HOTEL EUROPA
HISTORICAL MINI SERIES
Staying in the international waters, today I'm presenting you with a period set mini series from Germany
HOTEL EUROPA (Das Weiße Haus am Rhein or The White House on the Rhine) which will air sometime later this year on German
ARD produced by our fave
Beta Film, directed by
|
The story of the two part series is based on true events
|
Thorsten M. Schmidt and starring
Jonathan Berlin, Benjamin Sadler and Katharina Schüttler.
Set between WWI and WWII, the predictably sumptuous series portrays down the years the dreams, foibles and destinies of members of the Dreesen hotelier dynasty, owners of the Rheinhotel Dreesen, built on the very banks of the Rhine, and a popular place of stay for celebrities
|
International
politicians and rulers, artists, philosophers and world stars were
almost magically attracted and accommodated by the hotel. |
from many walks of life. It is the unbelievable and dramatic story of an entire continent, portrayed through the personal fates of the Dreesen family. In this unique hotel, where Charlie Chaplin and Adolf Hitler were sleeping wall to wall, you can experience the incredible history of Europe with all its ups and downs.
This sounds pretty good. Charlie Chaplin and Adolf Hitler sleeping wall to wall? Well, this is a story I've never heard before! On a side note, I'm in love with the pale pink dress shown in the first picture above. :)
ReplyDeleteIt was the cool spot for the celebrities of that time LOL Berlin was, for example, the absolute party centre of the world ahead of the WW2, all of the artists were there, it was the cradle if liberal thought, music, cabaret, you name it.
DeleteWow. Sounds like an interesting snapshot into little known history.
ReplyDeleteShould be glitzy and exciting.
DeleteSounds interesting Dez?
ReplyDeleteGerman series were really fun last year, hope they will be this one as well.
DeleteImagine the stories the hotel walls could tell if they could talk!
ReplyDeleteThey probably ooze with betrayal, sex and conspiracy.
DeleteNot a fan of German TV series..and it's even worse with ARD production. But I am willing to give this one a chance again.
ReplyDeleteOy, I do occasionally love me German telly, I grew up with Viva and I'm still sad it was cancelled. I love the charming kitsch of German productions LOL I sometimes even watch that summer show that they shoot at the pools and air in the summer afternoons with forgotten stars singing, you can still find it on YouTube. I once even watched ten episodes of that period set telenovella with Yvonne Caterfeld even though it was trashy. Sometimes I find your programmes deeply relaxing. And I generally love Germany, the discipline, the hardworking rule obeying life... And Germans are, of course, hot as hell :) I've always wanted to marry Olly P. And still would...
DeleteLavish again, huh? 😛
ReplyDeleteBtw, thought ARD should've been ARE in the blog post title 😂 I'm obviously not German 😏
Well, ya haven't seen a trailer yet, geez. ARD is in short - Arbeitsgemeinschaft der öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunkanstalten der Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Now lemme hear you say that quickly LOL It's Germany's national broadcaster.
