Their quest for truth spirals into a web of mounting suspicion and dark secrets, testing their resolve and their relationship as they confront the possibility of hidden guilt and betrayal.

Ewan McGregor is looking dashing and swell in full costume for his new historical series A GENTLEMAN IN MOSCOW from Showtime and Paramount+ based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Amor Towles. The air date for the new show has been set for March 29th on Paramount and 31st on Showtime! 

 

  He stars as Count Alexander Rostov. When, in 1922, he is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, the count is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel's doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him a doorway into a much larger world of emotional discovery.

This one has started shooting last November at Hawaii before moving in February to New Zealand where the series had been shooting till June for Apple TV Plus! Jason Momoa leads the cast of the series set in the late 18th Century when the four major kingdoms of Hawaii were constantly in a state of war. Legendary warrior Kaʻiana is pulled into battle when Seers and visions name him as the one who will fulfill an Ancient Prophecy that will bring peace to all of Hawaii.

A THOUSAND BLOWS

We also have two set photos showing Stephen Graham and Erin Doherty at the sets of A THOUSAND BLOWS mini series which follows the fortunes of Hezekiah and Alec, two best friends newly arrived from Jamaica. Fighting for survival in the violent melting pot of Victorian London's East End, they come up against Sugar Goodson, a dangerous, veteran boxer, played by Stephen Graham. I hear the shooting that started back in February was almost over when it was suspended this month due to the actors' strike. 

THE DECAMERON

I was not sure whether to even include this one or not, as the cast seems beyond atrocious for a historical series and plus it is being done for Netflix, but you can check out first set images from their new eight episode series adaptation of the famous THE DECAMERON! In 1348, as the Black Death strikes hard in the city of Florence. A handful of nobles are invited to retreat with their servants to a grand villa in the Italian countryside and wait out the pestilence with a lavish holiday. But as social rules wear thin, what starts as a wine-soaked sex romp in the hills of Tuscany descends into an all out scramble for survival.

THE LIONS OF SICILY

Another Italy set series to expect is the adaptation of beloved historical saga THE LIONS OF SICILY over at Disney Plus. It follows the Florio family where brothers Paolo (Vinicio Marchioni) and Ignazio (Eduardo Scarpetta) are two small spice merchants who have escaped from a Calabria stuck in the past and in search of social redemption. In Sicily they invent a future, turning a small, run-down shop into a flourish business activity that young Vincenzo, with his revolutionary ideas, will transform into an economic empire. However, overwhelming Vincenzo's life and that of the entire family is the disruptive arrival of Giulia (Miriam Leone), a strong and intelligent woman who is in contrast with the rigid rules of the society of the time.

Channel 4 has revealed lead cast for their new mini series THE GATHERING about the violent attack on a teenage girl in a tidal islet. Set on Merseyside and interrogating the ways in which today’s parents impose their agendas, the drama focuses on a group of teens from disparate backgrounds, each of whom could have committed the crime, along with their parents – who give equal cause for suspicion. Vinette Robinson will play pushy mother Natalie with Eva Morgan and Sadie Soverall as leads, Kelly and Jessica. With Ewan McGregor reprising his role as the Jedi Master, Hayden Christensen returns in the role of Darth Vader. Joel Edgerton and Rupert Friend are also in the cast.

We must mention that Hayden Christensen will also return as Darth Vader. Set ten years after the events of Star Wars Episode III, the story centers on Obi-Wan's time on Tatooine, watching over the young Luke Skywalker. Joel Edgerton will also return as Luke's uncle with Rupert Friend, Simone Kessell and Indira Varma also starring.

 

 

HALO TV ADAPTATION

Paramount + is bringing us a highly anticipated ten episode video game adaptation HALO This sprawling series will be set in the game universe, but will also explore new stories that follow the epic 26th-century conflict between humanity's United Nations Space Command and an alien threat known as the Covenant. The series stars Pablo Schreiber and Natascha McElhone, with Steven Spielberg producing through his Amblin TV.

 

 

ROGUE ONE'S ANDOR

Beside Obi Wan, Disney Plus  is also bringing us ANDOR, a prequel series to Star Wars: Rogue One. Centered around Diego Luna as freedom fighter Cassian Andor, this 12 episode series traces the origins of the Rebellion. Tony Gilroy will be the show runner, and you will also see Adria Arjona, Stellan Skarsgard, Robert Emms, Fiona Shaw and Poldark's Kyle Soller in the cast.

 

 

NEW STAR TREK SERIES: STRANGE NEW WORLDS

Paramount + is bringing us a prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series with the story taking the crew to a new planet every week like we had in the good old Star Trek series with the episodic approach. It will follow Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) at the helm of the U.S.S. Enterprise which he was in charge of before Kirk! He has the help of his first officer Number One (Rebecca Romijn) and Science Officer Spock (Ethan Peck)! The series arrives May 2nd!

 

AMAZON'S THE PERIPHERAL

Beside Lord of the Rings, Amazon is also preparing sf series THE PERIPHERAL based on a book by William Gibson. Starring Jack Reynor, JJ Feild and Chloe Moretz it has the story set in the future when technology has subtly altered society, and follows a woman who discovers a secret connection to an alternate reality as well as a dark future of her own. Since it comes from Westworld producers, you can expect it to be visually ambitious.
