenzhou. New additions include: Terry Serpico as Admiral Anderson (a high ranking official of Starfleet), Maulik Pancholy as Dr. Nambue (the Chief Medical Officer of the Starship Shenzhou) and Sam Vartholomeos as Ensign Connor, a Junior Officer in Starfleet Academy assigned to the Starship Shenzhou. The story will be set in the first years of Star Fleet's exploration of space, sadly.

CBS is boarding first Klingons to join Michelle Yeoh (Starfleet captain Georgiou), Doug Jones (Lt. Saru, a Starfleet Science Officer), Anthony Rapp (Lt. Stamets, an astromy cologist, Starfleet Science Officer) in the cast for new STAR TREK: DISCOVERY series which will follow one of the first Starfleet ships to venture boldly into the space (next May) with a female commander as the lead character (TWD's Sonequa Martin Green is rumoured for the role).

New actors to play Klingons are: Chris Obi as T'Kuvma, the Klingon leader seeking to unite the Klingon houses; Shazad Latif (in the photo) as Kol, the Commanding Officer of the Klingons and protégé of T’Kuvma; and Mary Chieffo as L'Rell, the Battle Deck Commander of the Klingon ship.

Just two weeks ahead of the premiere, BBC has released the trailer for their new Agatha Christie two part series THE WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION airing on the 26th and 27th December! It tells the story of heiress Emily French (Kim Cattrall) who is found battered in a pool of blood in her luxurious home after seducing war veteran Leonard Vole (Billy Howle). Penniless solicitor John Mayhew (Toby Jones) and Vole’s common law wife Romaine Heilger (Andrea Riseborough) find themselves entangled in the mess.

GETS MOVIE AND TV ADAPTATION!

Deadline reports today that Lionsgate is preparing to adapt Pat Rothfuss fantasy trilogy THE KINGKILLER CHRONICLE into a movie franchise and also a TV series. Lin Manuel Miranda is set to do the music. The main character of the saga is Kvothe, an adventurer and famous musician, and the books follow his travels through the world called the Four Corners of Civilization where different regions are either rich or barren, some even populated by fairies! It is planned for the first movie to be based on the first book THE NAME OF THE WIND, while at the same time developing a TV series that expands on the world outside the books!

CASTS NEW CREW MEMBERS 
In TV news, by now you've probably heard that it has been confirmed that Michelle Yeoh will, indeed, star in new STAR TREK: DISCOVERY CBS series, and she will be Captain Georgiou, the Starfleet Captain of the Starship Shenzhou. But two more cast members have been added to the series which will be set in the early days of Federation's exploration of wider space. Anthony Rapp will appear in the regular cast as Lt. Stamets, a gay astro mycologist, fungus expert, and Starfleet Science Officer aboard the Starship Discovery. Doug Jones will be Lt. Saru, a Starfleet Science Officer and a new alien species to the Star Trek universe. To air in May, the series will have a female commander as the lead character.

And here's a trailer we've been waiting for! The first one for period set drama THE OTTOMAN LIEUTENANT out next February!  Directed by Joseph Ruben THE OTTOMAN LIEUTENANT  follows a strong willed woman (Hera Hilmar), who, frustrated by ongoing injustice at home, leaves the United States after meeting Jude, an American doctor (Josh Hartnett) who runs a remote medical mission within the Ottoman Empire, a world both exotic and dangerous, and on the brink  of what is about to become the first World War. There, she finds her loyalty tested to both Jude and the mission’s founder (Ben Kingsley) when she falls in love with their perceived enemy, a lieutenant in the Ottoman Imperial Army (Michiel Huisman). With invading army forces at their doorstep, and the world about to plunge into all-out war she must make a decision.

Great news, people, after a very long wait we finally have the first name in the cast for new STAR TREK: DISCOVERY TV series which will air at CBS next spring and through Netflix around the world! Michelle Yeoh has been announced by one of the show's producers as the new captain!

Sadly, it won't be the lead role since this series will have a female starship lieutenant commander of colour as the protagonist thus marking it as the first of the STAR TREK series that won't have their lead star commanding the ship! Michelle Yeoh will apparently have a reoccurring role as a character named Han Bo a captain of another ship named the Shenzhou and should have an important role in the first season which won't have individual stories in each episode but will follow a longer storyline set ten years before the original series when Star Federation was first venturing into the unknown space.  If the rumours are right DISCOVERY will also have a male British doctor aboard and at least one gay character!

  'THE BOOK OF LOVE' TRAILER

And a lovely first trailer for Jason Sudeikis' (looking better than ever in it) new movie THE BOOK OF LOVE which is out this January in cinemas. Originally titled The Devil and the Deep Blue See it will see Sudeikis playing Henry an introverted architect. After the death of his wife (played by Jessica Biel) in a car accident, he sets out to help Millie, a homeless teen (played with a very, very bad accent, by Maisie Williams), to build a raft to sail across the Atlantic. Also starring Paul Reiser, Orlando Jones and Mary Steenburgen the movie features beautiful original music from Justin Timberlake!

STUNNING FIRST TRAILER!

Oh, my, do I have some mindblowing fresh trailers from the Comic Con for you today! And they're almost all stunning and amazing. DC is, of course, dominating especially with the marvellous first trailer for WONDER WOMAN movie in which Gal Gadot is wielding her lasso of truth while trying to save Chris Pine from the battles of War World One. As you can see from the amazing trailer the fight scenes are really well done and Gal seems to have the necessary charisma. The trailer also shows stunning sets from the land of the Amazonians ruled by their queen played by Connie Nielsen. The movie is out next June!

  1ST 'JUSTICE LEAGUE' TRAILER

Wonder Woman also appears in the first trailer which gathers all of DC's leading super heroes in one place - JUSTICE LEAGUE which is still shooting! I can't say I liked the trailer, too much horrid Ben Affleck for my taste, but it also shows Ezra Miller as The Flash and Jason Momoa as Aquaman! Amy Adams, Henry Cavill and Jeremy Irons also star. The movie is out November next year.

'KING ARTHUR: LEGEND OF THE SWORD' TRAILER

An equal mix of like and dislike for me in the first trailer for Guy Richie's retelling of the Camelot legends in KING ARTHUR: LEGEND OF THE SWORD. I did like the look of it, it looks rather stunning, Jude Law seems magnetic as the main villain Vortigern who steals the crown from Arthur. But I just can't get into Charlie Hunnam playing the character as if it is some modern day street thug with nothing medieval in it. Out next March it will also see Eric Bana playing Uther Pendragon, Arthur's father murdered by Vortigern, Astrid Bergès Frisbey as Guinevere and Djimon Hounsou as Sir Bedivere.

And something from the small screens: CBS has revealed the first purely teasing teaser for new STAR TREK TV series which will be titled STAR TREK: DISCOVERY showing the launch of the new Star Fleet Ship Discovery. The cast is yet to be announced for the sf series that starts next January! It will have one season story, it won't be episodic and will probably be set before or around the original series.
