A full trailer has been released for a three part small screen adaptation of Rumer Godden's novel BLACK NARCISSUS with Gemma Arterton
Black Narcissus starts November on FX
which will air on FX November 23rd and then will also be available next day on Hulu! Over at BBC it will air in December. The atmospheric trailer offers a much better look on the new epic drama and its visual splendour.
 
     BLACK NARCISSUS is set in Mopu, Himalayas, in 1934 at a remote clifftop palace once known as the ‘House of Women’, the location holds many dark secrets. When the young nuns of St. Faith attempt to establish a mission there, its haunting mysteries awaken forbidden desires that seem destined to repeat a terrible tragedy. Although latest adaptation of Emma wasn't an overly successful affair (but it did have brilliant visuals), a new Jane Austen movie is in works! As Hollywood Reporter informs, Sarah Snook (who was nominated for an Emmy for her role in Succession TV series and we watched her in Kate Winslet's amazing Australian movie Dressmaker) will lead new movie version of her final novel PERSUASION
To be directed by Mahalia Belo, it is a romance of second chances, telling the story of Anne Elliot who, many years after refusing the proposal of young naval officer Frederick Wentworth, finds herself navigating the waters of English society when Wentworth returns from war a wealthy and decorated captain. As Anne ponders missed opportunities, she must consider her own regrets and unwavering, possibly unrequited love. Are you excited about the new adaptation? The lead is certainly a talented actress and a gorgeous woman.

Among the projects that will be offered to buyers at Cannes virtual market this month is WW2 story BURIAL which will have Tom Felton, Ian Hart and Diana Rigg in the cast alongside Niamh Algar and Tom Glynn Carney.  Set in the last days of war it tells the fictional story of a small band of Russian soldiers led by intelligence officer Brana Vasilyeva (Niamh Algar), who are tasked with trafficking Hitler’s discovered remains back to Stalin in Moscow. Along the way, the unit is attacked by murderous German ‘Wehrwolf’ partisans and picked off one by one. Vasilyeva and her fellow survivors must make a last stand to ensure their ‘cargo’ doesn’t fall into the hands of their attackers and be buried forever to hide the truth.

Dressed for War will be based on Julie Summers' book
Speaking of Second World War, Deadline reports today that Gaumont UK has bought movie rights on  historian Julie Summers’ biography on wartime Vogue editor Audrey Withers, titled DRESSED FOR WAR: The Story of Audrey Withers, Vogue Editor Extraordinaire From The Blitz To The Swinging Sixties. Vogue itself will be included in the work on this sweeping story about how Withers helped pave the way for the sexual revolution of the 1960s! The film itself will be set in 1940s London and will follow audrey Withers as she aims to transform an upper-class fashion journal into an essential lifeline for women of all backgrounds.

We waited for the cast to be announced for almost two years now, but now BBC One has revealed the stars for its TV series adaptation of famous BLACK NARCISSUS classic and we quite love it. Alessandro Nivola and Gemma Arterton will headline the three part TV series which will also air on FX based on Rumer Godden's classic novel. The cast also has Aisling Franciosi as Sister Ruth, Diana Rigg as Mother Dorothea, Jim Broadbent as Father Roberts, Gina McKee as Sister Adela, Rosie Cavaliero as Sister Briony,  Patsy Ferran as Sister Blanche, Karen Bryson as Sister Philippa, and Dipika Kunwar as Kanchi.

BLACK NARCISSUS FOLLOWS
Sister Clodagh (Gemma Arterton), the leader of the nuns of St Faiths, who travel to Nepal to set up a branch of their order in the remote palace of Mopu. In the unfettered sensuality of the so-called House of Women, Sister Clodagh finds herself increasingly attracted to a handsome and damaged land agent, Mr Dean (Alessandro Nivola). He is a dissolute English colonial and First World War veteran whose combative relationship with the head sister of the order awakens

'VICTORIA' EPIC SERIES
ALL BOW FOR THE 2ND SEASON
The royal pair will visit France and Germany
Are you ready, royal subjects? Her Royal Majesty Queen VICTORIA returns to reign the small screens in United Kingdom on ITV this Sunday, August 27th, earlier than ever, with eight new episodes of the second season which will be topped later on in December with a two hour Christmas special for royal festive delights. Viewers in United States will start watching the second season later next year in January on Masterpiece PBS.

QUEEN'S POSTNATAL DEPRESSION
Resuming one month after the first series ended with the queen giving birth to her first child (she had more than a dozen of them which is strange given that history has marked her as a non motherly and even cruel matriarch
Victoria won't find motherhood easy in the second season
 who never liked children nor babies), the new season establishes VICTORIA as a working mother, learning to balance her responsibilities as both parent
Victoria and Albert will discover a sanctuary in the Isle of Wight
and Queen. However, Prince Albert is still struggling to find a role for himself alongside his powerful wife as she returns to her duties, intent on proving that she can be both a mother and dutiful Queen.

Tom Bateman is Captain Rawdon Crawley
Thackeray's classic novel VANITY FAIR and that Olivia Cooke will take the lead role of Becky Sharp, a girl from the 19th century who attempts to claw her way out of poverty and scale the heights of English Society, and now Da Vinci's Demon's star Tom Bateman has been cast as Rawdon Crawley in the series that will also air on Amazon. He and his  brother are at risk of losing their family and fortune through their passion and desire to be with Becky Sharp! The seven part series is set in the background of Napoleonic wars in Europe. Bateman already work with ITV on Jekyll and Hyde series which flopped massively. He also appears in Kenneth Branagh's Murder on the Orient Express.

We've had a really epic post yesterday on Russian Grand Duchess Sophia and today, here's another Duchess for you: as you know the production on the second season of the super popular ITV historical series VICTORIA on the 19th century monarch is fully on and now they have a new cast addition. Legendary Diana Rigg will play the very much outspoken Duchess of Buccleuch, the young Queen Victoria's new Mistress of the Robes! With Jenna Coleman again as the queen, Tom Hughes as prince Albert and brilliant David Oakes as prince Ernest, the eight episode second season (plus a two hour Christmas special) will start about a month after the queen gives birth to her first child.

'THREE DARK CROWNS
GETS MOVIE ADAPTATION
Meanwhile, a new big screen book adaptation coming our way: as 'Deadline' reports Fox has bought the movie rights on Kendare Blake's THREE DARK CROWNS YA fantasy saga and has set Shawn Levy to produce it. The second book One Dark Throne is out this Autumn and two more books are planned in upcoming years. Three Dark Crowns is the first of four planned volumes, a fantasy series about magically gifted triplet queens who must use their powers against each other in a battle to ascend the throne.Levy's production company has worked both on Oscar nominated Arrival this year and Stranger Things Netflix hit series.
