GEMMA ARTERTON TO LEAD
FUNNY GIRL SERIES AT SKY
It will be a period set comedy TV series adaptation of Nick Hornby's novel FUNNY GIRL with Gemma Arterton cast as Barbara Parker, a young woman from Blackpool finding her comic voice in the world of the
1960s sitcom. It’s the height of the swinging 60s and Barbara Parker has just been crowned Miss Blackpool – but there’s got to be more to life than being a beauty queen in a seaside town, right? She wants to be… someone.
The bright lights of London are calling, and our determined hero sets off to find out who that someone is. The London she encounters is not as quite as swinging as the one she’d read about and seen on TV. However, after a series of setbacks Barbara finds herself in unfamiliar territory – an audition for a TV comedy show. Barbara’s uncompromising northern wit proves to be the X factor that the show has been missing. She gets the part and becomes part of a ground breaking new sitcom which will have an impact on British comedy for decades to come. Clare-Hope Ashitey, Arsher Ali and Alexa Davies also star.

FUNNY GIRL seems like a funny one.
ReplyDeleteI hope she will be funny as I haven't noticed Gemma has a comedy talent so far.
DeleteI hope it is better than the overrated"Mrs. Maisel"
ReplyDeleteOh, I found Mrs. Maisel full episodes on YouTube back when it started and sat down to watch it and could get into it longer than about ten minutes, it was so crazy boring, it is beyond me how it got so many awards. But then again I don't get awards today at all. When you watch some of the Oscar ceremony intros at YouTube and see all the real stars from about ten to twenty years ago you realize how ridiculous Hollywood is today. Just try to watch Whoopie Goldberg's intro back when she was the host and notice all the stars in the crowd, back when they really were stars and real films got the Oscars.
Delete2021 was the first year I didn’t watch the Oscars, but then I don’t watch the Emmys or the Baftas. After all, what’s their to praise or give awards too? Mrs. Maisel is a compound of stereotypes (Some rather offensive) with a heroine that has everything going for her and always lands on her four feet. To break into the Borscht Circuit as a woman comedian was never that easy. That is what makes the series so boring. Even comedy needs conflict. I hate Rachel Brosnahan, she looks dopey, and on top of all she’s not funny
DeleteI stopped about a decade ago, methinks.
DeleteI've noticed that Brosnahan is now getting movie roles as well, they always pick out the worst of the mediocre ones, it seems. The future of Hollywood will be either the bland ones or the kids of the nepotistic Hollywood stars. Sean Penn's and Eathan Hawke's spawn is getting all possible roles and now the latest one is Bill Pullman's son getting some major role as well... colour me disgusted.
I don't think I've seen Gemma Arterton in anything, but her freckles are so damn cute.
ReplyDeleteGerminal looks good, from that short clip. Maybe we'll get a longer one soon.
She was the princess in Prince of Persia with Gyllenhaal. She stars in British films, she is nice and passable as an actress.
DeleteI didn't watch that one. I'll have to go look up some of her British film work and check her out.
DeleteShe had one with Sam Claflin which has the worst ending the world has ever seen LOL
DeleteIsn't that the theme of life? Everything looks so glamorous until you're actually in it.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, but we still prefer glamour to dreariness.
