The first season aired at the beginning of January 2023, so it has been almost two years since then, but the second season of the deeply suspense- ful apoca- lyptic series THE RIG is now returning January 2nd, 2025 and Prime Video has sent us the new posters after the recent first trailer which you can see below the post! Iain Glenn, Martin Compston, Emily Hampshire and Owen Teale all return to the cast alongside newcomers Ross Anderson, Phil McKee, Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, Johannes Roaldsen Fürst and Alice Krige (The Borg queen from Star Trek series). As you remember, the series followed workers on an isolated North Sea oil rig, who experience a disruption to their communications as a mysterious fog begins to surround them. And then something dangerous starts appearing from the very depths of the ocean! Is Mother Nature angry, is ruined climate fighting back or are some ancient alien creatures waking up hungry and angry after centuries of sleep?

 

WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE NEW SEASON

 Following the devastating tsunami that destroyed the Kinloch Bravo, season two sees the surviving crew airlifted by helicopters to a new secret offshore facility called the Stac, nestled deep in the extraordinary and deadly landscapes of the Arctic Circle. Here, the trapped crew must deal with the emotional and physical fallout of the devastating tsunami that destroyed the Bravo, and contend with swirling conspiracies, corporate conflicts, and new threats from the dark depths of the world’s ocean. The six part series OUTRAGEOUS, their first ever, will depict the British socialite sisters, whose antics in the 1930s made their family one of the most well known in the UK. Several infamously supported fascism and the Nazis, though two became staunch opponents of the ideology. Two became well known authors. It will be a story of family betrayals, public scandal, political extremism, personal heartache and even imprisonment.

  THE STORY OF THE RIG
sees the crew of the Kinloch Bravo oil rig stationed off the Scottish coast in the dangerous waters of the North Sea. When they are due to be collected and  return to the mainland, a mysterious and all-enveloping fog rolls through. The rig is hit by massive tremors, and they find themselves cut off from all communication with the shore and the outside world. As the crew endeavour to discover what’s driving this unknown force, a major accident forces them to ask questions about who they can really trust. Bonds are broken, allegiances formed and generational fault lines are exposed. The crew of the Bravo will be driven to the limits of both their loyalties and their endurance leading to a confrontation with forces beyond their imagination.

Taking viewers from modern Iceland to America and Nazi Germany at the end of World War II, it follows young Icelandic lawyer Kristin, who gets drawn into the vortex of an international conspiracy when she receives grainy footage of an old airplane wreck, recently revealed by the melting of one of Iceland’s largest glaciers. The old German World War II plane not only brings ruthless criminals onto the scene, but also CIA vice director William Carr, who had already been secretly trying to remove the wreck for a long time. Kristin places herself in great danger, refusing to rest until the key has been discovered that will solve the riddle of Operation Napoleon!
