NEW PERIOD SET MURDER MYSTERY

The Artist starts this November

After I remind you that next week is bringing us the premieres of The Beast in Me, Malice and The Seduction, when it comes to new TV series, I will present you with the trailer and poster for new period set drama THE ARTIST which will hit The Network free streamer November 27th with first three episodes with the other three available December 25th. The series is set in the same period as Gilded Age but it is more of a quirky comedy with Mandy Patinkin, Janet McTeer, Danny Huston, Hank Azaria, Zachary Quinto and Clark Gregg, as well as Katharine McPhee, Jill Hennessy in the lead roles.

 SET IN THE TWILIGHT OF GILDED AGE

 it follows an ensemble of the era’s celebrities who meet at the home of Norman Henry, an eccentric and failing tycoon (Mandy Patinkin), and his wife Marian (Janet McTeer) which ends in his untimely demise. Zachary Quinto will play Delphin Delmas, a white shoe lawyer from San Francisco. Hank Azaria will be Thomas Edison, the esteemed inventor who visits Norman Henry to pitch his latest technological device. Clark Gregg portrays Harry Kendall Thaw, the spoiled son of an American coal and railroad baron. Danny Huston is Edgar Degas, the celebrated and controversial French Impressionist artist. JOINS THE ARTIST GILDED AGE SERIES

The latest one to join the cast of free streamer The Network's Gilded age set mini series THE ARTIST is Zachary Quinto. Set in the twilight of the Gilded Age, it follows an ensemble of the era’s celebrities who meet at the home of Norman Henry, an eccentric and failing tycoon (Mandy Patinkin), and his wife Marian (Janet McTeer) which ends in his untimely demise. A piece of telly news comes from 'Deadline' today that Zachary Quinto is to lead new TV series BIOPUNK based on a book by Marcus Wohlsen. The story of the new series chronicles the underground world of bio hackers, DIY garage scientists seeking to do for biotech what Steve Jobs did for personal computing. These are young and hungry guerilla scientists committed to democratizing DNA the way the internet did for information, with the ambition to build never before seen organisms that could solve the thorniest challenges in food, health, energy, and environmental protection.

GREATEST SHOWMAN ON EARTH 

MICHELLE WILLIAMS TO JOIN HUGH JACKMAN MUSICAL?
We haven't seen her for some time, but according to the latest rumours coming from Tinseltown, Oscar winner Michelle Williams is in negotiations to join Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron (who is also in talks) in THE GREATEST SHOWMAN ON EARTH! The movie, the first original movie musical in two decades, will tell the story of legendary P.T. Barnum and his invention of show business, and of his ultimate invention of the three-ring circus. He is known as the founder of what became the famous travelling Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.

While we're anxiously waiting to see what will the new STAR TREK TV series, starting in January at CBS, be about and who will stand at the helm of Enterprise (Nathan Fillion being fans' favourite rumoured name), we shall first watch the third movie in the rebooted saga (or the thirteenth at all) STAR TREK BEYOND which will boldly sail into the cinemas around the world from July 22nd this summer! THE CREW IS BACK
In the $150 million movie, the crew of the USS Enterprise, halfway into their five year mission, which takes them into uncharted territory, are attacked by a seemingly unstoppable wave of unknown aliens forcing them to abandon ship. Stranded on an unknown planet and with no apparent means of rescue nor communication, the crew find themselves in conflict with a new ruthless enemy, while Kirk must work out a plan to reunite his crew and get back to Earth.

CHRIS PINE AND KARL URBAN LEADING THE CAST AGAIN

With FAST AND FURIOUS franchise director Justin Lin behind the helm of STAR TREK BEYOND instead of J.J. Abrams who had to work on STAR WARS saga, the cast is again lead by the ensemble that has built up an amazing chemistry among themselves in the first two movies of the rebooted series. Chris Pine returns again as the young Captain Kirk fresh from the Star Fleet Academy and now given the command of Enterprise which he is taking into the legendary exploring mission with most famous Vulcan in the universe Spock, played by Zachary Quinto, as his trusted commander. It is interesting that while both Pine and Quinto have contracts signed for the fourth movie as well, the rest of the crew did not have presigned contracts even for this one, which Karl Urban, who is again playing everybody's beloved grumpy Doctor Bones or Lieutenant Commander McCoy, has recently confirmed by saying he did not even know he is returning for the third part, which is shocking given that his character is fans' favourite. Zoe Saldana is gain Lieutenant Uhura, John Cho portrays Lieutenant Sulu and Anton Yelchin is Lieutenant Chekov! Idris Elba is the main villain in the movie called Krall, while Sofia Boutella is Jaylah, the alien warrior you see in the trailer with the white skin. Oscar winner Shohreh Aghdashloo was cast as the High Command of the Federation for reshoots on the film.

'THOR: RAGNAROK' CASTS

Well, this is shaping up to be the best superhero movie cast ever, seriously: it has been revealed that Cate Blanchett will officially join Chris Hemsworth's THOR: RAGNAROK as the powerful nemesis Hella, Asgardian goddess of death, while our beloved Karl Urban will be Skurge (Thor's Asgardian enemy wielding a double bladed axe, one of the Masters of Evil)! Jeff Goldblum will be the eccentric Grandmaster (a master of all games of skill and chance, a member of the Elders of the Universe), Tessa Thompson will play mighty warrior Valkyrie, while Mark Ruffalo will again be the Hulk! Tom Hiddleston will reprise his role of Loki, Idris Elba of Asgardian sentry Heimdall, while Anthony Hopkins is again the ruler of Asgard, Odin!  You can also check out the first concept art photo from the film out November next year.

Star Trek stories are very in these days especially with hot rumours that Nathan Fillion might be playing the new captain in new STAR TREK TV series starting next January at CBS, but today we have the second trailer for STAR TREK BEYOND movie out this July!

In STAR TREK BEYOND, the intrepid Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test. The cast is again lead by Chris Pine, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Zachary Quinto, Anton Yelchin and Idris Elba as the new villain, with Sofia Boutella as alien warrior Jaylah!

Yet another trailer today comes for 1970's thriller starring two of our most beloved boys Tom Hiddleston and Luke Evans HIGH RISE  which is out next March set in a fictional 1975, with the launch of a luxury housing tower that eliminates the need for the outside world. Charming young Robert Laing (Hiddleston) is at first amazed by life inside the high-rise, but cracks soon reveal a rigid class structure on the verge of collapse. Elisabeth Moss, James Purefoy, Sienna Miller and Jeremy Irons round up the stellar cast!

 'INDEPENDENCE DAY II' TRAILER

The first trailer has also been released for another massive sf franchise - INDEPENDENCE DAY II: RESURGENCE. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defence program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction. Beside Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman from the original cast, Liam Hemsworth also stars! It is, of course, out June 24th, exactly 20 years after the original movie.

Not much to share with you today, people, it seems to be a very slow day in movie news business, so I will entertain you with first character pictures showing the cast of NBC's upcoming new drama series THE SLAP! The American small screen adaptation of an Australian hit television series of the same name will hit you with the first SLAP on Thursday, February 12th with a rather stellar ensemble cast including Peter Sarsgaard, Thandie Newton, Melissa George, Zachary Quinto, Brian Cox, Pen Badgley, Uma Thurman, Marin Ireland and Thomas Sadoski.

Coming from the executive producer Jon Robin Baitz (BROTHERS AND SISTERS) THE SLAP is a miniseries based on the book by Christos Tsiolkas and the Australian television series!. In the centre of the story is Hector (Peter Sarsgaard), a public servant, husband, father and valued friend on the cusp of his 40th birthday. There is also Aisha (Thandie Newton), Hector's beautiful and intelligent wife who is planning his party filled with friends and his very boisterous Greek family. Sounds like the makings of a great day, right? Wrong. As Hector tries to navigate family politics, awkward friendships and the young woman he is dangerously captivated by, the built-up tension explodes when Hector's hotheaded cousin (Zachary Quinto) slaps another couple's misbehaving child. TO GIVE 'THE SLAP' IN NBC'S CONTROVERSIAL MINI SERIES

After an extremely slow beginning of the week in the movie news business, some TV updates for you today, people: 'Entertainment Weekly' writes that Zachary Quinto has joined the cast of THE SLAP eight episode mini series, which will be NBC's US version of Australian hit TV show. It's a complex family drama about what happens after a man slaps another couple’s misbehaving child. Quinto will play Harry, the slapper, married, with a 15-year-old son, a mechanic/dealer specializing in expensive European cars, lives with his family in a Brooklyn loft. Perennially angry but seemingly pleased with his life, Harry is a staunch believer in family and loyalty and never shies from picking a fight. However, Harry picks on the wrong guy when he slaps the horribly misbehaving child of another couple. Brian Cox will play a peacemaker in the family, with Peter Sarsgaard and Mary Louise Parker also in the cast.

RAMI MALEK IS 'MR. ROBOT'
USA Network has chosen Rami Malek as the lead in their new TV show MR. ROBOT in which he will play Elliot, a young programmer who suffers from a debilitating anti-social disorder and decides that he can only connect to people by hacking them.
NEW SITCOMS AT ABC
ABC has bought two new comedy series: COUCH DETECTIVE, about the exploits of a 30-something female “couch detective” who solves crimes based on her encyclopaedic knowledge of every true-crime TV special, police procedural and made for TV movie. NUCLEAR FAMILY, will, on the other hand, follow a pair of self professed altruists who adopted eight children from all over the world, some with special needs. Having bit off way more than they can chew, their radically different parenting styles have created a hurricane of teenage dysfunction, at the centre of which is their often overlooked only biological child.

THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE

ALEXA DAVALOS IS FEMALE LEAD

Meanwhile over at Amazon, Alexa Davalos has been cast as the female lead in their upcoming TV show THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE, the small screen adaptation of Philip. K. Dick's novel which explores an alternative reality in which Nazi Germany and Japan won World War II and occupy the United States, with the East Coast controlled by the Nazis and the West Coast owned by Japan, and a chunk of the Midwest still up for grabs. Davalos will play Juliana, who lives in Japanese occupied San Francisco. She is fascinated by Japanese culture and has mastered the art of aikido, but her personal state of truce with the Empire Of Japan stops forever when her half sister Trudy is shot dead in front of her eyes by a Japanese soldier. Entrusted by Trudy with a black satchel containing a vital pro- Resistance propaganda film, Juliana heads east for Colorado, the secret headquarters of the Resistance, and the road ahead of her is very blurry and very dangerous. I've informed you recently that Luke Kleintank is the male lead.
