Ballygar, Ireland, 1968: a boisterous hard-knocks community in outer Dublin that marches to its own beat, frenzied, fast and loose, and yet also deeply soulful; rooted in traditions of loyalty, faith and togetherness. And the opportunity to rise above one’s daily struggles is frankly a pipe dream, especially for women. There’s just one dream for the women of Ballygar to taste freedom and escape the gauntlet of domestic life: to win a pilgrimage to the sacred French town of Lourdes. With a little benevolent interference from their local priest, close friends Lily, Eileen, and Dolly get their ticket  of a lifetime. Having never left Dublin, let alone Ireland, the journey provides our heroines the chance to let their hair down, celebrate life and some independence. It's also a chance to reflect on their own lives, with each of the women in search of their own personal miracles. But when they are joined by Chrissie, recently returned from a decades-long exile in the USA, deep wounds from the past are re-opened, and bitter truths exposed. As they confront one another and embrace their past, these women realise that the miracle they have all been looking for is right in front of them. Your first look image today comes from movie drama THE MIRACLE CLUB with Maggie Smith and Laura Linney. Also starring Kathy Bates and Stephen Rea, it follows four Dublin women who come together on a pilgrimage to the holy city of Lourdes in France, where they discover the solidarity in their friendship and unveil their own personal miracles. This British Irish co-production is directed by Thaddeus O'Sullivan.

Speaking of British Irish productions, here is another one for you today: a trailer for GOD'S CREATURES thriller which is out September 30th in selected cinemas with Emily Watson, Paul Mescal and Aisling Franciosi in the lead roles.

  In a windswept fishing village, a mother is torn between protecting her beloved son and her own sense of right and wrong. A lie she tells for him rips apart their family and close-knit community in this tense, sweepingly emotional epic. Saela Davis, whose debut behind the helm this film is, and Anna Rose Holmer, who has just one other movie behind her, directed the film together.

MR MALCOLM'S LIST EPIC DRAMA

Sam Heughan has joined the period set drama

Well, this will certainly be a colourblind period set movie: a few months ago I told you that Freida Pinto and Oliver Jackson Cohen will lead Regency era costume drama MR MALCOLM'S LIST and now they are being joined by Sam Heughan and Constance Wu. The novel by Suzanne Allain, on which the script is based, will be out next month globally. As 'Deadline' reports, Sope Dirisu will play the titular character of Mr Malcolm, London’s most eligible bachelor. When Julia (Constance Wu) is jilted by him after she failed to meet one of the items on his list of requirements for a bride, she enlists her friend Selina (Freida Pinto) to help her take revenge. Emma Holly Jones is directing and preparing a presentation for the buyers at Cannes virtual market later this month.

O’Sullivan is directing the movie which will have a 2022 release. It will also be offered to buyers at Cannes. The movie was first planned back in 2004 under Pushers Needed title. A few weeks ago I told you that Embankment will also be offering EMILY movie on Emily Bronte for sales this month.
