I cannot remember if we have seen her before in a costume drama, but Screen Daily reports today straight from Cannes that Michelle Williams will take the lead role in Karim Ainouz' FIREBRAND historical movie about Katherine Parr, the last of King Henry VIII's six wives. Jessica and Henrietta Ashworth are currently writing the script for this historical psychological horror film set at the dangerous Tudor court; a story of intrigue, agency and survival which tells how Katherine Parr outlasted Henry VIII’s brutal reign. 

 

  Kathe- rine Parr previously beautifully played by gorgeous Joely Richardson in ultra popular The Tudors series, was the queen of England and Ireland for four years before Henry's death. This is Hugh's second musical after Les Miserables, but he was the original choice for legedary Moulin Rouge together with Catherine Zeta Jones before the roles went to Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman.

I've reported earlier on this, but now British ITV is finally moving on with it: they have found the lead for their ultra lavish television series adaptation of Thackeray's Victorian saga VANITY FAIR! The seven episode epic series will also stream on Amazon. Mammoth Screen who is producing Poldark and Victoria will be doing this one as well!

Olivia Cooke (who recently went Victorian in Limehouse Golem) will take the lead role of Becky Sharp in the series that follows her stoic and unscrupulous attempts to make her way in English society in the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars and the rule of King George IV! The shooting starts this September in London and Budapest, so expect other casting updates this summer!

In television news today, a trio of new actors has joined the cast of Starz' epic series THE WHITE PRINCESS sequel to BBC's The White Queen (without any of the original actors). As Deadline reports today, Amy Manson, Andrew Whipp and Patrick Gibson have been just cast!

 Amy Manson is going to portray Lady Catherine Gordon, cousin to King James IV of Scotland. Catherine is the politically motivated love interest of “The Boy” – a young man who threatens to rupture the tentative peace bought by the marriage of Elizabeth of York and Henry VII by claiming to be Prince Richard of York, rightful heir to the throne and Elizabeth’s long lost brother. “The Boy”, to be played by Patrick Gibson, finds support in the courts of Europe, giving new hope to a group of York loyalists led by the Duchess of Burgundy and Elizabeth Woodville – the Dowager Queen. Andrew Whipp will play Richard Pole, supporter and former soldier of Henry VII, whose marriage to Elizabeth’s cousin Margaret Plantagenet (Rebecca Benson) reinforces the alliance between the Houses of York and Lancaster under Tudor rule.

I've already informed you that Jacob Collins Levy will portray Henry VII, Jodie Comer  is Princess Elizabeth, Essie Davis is her mother, previous queen Elizabeth, Joanne Whalley will be Duchesss of Burgundy, with Michelle Fairley as Margaret Beaufort and Suki Waterhouse as Cecily of York. The series will see England ostensibly united by the marriage of Elizabeth of York and King Henry VII, but their personal and political rift runs deep and the war that rages between them threatens to tear the kingdom apart once again.
