depicts the unification and colonization of Hawai’i from an indigenous point of view with Momoa playing warrior Ka’iana, as he tries to unify the islands before Western colonization in the late 18th century. Back then the four major kingdoms of Hawaii were constantly in a state of war. Legendary warrior Kaʻiana is pulled into battle when Seers and visions name him as the one who will fulfill an Ancient Prophecy that will bring peace to all of Hawaii.  WHO ELSE IS IN THE CAST?

Te Ao o Hinepehinga portrays Kupuohi, the wife of Ka’iana (Momoa). Kaina Makua is Kamehameha, the prophesied king who is destined to unite the warring kingdoms of the Hawaiian Islands. Moses Goods plays Moku, Chief Advisor to Kamehameha of Hawai’i and Ka’ahumanu’s (Luciane Buchanan) father. Siua Ikale’o portrays Nahi,’ Ka’iana’s  youngest brother. Apple TV + has opened the new week with the first image of Jason Momoa in his epic new series CHIEF OF WAR and the start date set for August 1st when it will launch with first two episodes and then continue weekly.  The series depicts the unification and colonization of Hawai’i from an indigenous point of view with Momoa playing warrior Ka’iana, as he tries to unify the islands before Western colonization in the late 18th century. This one has started shooting last November at Hawaii before moving in February to New Zealand where the series had been shooting till June for Apple TV Plus! Jason Momoa leads the cast of the series set in the late 18th Century when the four major kingdoms of Hawaii were constantly in a state of war. Legendary warrior Kaʻiana is pulled into battle when Seers and visions name him as the one who will fulfill an Ancient Prophecy that will bring peace to all of Hawaii.

A THOUSAND BLOWS

We also have two set photos showing Stephen Graham and Erin Doherty at the sets of A THOUSAND BLOWS mini series which follows the fortunes of Hezekiah and Alec, two best friends newly arrived from Jamaica. Fighting for survival in the violent melting pot of Victorian London's East End, they come up against Sugar Goodson, a dangerous, veteran boxer, played by Stephen Graham. Warrior's Jason Tobin also stars in the twelve episode 19th century Disney Plus series.

A GENTLEMAN IN MOSCOW

Ewan McGregor is also looking dashing and swell in full costume for his new historical series A GENTLEMAN IN MOSCOW from Showtime and

Paramount+ based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Amor Towles. He stars as Count Alexander Rostov. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel's doors. The series also stars Ewan's love partner Mary Elisabeth Winstead and our dear John Heffernan! I hear the shooting that started back in February was almost over when it was suspended this month due to the actors' strike. 

THE DECAMERON

I was not sure whether to even include this one or not, as the cast seems beyond atrocious for a historical series and plus it is being done for Netflix, but you can check out first set images from their new eight episode series adaptation of the famous THE DECAMERON! In 1348, as the Black Death strikes hard in the city of Florence. A handful of nobles are invited to retreat with their servants to a grand villa in the Italian countryside and wait out the pestilence with a lavish holiday. But as social rules wear thin, what starts as a wine-soaked sex romp in the hills of Tuscany descends into an all out scramble for survival.

THE LIONS OF SICILY

Another Italy set series to expect is the adaptation of beloved historical saga THE LIONS OF SICILY over at Disney Plus. It follows the Florio family where brothers Paolo (Vinicio Marchioni) and Ignazio (Eduardo Scarpetta) are two small spice merchants who have escaped from a Calabria stuck in the past and in search of social redemption. In Sicily they invent a future, turning a small, run-down shop into a flourish business activity that young Vincenzo, with his revolutionary ideas, will transform into an economic empire. However, overwhelming Vincenzo's life and that of the entire family is the disruptive arrival of Giulia (Miriam Leone), a strong and intelligent woman who is in contrast with the rigid rules of the society of the time.

Jason Momoa in a new historical series set on Hawaii. CHIEF OF WAR, created by Momoa himself and Thomas Pa’a Sibbett, will be an eight episode mini series bringing the epic and unprecedented telling of the unification and colonization of Hawaii from an indigenous point of view. Endeavor Content and Chernin Entertainment are producing with the streamer already giving the series a full order. Momoa has never before penned anything else for television and also has the third season of See to be shot. As Deadline writes, Justin Chon is in negotiations to direct the first two episodes.

  Maghra The Ayura Mother
Maghra is played by Hera Hilmar: as an Ayura, a person with heightened hearing, she has the ability to sense truth and hear secrets. Yet, she keeps from the world the biggest secret of all, her children. She is wise, loving and kind, but will protect her family above all else! Found lost, alone and pregnant in a storm, Maghra took shelter with the Alkenny tribe. Soon she became mother of two unique twins.

Evil Queen Kane of Payan

Queen Kane, absolute monarch of the Payan Kingdom, rules from her palace, the Kanzua Dam. Played by Sylvia Hoeks, she is the ruler of the Payan tribe, and lives in one of the only places that still has electricity. In a world where sight is considered a forbidden heresy, she tasks her tribe with finding the children who are rumoured to have this mythic ability.

  Paris the Presage
Paris is played by Alfre Woodard, she is a midwife and spiritual leader to the Alkenny tribe. As their elder and an advisor she has earned the respect of her tribe. She wields her knowledge like a weapon, using her wisdom to protect the ones she loves. As a Presage, Paris can sense the emotions and intent of those around her.

Kofun Who Can See

Kofun is the composed, careful and intelligent son of Maghra. Kofun has a secret he must keep from his tribe. Kofun, played by Archie Madekwe, is Jerlamarel and Maghra’s son who can see. He is more cautious than his twin sister, Haniwa.

  Haniwa Who Can See
Proud, determined, and strong, Haniwa is the daughter of Maghra, and sister to Kofun. She is seeking to find her origin and her purpose. She sees a world that stretches beyond the familiarity of the Alkenny. She moves in silence and observes, to keep what is sacred, protected. Played by Nesta Cooper she grows up to become more rebellious than her twin brother.

Bow Lion The Shadow

Bow Lion holds the power of life and death in her hands. It’s a heavy burden for anyone to carry. Skilled with both the staff and killing rope, Bow Lion has made a name for herself amongst the fiercest of Alkenny warriors. Played by Yadira Guevara-Prip, she is known by her tribe as “The Shadow,” who befriends Jerlamarel and Maghra’s children.

  Tamacti The Witchfinder General
Tamacti Jun played by Christian Camargo is Queen Kane’s Witchfinder General. The Queen tasks him to find the children with sight. Seated at the head of the Payan army, he leads their violent quest to deliver the Queens justice to the land. There are none more loyal to the Queen than Tamacti Jun. For 20 summers he is sworn to serve her ambition!

What Did The Spy Think?

Although brave in its decision to tackle a world in which everybody is blind, for which it deserves every praise, the show's lack of multiple plots robs it of any dynamics and makes it a borderline unwatchable affair with bad costumes and uninspired sets and production design. Momoa playing the

Apple's new show does not fulfil expectations and falls flat, sadly

same character for who knows which time in his career and the deeply disgusting character of the evil queen (with an almost ridiculously atrocious performance by Sylvia Hoeks) who prays by making her subjects satisfy her orally, which only has a shock value and no other purpose, makes this flat show even worse. I cannot imagine how Apple ordered the second season of something so crucially bad.
