A few years ago it became a smash hit for Netflix and now we are getting  a sequel TROLL II which is ready to hit the streamer December 1st! In the first film from 2022, deep in the Dovre mountain, something gigantic woke up after a thousand years in captivity - a creature that destroyed everything in its path quickly approaching Oslo. In the second film coming again from Norway, we will again meet Nora (Ine Marie Wilmann), Andreas (Kim Falck) and Captain Kris (Mads Sjogard Pettersen) who leap back into action when a dangerous new troll awakes - and this time they'll need more help to take it down. If you don't know what to binge this weekend, available on Prime Video as of January 24th is Norwegian four episode snow set crime series BLINDSPAR. During a heavy snowstorm, a train travelling from Stockholm to Narvik collides with an avalanche. All passengers must take shelter in an old, isolated hotel in the mountains nearby. Among them is the sharp and dark-minded police officer, Hanne Wilhelmsen (Ida Engvoll) and when mysterious murders start taking place at the hotel, despite being temporarily suspended from the police, Hanne begins to investigate. Pål Sverre Hagen also stars next to Edvard Olsson.

A trailer is here for Canadian and Norwegian series SO LONG, MARIANNE that tells the legendary love story of Canadian singer and poet Leonard Cohen (Alex Wolff), and his muse Marianne Ihlen (Thea Sofie Loch Næss) who inspired the titular song. It’s an intimate tale of two lonely people falling in love during a period of their life when they are trying to figure out who they are and their place in the world, while one is becoming one of the most famous singers of all time. Anna Torv, Noah Taylor and Peter Stormare also star. Ben Lloyd Hughes plays Allen Ginsberg.  It starts on ARD in Germany September 22nd and then on Canadian streamer Crave September 27th and will also be on ITVX in UK.

 

THEIR STORY 

 crosses the world, travelling from Norway to Greece, New York and Montreal, with the majority of the series filmed on the picturesque Greek island of Hydra where they lived during the 1960s. There, they joined legendary Australian novelists Charmian Clift and her husband George Johnston, the matriarch and patriarch of a bohemian group of writers, artists, poets, and outcasts who were exploring a new world of free love, drugs, and artistic freedom, but also experiencing the rivalries and jealousy that accompanied their intense, interwoven lives.

There are two new WW2 set series that we can expect on Netflix during April and I will present you both this month, starting with WAR SAILOR which will sail onto the streamer April 5th. Norway's representative in the Oscars race this year has been turned into a limited three episode series with

some of the footage which hasn't been seen in the movie itself. It is based on true stories of Norwegian merchant sailors and their families during and after World War II!

 

  THE STORY Alfred Garnes (Kristoffer Joner) is a working-class sailor, who has recently become the father of a third child. He and his childhood friend Sigbjørn Kvalen (Pal Sverre Hagen) are working on a merchant ship in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean when World War II breaks out. They are unarmed civilians on the front lines of a war they never asked to join. The two men struggle for survival in a spiral of violence and death, where at any moment German submarines may attack their valuable vessels. The war sailors have one goal: to survive and to return home. Meanwhile, Alfred's wife Cecilia (Ine Marie Wilmann) struggles through the war alone in Bergen, raising three children on her own, not knowing whether she will ever see Alfred again. When British aircrafts attempt to bomb the German submarine bunker in Bergen, they instead hit the primary school at Laksevåg and civilian homes at Nøstet, resulting in hundreds of civilian deaths. When the news reaches Alfred and Sigbjorn in Canada, they wonder if they have anything left at home to return to.

Troll arrives this December to Netflix

I know Halloween is over but if you are still in the mood for something scary Netflix has just a thing for you: fantasy horror adventure TROLL will be streaming from December 1st, directed and written by Roar Uthaug from Norway. Deep inside the mountain of Dovre, Norway, something gigantic awakens after being trapped for a thousand years. Destroying everything in its path, the creature is fast approaching the capital of Norway, with city-dweller struggling to stop something they thought existed only in Norwegian folklore. When an explosion in the Norwegian mountains awakens an ancient troll, officials appoint a fearless palaeontologist to stop it from wreaking deadly havoc. The film premiered at Christmas in Norway

Svensson and stars our favourite of their stars Jakob Oftebro. During World War II, millions of Jews from all over Europe are deported and killed in German concentration camps. When the German troops invade Norway, the Norwegian Jews feel safe and protected. But anti Semitism knows no borders and as the war escalates in Europe, the situation changes drastically. Suddenly, their radios are taken away; their passports are stamped with a big J and one day, all the men men over the age of 15 are arrested and taken to prisons camps. Many of the women left behind are too frightened to escape and are desperately waiting for their husbands and sons to come back home.

The film is available in USA, UK and other countries

On November 26, 1942, hundreds of Jews are picked up by the police in the middle of the night and are transported to the dock in Oslo. Unknowing and frightened men, women, children, sick and old are forced on board the awaiting German cargo ship "SS DONAU". The ship leaves with 532 Norwegian Jews onboard; 302 men, 188 women and 42 children. The end station is Auschwitz. BETRAYED is based on the true story about the Braude family. An ordinary Norwegian family whose fate is sealed by the fact that they are Jews.
